Brian Tyree Henry

330px-Brian_Tyree_Henry_by_Gage_Skidmore

I have nomnated Brian Tyree Henry before, so it makes sense for me to cut him now. Brian is best known for his role as Alfred "Paper Boi" Miles in Atlanta (from 2016–2022), which I've heard of but have not seen. For this role, he received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He is also known for his performances in Boardwalk Empire, How to Get Away with Murder, and This Is Us, but I'm surprised he'd be considered known for that when he was only in one episode. And I have not watched enough of This is Us to remember him in it. His other work includes Broadway work and roles in Widows, Spider-Man 2: Into the Verse and If Beale Streets Could Talk. All in all he's an easy cut for me to make now.

Christina Applegate

330px-Christina_Applegate_2014_Comic_Con

First thing that comes to mind when I think of Christian Applegate is her lead role in Dead of Me, which I haven't seen a lot of yet but have heard good things about. Aside from that, shes mostly a sitcom actress, first gaining recognition as a child actress starring as Kelly Bundy in the Fox sitcom Married... with Children (1987–1997). She erned aditional recognition for her roles in Jesse and Friends, and being in the latter makes this cut easier to justify if I'm being honest. :giggle: She earned a Tony Award nomination for her work in the musical Sweet Charity. As for her movie work, it includes Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (1991), The Big Hit (1998), The Sweetest Thing (2002), Grand Theft Parsons (2003), and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), among others. Not someone I have any attachment to so out she goes.

Alan Rickman

GQ-Jul-1992-Alan-Rickman-hp-GQ-13Jan16_Gerald_Forster_b.jpg

Similar to Imelda, another actor who I love in the Harry Potter movies, but don't know all too well outside of them. Alan Rickman is obviously iconic for his role as Severus Snape in all eight movies. He is consistently great in them, specifically in the three or so. If you asked me to rank my favorite performances in the Harry Potter movies, Rickman and Staunton would be at the top of the list. But outside of Harry Potter? Oof I just don't know all that well. Of course I know him in Die Hard and Love Actually. He received four BAFTA nominations for his performances in Truly, Madly, Deeply, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Sense and Sensibility, and Michael Collins. I think I've seen Sense and Sensibility but don't remember it all that well. Unfortunately we lost Alan Rickman to pancreatic cancer in 2016 at only 69 years old. He is obviously a great actor, but one I'm unfamiliar with outside of the Harry Potter series.

Sam Rockwell

sam-rockwell-today-jm-main-220507-e6bdfd.jpg

Sam Rockwell is good! He's not someone I generally seek out in a movie, but he's usually a fun supporting presence. He's been working pretty consistently since the 90's, but has really broken out in a mainstream way in the last five years or so. He got his start in some Indie movies and maybe being a smaller part of a larger ensemble in some more mainstream hits. Some of his earlier work I'm more familiar with include The Green Mile, Galaxy Quest, Matchstick Men, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Frost/Nixon, and The Way, Way Back. He broke through in a more mainstream way when he won an Oscar for his performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. I didn't really like his character or the movie, but his acting was strong. Since then he's been all over the place. Starring in big movies such as Vice, Jojo Rabbit, and Richard Jewell and on tv in Fosse/Verdon which earned him a well deserved Emmy nomination (though Michelle Williams stole the show). Like I said I like Sam Rockwell, but I'm just not a huge fan or anything.

Home Alone Smile GIF by filmeditor

Joe Pesci is an actor that I am mainly familiar with due to his role in the Home Alone series, but his status as an actor goes way beyond Home Alone. He has appeared in many films where he has praise for his role in movies such as Ragin Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, and The Irishman - I've heard of all of these movies but I've never really seen any of them; He actually won an Oscar for Goodfellas, and nominated in Raging Bull and The Irishman.   But most of you may also know him for My Cousin Vinny and Lethal Weapon franchises.  And apparently, he retired in 1999 but he has since came back since then, including a role in The Irishman. Overall, he's a good actor but not one that I am particularly attached to, and it's only getting harder from now on.

Ben Stiller

440px-Ben_Stiller_May_2019.jpg

Ben Stiller has appeared in a total of 87 movies. I've obviously watched a lot of his movies and while some of them i've enjoyed, most of them are terrible. I think There's something about Mary was the first film I saw from him and I remember it was hilarious during that time, but I must have been like 10 at the moment so who knows how that has aged. Meet the Parents, The Royal Tenenbaums, Along Came Polly, Madagascar, Tenacious D, Night at the Museum, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Submarine and Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted are the other films I've watched from him. The Royal Tenenbaums is by far my fvaroite from his filmography but there are also many films that I want to watch when I get the time like The Meyerowitz Stories and While We're Young. He was nominated for the Razzies for his performance on Along Came Polly, Anchorman, Dodgeball, Starsky & Hutch, Envy and Zoolander 2.

