at least tonight the best one was not eliminated . we might not be so lucky in the coming weeks.

I don't like it either, why do they have to keep changing everything

I knew Knight was William Shatner based on the clues (the William Shakespeare bust, space (representing Star Trek and him going into space), and the covers tape (he has some albums in which he does covers of some songs)). The performance gave him away further. The costume was on the ridiculous end, but it looked like he had fun (especially considering he's 91). The only thing that would've been better is if he yelled Denny Crane after his unmasking.

I knew Hedgehog wasn't Ringo Starr because no act has sung any of his/her/their own songs on the show so far. I've heard of Monty Python but have not seen anything of theirs, so I was unfamiliar with Eric Idle. This probably made the Monty Python fanbase happy, though.

Them leaving Hummingbird's unmasking as a cliffhanger was predictable because they started the countdown to Lego Masters after announcing Harp was the queen for the episode. Besides, they didn't even have the panel guess who they thought it was. I think he's an athlete, but I'm not sure it's Tom Brady because he looks too short to be Brady. Finally, this has to be the second time a song that has already been done on the show appears, and Monster outsold it the first time:

As for Harp, I agree with the guesses thus far that it's

Amber Riley

The clues and voice point to that person.

Overall, it was a solid premiere. I'm not sure if I'll like the new format where multiple acts are eliminated every episode, but we'll see what happens. On the other hand, having so many acts ought to be interesting. I'm just waiting for the obligatory Jamie Foxx guess(es). It looks like the First Impression Guesses and Golden Ear isn't coming back. :( Regardless, here's hoping this season is better than the previous one.

Finally, Nicole in that red dress... 😈

Watching on the west coast now so going to avoid spoilers in here until it’s over. :giggle:

But omg Harp having to carry that actual harp around behind her. :dead: Also, me guessing right away who she is based on the actual clues and not just her voice?! I feel so smart.  But three of the four judges guessing legit Idol alums makes no sense when she clearly said she was told “no”…   And two of the people they guessed won the show! :dead: :?

This Masked Singer VIP section is too much. :dead:

Thank goodness Harp advanced (although omg at confetti and how dramatic her advancement was on week 1 :dead: ), as I don't think anyone else came close to her level. Hummingbird was good too though.

Really not a fan of this format now that I'm understanding it more... thankfully this group wasn't stacked so the result was fine IMO, but Harp has to face the winner of next week and then one will be eliminated? Is that correct? Definitely not here for that. Oh and wow, imagine all the time and money that's gone into soooo many costumes that will only see the light of day once. :dead:

"We can't wait to see who you are" and then the show cuts out? :dead:

This! That's why when Nick said "We can't wait to see who you are", I literally shouted at my TV "Well, you're going to make us!" :dead:

omg yesssssss!  And did they finally get him on the show? :giggle:

OK since we have to wait a week for Hummingbird's reveal, I took another look at the clues, and I might have a theory:

First thing to note: the whole Super Bowl theme is a distraction but not entirely irrelevant.

I think this might be

Chris Kirkpatrick.

1.) The mention of Shaq references the fact that *NSYNC recorded their first album in his Orlando mansion. This was revealed by Lance Bass in a TMZ interview.
2.) The Super Bowl theme is simply a reference to *NSYNC's Super Bowl appearance.

3.) The ring pops = "Pop", one of *NSYNC's biggest hits (honestly this is the one connection that led me down to all the other clues).
4.) "It's in my DNA" = Chris has a very musical family. Also probably an indirect Backstreet Boys reference, as a red herring (same as the "All or Nothing" line at the end.
5.) 71 on the scoreboard = Chris's birth year.

We'll see if I dug down the right rabbit hole next week, I guess!

Yeah I'm guessing that's why we have 22 contestants. That will give us 7 weeks with 3 eliminations per episode, with 1 artist left standing in the end.

Then they could have an additional week where the masks with the most wins will compete in a Final Round.

My issue with this format is that as we have seen in previous seasons before, it can take a time for a celebrity to get used to singing inside a stuffy mask. There's no room for improvement with this format: you have to be amazing right out of the gate to survive more than a week.

I'm guessing they're using this format because the celebrities they got wouldn't sign on for multiple episodes?

Looking at it, all of it is plausible. It may very well be that person. Too bad we'll have to wait a week to see it. In past seasons they had another episode the day after when they teased an unmasking like this.

i have seen some  guesses it was him . the actual clues make it sound like a football player but it is possible it is a singer instead.

Same to all of this. :(

Very true. We're lucky that the one obvious best one made it through. But it's going to be tough when there are multiple great singers.

Yeah I think I was saying that last week. I don't think they need to keep changing the format. It's too much.

I could have sworn I heard him say 26 contestants and was so confused. :dead:  But I did originally hear 22 as well. Fascinating... but yeah, not a fan of this for the reasons you said and more. :haha:

That is a very interesting and potential theory though. 😮  That would play into how they arranged the groups a lot then.

Are we allowed to guess here?

Yes, but I'd recommend putting guesses in spoiler tags for those who don't want to see.

(And in case you or anyone else doesn't know how, you can do it with this code):

Me too but also not because then the fun will be over. bye2.gif.7960d44992e1eeff806cdce1d9856c2 :lmao:

I think I would prefer two episodes a week with this format anyway. Four contestants is just so few and I want more. :haha:

So the finale episode is gonna look just like the others? With the reigning king/queen singing against the three new contestants?

no from what i read after 3 rounds for example if harp makes it the next 2 rounds then she movies to finale then we get a new group for 3 rounds whoever wins that is number 2 in finale then the final group whoover wins makes 3.

Don't love the new format.  There were a lot of non-singers.  I actually thought it sounded like Shatner, so I was surprised I actually was right.

UK Hedgehog was much cuter.  I'm thinking the more elaborate costumes will be the ones they think will get through.  I hate having to wait a week for the reveal.  I can't remember it that long!  :haha:

maybe 26 cause they are counting the 2 trios as 3 contestants each or is it 26 total  cause if you add the 2 each in the trios maskes you get 26 from 22

Oooh very true. 😮 So maybe I didn't mishear! To be fair, I was in a different room at the time so I could have heard it as 26 or not ( :dead: ), but at least it makes sense. :haha:
