Contestants who almost got screwed up by song choices but survived.

Which artists do you think were almost booted out due to not-so-good song choices?

I will start with this iconic. Glad CeeLo turned for her. If she got no chair turn, then we couldn't see the legendary "Vision Of Love" and "Dream On".

Adam really gave her this song the week she was sick to perform in front of Shania herself.

And we were hyped because we were anticipating You're Still the One or something different. M!IFLAW is a fantastic song but of all the contestants, Lilli made the least sense for that song in Season 12. On top of her being sick lol.

This obviously didn't end up as a bus, but Deandre Nico getting a Hunter Hayes song for the KOs (Wanted) definitely may have seemed like a bus on paper, especially when he was paired up against Jake Wells who was singing Yellow (a song perfectly in his lane) with an arrangement that Adam poured his heart and soul into and made his own.

I have the theory that Adam absolutely planned to choose Jake over Deandre had Jake not flopped so hard that it literally would've made no sense to pick him. Their KO was also one of the earlier ones with steals (and probably a save) still left, so had they given equal performances, Adam easily could've dumped Deandre and let him get stolen without facing any flack too. Adam also really praised Jake for listening to his input and letting him more or less control every aspect of his performance, and we all know how Adam will ditch anyone who doesn't blindly follow him (Kawan Debose?). I think Adam wanted Deandre OUT, which is why Deandre ended up getting some unconventional song choices, especially down the road...

I don’t think Adam had anything against him. He wanted to protect Reagan, and Deandre was collateral damage. I doubt they had any beef going on until that moment.

Plus, the bad song choices argument doesn’t really make sense knowing that Reagan got Complicated and Cry back to back

No that’s so fair, Cry made no sense for Reagan for sure? I can see the argument for Complicated being chosen though, but IDK why TPTB tries to throw country songs to pop singers (actually, maybe I can guess why, but….)

Picking a country song for a pop singer was not the problem. The real problem was picking a big song that requires a lot of vocal power for a singer that clearly wasn't gonna be capable of matching the power of the original.

I thought taking on unreasonably big songs that she was never going to succeed on was just Reagan’s thing 🤭
