Worst battles ever.

The first one is obviously Jamal vs. Levi - Counting Stars (S18). Both Christina and Sam put that song to rest, and then this happened and I had to watch the epic S6 battle over and over again.

The first one that always comes to mind is Katelyn vs. Treeva S8 - just cannot get into that one

Brittany vs. Trey S10 is always a boring one that comes to mind

Celia vs. Karly S16 - not a fan of Karly and I had to hear Celia's voice as she tries so hard to sing with that accent or whatever you call it lol

Just mentioned this in another thread, but omg this one is literally the reason montages exist, yet we were forced to watch it in full instead of Anita Antoinette or Bryana Salaz's iconic battles. Bree has a pretty and unique voice, but both of her performances were pitchy. Taylor was also pitchy and her voice just never stood out (her beating Allison Bray in the KOs was one of the biggest robberies on the show). Their voices didn't blend together at all and sounded like nails on a chalkboard.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I also really disliked this battle. Jacob's voice kinda annoyed me and I remember being so mad when he got stolen 🤭 To be fair, this song was completely in Corey's lane and not Jacob's, so he did the best he could, but it sounded like Corey was steamrolling Jacob the entire performance.

Probably a very unpopular opinion, but I also disliked this battle. It literally felt like both of them were just shouting/yelling at each other the entire time. I might just be biased though because I really did not like Kathrina that season. It hurt seeing half of my favorites get sent home in the Battles while she got stolen 😭

No comments necessary for this one... So excited for this to get removed in like a week or two. I doubt Jacob Miller/Kevin Farris had much better of a battle, but Lights Up is at least an interesting song, so I'm sad that performance got montaged in favor of Levi and Jamal's trainwreck.

It HURT watching Payton Lamar, my dark horse prediction for the season/one of my top 5 auditions that year, give this terrible performance. I swear, Blake gives the non-country artists on his team the worst songs.

Blake once again giving his non-country artists the worst song for a battle ever. WTF was this?

I can't make a "Worst Battles" list without including something from Team Ceelo. Who approved this???

This battle felt unfair for Sa'Rayah. She deserved a more interesting song and battle partner :( =

I'm sorry, but in comparison to Loren Allred and Jess Kellner/Taylor Beckham, this performance sounded like a middle school talent show performance. Why did Anna decide to make everything into a strange unnecessary run? Why did Ainae not get any good parts in the song? The world may never know.

One of the 700 boring country battles we've had on this show. I will NEVER forgive the editors for montaging Carolina vs. Xavier but not this. At least it was short-clipped, so we didn't have to see the full thing, I guess.

Some other questionable battles that probably would've been on this last had they not been montaged would be:

  • Nadjah Nicole vs. Cole Kriske (Hit Me One More Time) - What was Blake thinking???
  • Katherine Ho vs. Lily Green (Lovefool) - The studio sounded OK, but it sounded more like elevator music than an actual battle
  • Jamella vs. Teana Boston (Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow) - Another boring and kinda uninspired performance
  • Peyton Parker vs. Gina Castanzo (Borderline) - What was Blake thinking??? Pt. 2
  • Berritt Haynes vs. Kaitlyn Velez (Yellow) - What was Blake thinking??? Pt. 3

I think your dislike for Aaron's voice probably makes you, maybe (just maybe) a little biased on this one??  I personally think this battle was amazing and Aaron managed to keep up with Sarayah powerful voice, and the song choice was on point. I agree that she should have won, tho.

Hard disagree on this one. I thought it was one of the best battles of the season.

Ok, i liked Chris on the battle but agree on your opinions on Kathrina, she didn't deserve that steal

Highkey Aaron vs. Sa’Rayah was a top 3 battle of the season.

I’ll submit about 20 other battles from S11 before I call that one bad.

Hard disagree on this one. For me it was easily one of the best battles of the season, and one that I enjoy going back to.

Tate vs. Anders

I actually liked these guys’ auditions more than most on here, but their voices just … do … not … blend. Levi vs. Jamal was worse but they were already mentioned, so I thought I’d mention that battle.

I actually enjoyed this one purely because Tate sounded good, but agree that the voices didn't blend. It definitely felt unfair to give Anders that song.

I was in the minority that actually liked Tamara during her season, but big yikes at this song choice. I can't believe this wasn't montaged. Of course, it was at the time that they didn't want their boy John to have his team montaged at all 🙄

It was lowkey satisfactory to see the only montaged battle of Season 20 being from his team, not gonna lie :ph34rwave:

These are probably my least favorite battles that ended in steals, apart from Julio Cesar Castillo's terrible performance of Congo that I already posted.

This battle was fine, but neither of them really stood out. I was super disappointed other people like Foushee, Mercedes Ferreira-Dias, Kayley Hill, OneUp, and Natalie Brady went home after giving better performances instead of Anthony or Steve.

I wish this one could've been short-clipped like Steve vs. Anthony. The song was awkward, the stage presence from both of them was strange, and the song went nowhere. Andrew definitely won the battle, but I wish Blake had used his steal on literally anyone else, like Ainae as he intended, or Lindsay Joan, Durrell Anthony, Bradley Sinclair, Halley Greg or literally anyone else. So many interesting people who gave good performances went home way too soon that season.

That would be another one that I would like to put here.  Ciana vs. Denisha was montaged for a reason.  What should have been a good song for them on paper, they completely butchered.

I'm just curious, were you there to see Ciana vs. Denisha in the taping? I always thought the montage and the clips they posted on social media sounded good and Ciana and Denisha are obviously both good singers and You Broke Me First seemed to be a good fit for them. I wonder what exactly made the performance bad.

Yes, I saw it via virtual audience.  Their opening solos were actually not so bad.  But when they got to the pre-chorus, they started going off pitch.  Both of them.  Before long, they were both focusing more on their vocal tricks and acrobatics than their harmonies and the actual melody (something that Kelsea also pointed out), and it made things even pitchier.  It wasn't Kawan vs. Malik messy, but it was pretty messy.  The clips you mentioned were literally the only good parts.

From what I recall, Blake, Nick, and especially Kelsea all struggled to find anything good to say about it.  Not even John could.  He was almost tempted to pull a Kelly (Rowland) and send both of them home (and it certainly would have been warranted).  But apparently, our version doesn't allow that like Australia's does.  Trust me when I say that Ciana didn't win that Battle.  She simply didn't lose.  John preempting his choice by saying that he was going to pick the one who was "less messy" pretty much implies that.

From what I saw in the comment section:

"This could have been the best battle if they weren't montaged"

"Why montage a Tate McRae song"

"That's disrespectful for the artists"

"Denisha was robbed"

(Those aren't real comments, it's just the reflection of the comment section)

I bet they didn't know the real truth behind it lol

Wow, that's wild. Super disappointing that 2 seemingly really good singers dropped the ball on what should've been an easy song? I really wish we could've seen the trainwreck. I wish someone would've "illegally recorded" it from the virtual audience :( If Jeremiah Miller and Alena D'Amico were able to somehow record their shortclipped-ish/montaged performances from the actual audiences, maybe some footage of their messy battle exists out there...

All of those comments totally check out too. Denisha had an excellent audition, it was a great song, and on paper, it should've been the best battle in a season full of mostly terrible battles. I wonder how many montaged battles were similarly bad and only got montaged due to being trainwrecks.

We know that Jeffrey Austin's battle was supposedly messy and I always theorized the reason one set of S7 battles got completely cut instead of montaged was due to them being so bad, they couldn't even show us a clip (although realistically, it was probably just due to clearing issues with Stop and Stare or something).
