Contestants Who Didn't Show Their Full Potential Before Being Eliminated

There have been quite a few.

- This was more of a case of the show rather than the actual contestant, but I don't think Sid Kingsley had the chance to show everything he was made of. His covers off the show are much better song choices for him than what he actually got on the show. Plus, he was on a short season.

- I also have to agree with Katherine Ann Mohler, she had some really beautiful covers pre-show, but nothing she did on the show ever clicked for me.

- Holly Forbes 100%. If she had took the indie pop/singer-songwriter route, I think I would've liked her run way more. Her covers of Ocean Eyes and Slow Dancing In A Burning Room are *chef's kiss*

The last part of the title doesn’t match for this one since it’s a winner, but Brynn fits this for me. I wasn’t a fan of most of her performances on the show, but I really like her off show covers and guest performances. Even with some of the songs she sang on the show, I prefer the off show performances.

The pressure of the show can definitely have an effect. Add to that the poor acoustics and sound mix. I learned this after watching Mary Sarah perform live for 90 minutes. While we’re at it, let’s add her to the list.

This one still frustates me to this day, what happened??

She showed on her battle that she has a powerful voice, but somehow her next performances were average at best

I don’t know, but her pre-show stuff (including live videos) led me to believe she would be much better than that. The show isn’t for everyone, I guess.

I loved Mary Sarah on the Voice and have been waiting for her to release stuff that I love post Voice but it's mostly been crickets which is pretty disappointing.

She did release some stuff within the first year or so. I didn’t care for it. She tried to make it more modern for country radio, but it didn’t fit her at all.

People expected Chloe to go full 80´s glam rock in her music after she won. Her first single after the show was pretty bad, but it was, in a way, more similar that what she had done on her run that what came after. She´s now an indie/dream pop/psychadelic pop artist. A true left turn from what many expected.

I guess a segment did. It seemed pretty open. I think her fans would have been thrilled with any form of rock or folk (her pre-show material), or pop along the lines of what Miley does. A lot of folks (far from all) followed her through the Fantasy EP. She never endorsed the '80's idea during the show though it was hard to tell what she wanted. She tossed around a lot of potential genres in interviews.  I've seen the people who come after her on Twitter but most of them just want some form of rock. The last one I remember wanted Marshall Tucker.

I see 2 singles on there and I probably listened to them back then but yeah I don't remember them so it probably didn't make an impact on me I guess.

Also, i remember some people here painting Kenzie as this amazing male country singer that was gonna be unbeatable and streamroll with the competition. I started watching his covers on YouTube, and yeah, even though i'm heavily biased against male country singers, i started to somehow enjoy his material online (Only his covers, someone here mentioned that his original album was pretty bad, so i skipped that one lol)

The he came into the show and....

Yeah, i was expecting more. When you are the "embodiment of Minivan bait" and somehow Minivan still criticizes you, that is not a good sign.

Kudos to him for making me somehow enjoy a bro-country song:haha:

She recorded a cover of “Take Me Home Country Roads” and I see she just performed it this morning on Fox and Friends. She has a kid now, so I think her career has taken a back seat.

Yeah, he´s someone I thought about when I saw this thread.

He´s really good, but the show wasn´t for him. I never saw him nervous or insecure in his live performances prior to it, but he seemed very stiff and out of it on the competition.

His album is not for me lol, but I still listen to his covers, since that´s what made me excited for him prior to the show. His "Blue Christmas" one, just released, is pretty good.

KJ Jennings

She's clearly more jazz inclined than a pop artist, which is what the show sold her as. Even though her battle ended up being pretty good, I would've never imagined her singing that song based on her off-show stuff.

Raine Stern

There's no way her artistry and creativity would shine on the show they way it does in her original music. I'd say "Electric Feel" showcased it to an extent, but other than that we got an extremely random song choice and a montage in addition, so there's that.

Yeah KJ Jennings is a good choice. She was arguable the person I was most interested in preseason but obviously that didn't pan out.

Like I’ve said before, I’d have to drop nearly every one of my favorites over the years if I based it on their political views. As long as they don’t try to shove their politics down my throat, I don’t care. I have no idea what Mary’s politics are because she never says anything about it. Don’t care.
