I am surprised they bit the bullet now, but I'm honestly fine with it, Blake just seems so out of it this season, and it's starting to negatively impact my enjoyment of the show.

I do think there's one possible replacement for Blake that will maintain the core demo that makes this show run: Dolly Parton. She's a national treasure, and she's extremely telegenic. I am inclined to believe that they already got her if they are willing to let go of Blake, but that's just the eternal optimist in me.

I don't think another male country star would be able to fill the void Blake would leave.

I can also see them getting Reba, given her relationship to Kelly. I think Reba would be a nice replacement, but I don't feel confident that she will draw the demo in like Dolly.

Most importantly, I am just excited to see how Blake's departure would shake up the stagnant voting patterns of this show.

Well I will cop to voting for one of the "extremes" (show will go on regardless of replacement). I don't think it's as easy to find a "similar" replacement as some of you do. Lots of people who are good singers and/or country artists aren't actually good in an unscripted tv show format. Carrie is an excellent example, she is a great singer, and does well with scripted stuff, but she's well known in country music for being a very bland personality in unscripted moments. Blake has also spent a long time building the rapport with the audience, a new coach won't have that loyalty.

I wasn’t expecting Blake to announce he was leaving, but whoever they announce as his replacement has one heck of a pair of shoes to fill.

As for the “Dolly replaces Blake” theory, all I’m going to say is that if it ever ends up being true, any contestant who gets Dolly to turn but picks a different coach best be prepared to be absolutely crucified online (because how does one say “no” to Dolly???).

In all seriousness, I can’t think of a good Blake-ish artist who could fill his void, but it’d have to be someone country. The issue is that in country there’s nobody who’s in that lull in their career where a show like The Voice could be appealing that a similar level of telegenic + at the level of fame that Blake was pre-show + not overly divisive within the country sphere. I will acknowledge I’m out of the country music loop a bit, but finding someone that strikes that balance is tough.

I agree. I feel Blake stepping down is a loss for the show, the contestants, and the viewers who are partial to country music.

While Dolly and Reba can certainly fill the classic country void, they're women. And there's also a big age difference. Blake is called "grandpa" and teased about being the old guy on the panel, yet he's only 46. Reba is 67, and Dolly is 76.

Blake is quick-witted and is apparently willing to participate in any goofiness. Despite his wealth and fame, he's unpretentious. He gets along with a wide variety of people, and the warm interactions with his team members seem genuine and natural. Former Team Blake members have expressed appreciation for the fact that he is encouraging but tends to let experienced artists chart their own course in the live shows. He's been generous (especially in the early seasons) and helpful to several of his own team members, and even a few from other teams have performed at his five Ole Red venues.

I've watched every season, and I'll miss Blake. I do understand his desire for a break from The Voice and more time with Gwen and her boys, though. I wish them the best.

Hopefully producers can find a good replacement, but I believe it will be a difficult task.

1 to 1 replacement will not be possible. Only other person comes to my mind when say ‘country & fun’ is Luke Bryan. He’s definitely not signing with NBC.

Brad Paisley is also a good choice.

I think they have to find a new way to have fun now instead of Blake’s way.
they will probably go for a younger person.

I do think that the show will go on just fine if a suitable replacement for Blake can be found.  Problem is finding out who is possible, and who'd be interested.  But if they really are going back to one a year again (which I doubt is true), then there's plenty of time.

Truthfully, Luke Bryan was my first choice since his and Blake's sense of humor is pretty much the same.  But he's on AI, so unless NBC can lure him away from ABC, he's booked solid with them.  Brad Paisley is another option, even though his own brand of humor is drier compared to Blake's.  But what about Tim or Garth?  Surely they wouldn't mind, either.  Unless they'd be too expensive.

I admit, I was stuck between option 1 and option 2... and I went with option 1. Call me an extremist lol.

But I don't think the show will IMMEDIATELY tank. It's just that Blake is such an integral part of the show's charm. He isn't like Adam, Christina, and Cee Lo were; I remember seeing criticisms of their mannerisms and antics at the beginning of the show's run, but I saw comparatively very little of that with Blake. On the contrary, he literally has people who just tune in to see his quick-witted antics. I also believe there are still people out there who blanket-vote for whoever is on his team no matter what.

I could see the producers panicking and jumping the shark with its format, trying crazy new things to shake up the formula while viewers loathe every second, or trying to replicate his presence with someone who is far more divisive (in terms of their personal life and/or their banter on the show), like Jason Aldean lol. Or Morgan Wallen. No matter what, I see viewership steadily dropping off, albeit definitely not immediately. I don't think it'll burn out, but I think it'll fade away in 3-4 Post-Blake seasons.
