Part 2 of S7 KOs. Tbh, it's mostly just curiosity on my part. I do think these are the next closest though after part 1. I also considered Danica vs Katriz but I thought Danica was the clear winner and it'd be lopsided in her favour..

Jean vs Menlik

Anita vs Craig

Chris vs Blessing

1. Jean Kelly was good but I could hear her breathe into the mic after every few phrases and it was off putting.. also, Menlik sounded more powerful and was more consistent throughout. He should have won imo.

2. Anita was good, but Craig's performance is one of the most impressive Country KOs on the show. Gotta give it to him.

3. This one was the hardest for me. In general I prefer Chris, but in this specific instance I think Blessing's performance flowed more smoothly, and he actually captured the meaning of the song imo.

Jean vs Menlik

Menlik was good but this is no contest for me. I heard some rumor that Gwen didn't like Jean very much I wonder if that's why she was so lukewarm towards that performance. I remember Blake chose Menlik too but that's probably just because he didn't know Jean's song lol

Anita vs Craig

Craig's song is overdone on the show imo but also I hate Rude so... lol. Her performance had the stage presence and vocals to make it work though. I just think Craig was more consistent and powerful.

Chris vs Blessing

Yeah, I'll admit this wasn't Chris' best. Doing that whole line in falsetto was... a choice, I think maybe the whole song was a wrong choice tbh. I actually love YBIAW even though it's hated (or maybe people just hate John Mayer which is fair lol). He had some cool vocal moments in there but overall I didn't like the arrangement. So I guess I'd go for Chris by a little.

Could you please do Alessandra vs Mia in part 3?

I was considering adding them on this part.

I'm not sure if there will be a part 3, but if it happens they'd probably be next.

First time watching all of these.

1. I… did not like Jean’s performance at all. It felt very overacted and some parts were kinda off-putting to my eard. Menlik was nothing spectacular but I preferred him.

2. Best pair of KOs in this batch, both couldn’t have done any better than they did. The two are so different genre-wise that it’s kinda hard to grade them objectively, so it just comes down to preference. I think I’d pick Anita by a hair.

3. Hmm wasn’t too huge on either but Chris’ vocals were really smooth so I’m leaning towards him.

Jean (C-) vs. Menlik (D+) - Honestly it almost seems like a cruel joke that people say Jean’s “Chandelier” is the best version on the show. I wasn’t a fan of it; notes were clipped and the chorus wasn’t very impactful. I was thoroughly bored by Menlik’s performance. This was a great selection for this poll because I thought both were equally bad. Extremely slight preference to Jean, but don’t get me wrong! I still think neither should’ve moved on.

Anita (B) vs. Craig (A+) - There was nothing really wrong with Anita’s performance but I didn’t find it super compelling. It was still a strong showing though. Wow! Craig really surprised me here. A strong vocal showing on a song I enjoy, and that pause at the end was really well-done, he waited longer than I expected, making me lean into the performance more. Strong preference to Craig but both deserved to move on, and results were preferable as-is because of the coach pairings.

Chris (C) vs. Blessing (B+) - Chris’ falsetto was really nice but otherwise this performance lacked the oomph I wanted from it. His belts / chest voice don’t have a strong impact or weight to them and his expression seemed pained throughout the beginning. I feel like he’s better suited for pop than run-heavy r&b. I didn’t love Blessing’s ad-libs much and I wish he got at least one biiiig note in there but otherwise I don’t think there’s anything for me to complain about here. This was a solid performance. Strong preference to Blessing here, and I only think Chris should’ve moved on if there were few strong steal options.

i’m curious, what did u agree and disagree with?

Maybe heavily disagree was slightly hyperbolic but Menlik with a D+ is awfully low.

I can get if you don't like reggae but you gave Anitta a B which imo was the worse reggae performance of the two.. I thought his belts were more powerful, more full sounding and resonant than Jean's. Not a good thing considering Jean is singing frickin Sia. Only knock on his performance vocally is enunciation which can be partly attributed to genre.

I can see the "boring" critique as it's not really a vocally dynamic performance but reggae is a breath of fresh air on this show and I thought he delivered a really solid vocal. I reserve D+ for pitchy messes lol. I'd give him around a B+

Last thing i'll say about it is you brought out your inner Charlie with the sudden and unnecessary harsh rating loll.. ofc, imo.

You basically summed up my thoughts on everything else though.

yeah, i can definitely see why that rating would be off-putting lol. his performance really didn't work for me, and i think it's partially specific to him because i recall not really loving "maneater." i do think it is kinda a reggae thing though, it's just that anita's vocals within reggae seem to fit my liking more.

i think i haven't really decided whether i want the grades to try to be objective or subjective bc there are times (like w/ Ryan Quinn (?)) where I'll rate him lower than I want to because objectively there were issues, but here I graded on how much I liked it. idk lol

Ah fair enough. I think all of us here do a mixture based on preference and objective things so it's no biggie.

1. Great job by both but Craig for me. I hate Anita´s song choice lol. Also, this was the moment Craig stepped out of the JDC shadow.

2. I like Menlik´s tone (and Maneater was a hoot), but he didn´t particularly do anything interesting with the song here, I´d give it to Jean even if I´m not a fan of her tone, I think she did better vocally.

3. Voted Chris on accident, but I´m gonna say Blessing took this one for me. The jazzy arrangement fit the song well, and he brought a lot of good grows into his phrasing that I liked. Chris was the smarter choice, and eventually he came alive in the lives, but this performance was a bit boring.

1. Craig. Anita’s performance was

good, but Craig’s performance was excellent, and he had a breakout moment here.

2. Jean. It wasn’t as good as I remembered (didn’t help that Jordan was only 2 seasons later), but I felt that she took more liberties than Menlik, and that’s what I would reward in Knockouts. Wouldn’t really be opposed to Menlik getting stolen though
3. Chris. It definitely wasn’t his best performance but I generally prefer him over Blessing, and picking him ended up being worth it in the long run
