Smartest Song Choices Ever

Occasions that came to my mind:

  • Joshua Davis' "Fields of Gold": he bounced back from the bottom 3 to getting the iTunes bonus that week which regained him Minivan's attention and enough for him to snatch that PV in the Semifinals of season 8 (back when the top 5 was still the Semifinals, good days). I would say without that song he would have been eliminated that week and team Adam would have been wiped out.
  • The Swon Brothers' 'Danny's Song": Minivan bait obviously. I was shocked to see they advanced over Amber that season (I was too naive at that time to know what the show's main demo was)
  • Jershika's "Break Every Chain", because, well... everybody knows it helps you advance without a doubt, and she used it at the most important time.

Can't think of anything else.

  • Bryce Leatherwood's "If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away." I legitimately think that song propelled him into 'winner' territory when he wasn't fully there before. Fit squarely into his vocal range, and won people over emotionally. (I'd make a similar argument for "Don't Close Your Eyes," but I think IHWSFA was a brilliant choice on a different level.)
  • Chris Blue's "Love on the Brain." I still remember how impressive it was for him to use all that expertly-done falsetto live, to demonstrate his massive range.
  • Kyla Jade's "Let It Be." Picking a song that the fanbase's demographics would instantly recognize, while putting her own gospel spin on it, was such a brilliant choice.
  • Craig Wayne Boyd's "The Old Rugged Cross." Yet another one that propelled a singer into 'winner' territory when it may have felt more uncertain before. Picking an old religious hymn and showing a significantly softer side that contrasted the country-rock-outlaw image his other song choices gave him... I mean, I don't know if he could've beaten Matt McAndrew without this one.

I love topics like this! That's all I can think of for now, but I'd love to add more as my memory brings them back to me.

Do you mean smart in terms of how they fit the singer, or smart in terms of demo appeal? Your example could go either way lol.

Anyway from this season, I'd say a really good fit was Omar's In the Name of Love.

Umm... both I guess?

ChloeMK - “Landslide” and “Total Eclipse Of The Heart”

Brynn Cartelli - “Here Comes Goodbye”

Chevel Shepherd - “Travelin’ Soldier”

Alisan Porter - “Let Him Fly” (she needed to show she could have vocal restraint)

Jordan Smith - “Somebody To Love”

Cassadee Pope - “Over You”

Marybeth Byrd - “Burning House” (if she continued like this, she had a shot at winning)

You just won this thread IMO.  I agree, all of these were smart song choices in one way or another.