Anjelica Huston

440px-Anjelica_Huston_March_21,_2014_(cropped).jpg

Anjelica Huston has an extensive career that has spawned over 50 years. She debuted on 1969 with the film A Walk with Love and Death but her breakthrough came with the 1985 film Prizzi's Honor for which she received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. She had further recognition with the films Enemies, A Love Story, The Grifters, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Manhattan Murder Mystery, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Darjeeling Limited, Daddy Day Care, 50/50 and John Wick 3. I believe her most famous roles were Morticia on both The Addams Family movies and The Witches. The Witches is a film that I loved deeply when I was a kid and found it quite scary during my childhood. She has also done television and starred in shows like Smash and Transparent. I appreciate Anjelica's career and the fact that she's done a lot of stuff that I've enjoyed but ultimately I don't feel that connected to her as I do to some of the other actors in this group.

Evan Peters

american horror story GIF

Evan did a great job in AHS Murder House even though his character was absolute trash and some fans want to pretend he wasn't. Evan's other appearances in AHS (that I've seen) don't always have the most range imo but he gets the job done and is entertaining enough. I enjoyed him in X-Men of course, not just because I love X-Men but because his scenes were absolute show-stopping pure entertainment. But that was more to do with the graphics and directing etc. His cameo in WandaVision was also fun and camp. His latest role.. I'm still majorly on the fence about the whole project. I heard he was great, but to what end? At what cost? Idk I need to simmer on it more and thankfully my watch list is a mile long at this point, seriously I can't wait to finally retire in 2070 and catch up on TV shows from 2018.

Jeremy Strong

Jeremy Strong Reaction GIF by SuccessionHBO

A Succession guy! Another show on my poor sad watchlist. Sorry bud. I have HBO so I'm partway there I guess. He got an Emmy and a Golden Globe for that show. He looks kinda familiar but I don't really know him from any particular role. Let's check what stuff he did before Succession. Lincoln, Selma, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Zero Dark Thirty, and so on. Oh, and The Big Short! That ensemble won an award, and so did the cast for Chicago 7 so that's cool. He also has extensive stage experience which I always appreciate.

In front of me, there's two actresses that I admire ; In fact, two actresses that I saved during the first round of the rankdown & I have the difficult decision to send one home.  I've been debating on who to save & who to cut from the rankdown ; I originally was going to save Angela Lansbury over Cicely Tyson but I ended up reversing my decision as I feel that Cicely's career has been more groundbreaking and certainly a pioneer in the industry ; Both are worthy of a save but I'd love to see Cicely last a bit more longer in the rankdown...  Just like Cicely Tyson, Dame Angela Lansbury is an Hollywood legend - until her death, earlier this year, she was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of cinema.  Her career started off more than 80 years ago, and she would score her first major role, a few years, later in Gaslight in which she starred alongside Ingrid Bergman as well as scoring her first Academy Award nomination.  She went on to follow-up Gaslight with appearance in National Velvet alongside Elizabeth Taylor as well as The Picture of Dorian Gray - one of her better known role - which earned a Golden Globe as well as another nomination at the Academy Award.  She continued to appear in movies from MGM, such as Till the Clouds Roll By, The Red Danube, and The Harvey Girls ; Many people felt that her deal with MGM didn't really do much to advance her career as she was often casted to play the same character, over and over again. Everything changed for Angela when she became a freelance actress as she kept scoring roles that earned praises such as Summer of the Seventeenth Doll, The Dark of the Top of Saints, and All Fall Down ; However, the role that changed everything was her portrayal in The Manchurian Candidate which is often referred as her best performance & was a favourite to win the Oscar but lost it to Patty Duke.  She eventually transitioned to Broadway where she appeared in musicals such as Mame - one of my favourite role of hers - which turned her into a Gay Icon & a Tony Award winning actress ; Other musicals that she has appeared in includes Gypsy, The King and I, Sweeney Todd - easily the best Bakers' Wife portrayal, in my opinion, and A Little Night Music to name a few. However, her global fame came with Murder She Wrote which is what first introduced me to Angela Lansbury & I would eventually fall in love with her portrayal in Bedknobs and Broomsticks, as well voice over for Mrs. Potts in one of my favourite Disney movie, Beauty and the Beast.   In recent years, she has appeared on the television movie of Little Women, Mary Poppins Returns, and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.   In other words, Angela Lansbury is a legend & the world of cinema and musical theatre is better because of her contribution to it.
