Chris: First of all, #1 & #2 are essentially tied for me - one represents the present / the future while one represents the past ; the future & present always win so I have to rank "Better Man" got to come in at #2.  This song was released at a time when I really needed it (hint : post break-up) - every lyrics in the song just hit right in the place ; The power of Taylor Swift as a songwriter !  Everything about the song - the lyrics, the harmonies, the emotions - is perfection to me ; One of their best work !  (P.S. : This is my winner prediction)

Victoria: This was my advancement so of course I ranked it high!

Diana: iconic is a understatement I think all of us could relate to that song lol

Akshar: ICONIC!!! I didn't even know it only came out in 2016. I felt like it's been out for years. I love this song so much because there's just something about female voices that are so easy to listen to and with a song like this, their voices are perfect and man. The lyrics?!?! Deep. Such an emotional song that I do adore.

QK: I love this song! The lyrics the vocals everything about it is just absolutely fantastic. I seen them perform this live and it didn't dissapoint at all. Cracking the top 3 this year was basically impossible so I had to end up ranking it #5 but it could have easily ranked higher on other years.

Steven: Little Big Town were very fortunate that Taylor Swift gifted them this song. It's so well written and beautifully sung. However, I admit that I just listen to the Taylor Swift version of this song nowadays ever since Taylor recorded it herself for Red (Taylor's Version).

Gigi: This version is fine, but I prefer Taylor Swift's version.

Wallace: "Better Man" is a really nice song from Little Big Town and I remember the buzz about this song, as it was written by Taylor Swift. The group sounds really nice singing this song, although I guess I mostly mean Karen here? She sounds great singing the verses and all the big parts of the song. The chorus is the part that definitely sticks out the most to me, but the verses are really moving and very good too.

  • QueenKalie changed the title to Best Country Songs Of The Year Mini Rankdown 2017 2 is up!

Congrats to everyone who had Road Less Traveled as their top song.

It's a good song and I love it - I ranked it in a good spot - but definitely the weakest song to win, thus far, in my opinion.

My least favorite winner is still the Bones.

Gigi:  I advanced this song for a reason! This is one of my favorites from her.

Wallace: is often regarded as Lauren Alaina's best song and well of the songs I know and familiar of from her, I would happen to agree with that. That and I do consider this my favorite song of Lauren's. This was one of the few songs I really wanted to make it to this Final 20 and I'm glad it's here. Thanks to Gigi for advancing this! I do really enjoy Lauren's voice on this song and how she sings this song. She connects so well to the emotion and story of the song and she sells it so well. She sounds really good on the verses, but I love how her voice soars on the chorus. The chorus is moving and very catchy. The song has a great positive message to it as well. I love the vocal range she showcases throughout the song too. Great song from Lauren! I don't know how much of a shot this has of winning but I wouldn't be mad if this could win as it would be Lauren's best chance of getting a win. But I am just hoping this can make Top 5 (though better would be nice)!

QK: As someone who paid to see her headlining tour when she came to my town a couple months ago clearly I do have a lot of love for Lauren and I am happy that she was able to finally win something. This song is fantastic and has a lot of meaning and depth behind it. Having to battle an eating disorder and the super toxic Idol fans when you are super young is certainly not an easy thing to do. But what it does do is help make fantastic music and that's what we have here so congrats to Lauren on making this her first #1 and congrats to her on becoming the first singing show singer to win a year in this rankdown! I don't think anyone had Lauren as the person to pull that feet off first so surprises like that are pretty cool I think.

Diana: another song I listened to on repeat.

Akshar: Me NOT ranking Lauren last? Shocker!! BUT, this song is actually SPECTACULAR. It's such a meaningful song and I truly love everything about it. She really got an important message across and I appreciate her for that.

Chris: : After releasing her debut album in 2011 - the far more superior country album of Idol 10, which had some excellent songs like "Eighteen Inches" and "Dirt Road Player", Lauren was unable to find the success she was hoping for.  Fast forward 5 years later, she released the debut single of her upcoming sophomore album - both the single and her sophomore album proved to be a success for her.  The single was everything that was lacking from the singles from her debut album - maturity, her own sound, and a song that Country Radio can get behind ; She was able to achieve all of these by releasing a song with a great message that's upbeat and catchy !  Anyway, this song is a bop & I am glad that Lauren was able to get the recognition she deserved - this song became her first #1!

Victoria: Lauren's biggest hit certainly deserves a good ranking.

Steven:

This is a good song. Lauren really found herself musically with this song. The lyrics, melody, and vocals all come together well here.

  • QueenKalie changed the title to Best Country Songs Of The Year Mini Rankdown 2017 winner has been revealed!

Ooh lmao me being gone for a few hours, I missed all the reveals. But yay being in time for #1. :dead:

- Ooh wow "In Case You Didn’t Know" did really well and much better than I was expecting with that 6.0 average. :omg: I'm happy to see this make the Top 3 even if I had it a few spots lower. Brett probably has the best track record by a male artist in this game. Also really loved Chris' write-up and his connection to the song. ❤️ It's also crazy to believe how this could have won too. 😮 But I knew Gigi would be opposed to that. :giggle:

- I'm not surprised it was a battle between "Better Man" vs. "Road Less Traveled" for the Top 2. I did feel it would be a toss up between the two songs. I know I'll probably be in the unpopular opinion, but I'm okay with the result here. It's really great and impressive how this got to #2 and is Little Big Town's best performing song here. "Better Man" is a really beautiful and heartbreaking song and I totally get the strong love for it amongst most of the rankers.

- Yayy I do love "Road Less Traveled" from Lauren, so I'm really happy to see this song pull out the win.  😄 I did talk about and hoped for this song having the potential to win so I am glad to see Lauren was able to accomplish that here. And yeah, happy she was able to win my favorite song of hers and achieve so much success with this. Lmaoo I am also so proud of Akshar for not ranking this last. :haha: Also wow 4.875 is a really impressive score too and wow a song with no Bottom 10 rankings too. Is that a first, I wonder?

Aww sorry about that Diana. :( I hope you know it was a genuine ranking and I just happened to prefer 11 other songs more. I do like it but just liked/connected more to other songs. :blushingwave:

I have to double check this but this *might* be the first song to win that didn't have any double digit rankings.

Ah that's what I was wondering when I saw the stats. That's really impressive.

2015 is a bit of an off year for me but 2013 & 14 are going to be just as hard for me as 2016.

2010s were when I was very much into country and didn't listen much beside country music so it's tough in the sense that I know all of the songs and probably listened to a good amount of them.

I started listening in 2013 so that year is pretty special to me and 14 has so much I love too.
