Has anyone been keeping up with the Oscar race this year! I’ll come back and update the first page when nominations are announced.

Seems to be a much more interesting race this year than last year so far across the board. 😮

Truthfully I haven't seen that very movies this year :haha:. Power of the Dog is pretty easily my favorite so far so I'm hoping it does well in all the categories. I also really liked Tick Tick Boom, Coda, Don't Look Up (despite McKay's terrible directing trying to turn me off), and The Last Duel. I'm planning on catching up on all the movies I've missed in the next few weeks now that I finally have some free time again.

I've been able to catch up on more movies since my last post. Tbh I haven't really been super blown away by much, Drive My Car and Power of the Dog are definitely my top favorites of the likely Oscar contenders so I'm hoping for strong nomination hauls from them!

I loved Belfast and Don't Look Up was crazy but clever.

Being The Ricardos was messy, the behind the scenes concept was interesting though.

I still need to watch Tick Tick Boom,  King Richard, Coda and West Side Story.

Rooting for Luca and The Mitchells vs The Machines for animated movies.

Brief thoughts on each major category

Best Picture - I thought Tick, Tick...BOOM! was in after it got editing 😭. I'm happy Drive My Car snuck in though and stoked Being the Ricardos missed. West Side Story is the only nominee here I haven't seen.

Best Director - Campion and Hamaguchi  . Whocurr about the other two. Haven't seen Spielberg.

Best Actor - Predictable. I was hoping for a pleasant surprise in Nishijima or Simon Rex but I absolutely didn't have my hopes up. I'd love to see Cumberbatch or Garfield pull off the upset, but this is Smith's to lose which is fine. He's had a great career and deserves an Oscar.

Best Actress - Whew, can't believe Gaga missed :dead:. I didn't like House of Gucci, but she was the best part of it. I'm not heartbroken about her miss though. I am heartbroken about Tessa Thompson and Alana Haim though :broken:. Easily my two favorite performances of the year. I didn't have much hope in Thompson, but I was really hoping one or both would sneak in. I enjoyed all of Chastain, Colman, and Stewart though so I'm happy for them. Hated everything about Ricardos so I hope Kidman doesn't pull off the win, though she's probably the favorite with Ricardos getting three acting noms. Haven't seen Cruz yet.

Best Supporting Actor - Very happy for Kotsur and KSM. And while his performance is definitely fourth best in the movie, glad to see Plemons finally get a nom! Don't really care one way or the other about Belfast, but I'm happy for Hinds still. I looooove Simmons but that performance was a nothing performance. Such a random nomination for no reason?

Best Supporting Actress - Thrilled for Ellis and Dunst! Both have had amazing careers and deserve this so much. I'm happy for Buckley, though the flashback sequences were my least favorite part of The Lost Daughter so I didn't really need her to be nominated. Dench is completely random, while Belfast was a big meh for me, I think Balfe still deserved to be nominated over her. Haven't seen DeBose yet, but I'm very much looking forward to seeing it and her performance.

Best Original Screenplay - While I didn't love TWPITW as much as I wanted to, I'm glad it saved us from a Sorkin nomination. The rest of the nominees were predictable. Don't Look Up is probably my favorite here, but it's not like I'm passionate about any of these nominees.

Best Adapted Screenplay - Definitely the strongest category of the big eight for me. I didn't really care for Dune, but the other four are definitely amazing and I'm very happy for them and would be happy to see any of them win.

Oooof wow, that was a CRAZY moment between Will Smith and Chris Rock. Chris made a G.I. Jane joke regarding Jada. Will didn't take to that joke well. I guess it could be because she's gone through her hair loss condition.

I found uncensored footage to get a better understanding of it.
