I'd love if Leah Jenea came too

agreed but i don’t know how much success she’d find on the voice. probably she’d be more successful on american idol where they had someone like Maddie Poppe win.

ugh i wish The Four still existed but they made some changes… the talent was incomparable imo

JeRonelle from The Four was insaaaane. His low notes were incredible; I want to see an r&b singer like him on The Voice. imo he was robbed by James

His rendition of this woman's work is one of my favourite performances on the show. Dude's range is insane.

I found this a while back too

Maybe not the most heartfelt rendition of the song, but no denying the talent.

I personally really like her voice. She's a vocal beast and it's very effortless for her.

Someone described her as fantasia-esque. I'd say that's accurate. But her voice is a bit more floaty in her mid range and without the vocal squals. Her belts are oretty damn high but its piercing and it might not be for everybody.

Looks like she's already been backup for some notable singers, but she seems relatively unknown. The voice might help exposure. But maybe she prefers it as it is.

Several days later, Oliver Anthony still tops the Apple Music all genre streaming chart, and according to Kworb, is #2 on the US Spotify streaming chart. On iTunes, he holds 5 spots in the top 10, and 18 of the top 67. I don’t think his songs were uploaded to the streaming platforms until last weekend, so he didn’t have a full week for the Hot 100, but he might hit #1 anyway. This really does seem unprecedented. He basically won the lottery.

We are definitely going to be inundated with copy cats now.

There’s already a precedent for it, just not at this ridiculous scale. He just got really lucky.

He’s already reportedly turned down an $8 million deal. This is crazy.

Yup, he turned down $8 million according to his FB post

John Rich posted that all major Nashville labels are trying to sign him.

He's right; no major label would allow its artist to release a song like this.

I don't think it's luck. The song's message speaks to many people from various backgrounds worldwide (see video comments).  The YT video has 26mil views in 11 days, more than 2mil/day average. Here's a compilation of YT reactions.

It's really a sad song, sounds hopeless, even. Maybe that's why many people relate to it, and in a sense, it gives them some comfort that they're not the only ones in their situations.

From the singer's FB post:

It's been difficult as I browse through the 50,000+ messages and emails I've received in the last week. The stories that have been shared paint a brutally honest picture. Suicide, addiction, unemployment, anxiety and depression, hopelessness and the list goes on.

Yeah…the grifters and opportunists are trying to latch on to him too.

He claims to be "dead center" politically. He seems to dislike both parties and he said "they both serve the same master" (I agree with him on this). So I think he won't align himself with known personalities of either side.

Anyway, since he already turned down an $8 million deal, I guess we can safely assume that he won't be interested in Idol or The Voice or any other avenues of fame. :haha:

If he’s smart, he’ll continue saying that, and not align with political individuals. I agree with everything Trigger said about that. He can afford to take his time, and make wise decisions.

Looks like he and his team are taking it slow, doing a lot of the work (including booking shows) themselves.

Interesting article. Several labels and artists have reached out to them.

It’s official. #1 on the Hot 100.

It will probably be #1 next week too, based on current steaming and downloads.

I’ve listened to everything he has on Apple Music, and IMO, some of his other songs are better. Like I’ve said, it’s not my cup of tea, but I find this overnight (literally) rags to riches story fascinating. There will absolutely be many more people trying to follow this path.

Since IDF isn’t interested in the biggest story in the actual music industry, this will be my last post on this topic. :P

I posted about him on GD because I thought IDF would be interested in a singer's meteoric rise to fame, similar to winning Idol or Voice. And I really thought he could be a favorite for  a couple of IDFers if he was on The Voice.

Instead, Oliver Anthony and his song seemed to have triggered some people. A blue-collar anthem is somehow a bad thing.

I'm glad that "Rich Men North of Richmond" is #1 on the Hot 100. It's a rare thing to see a song hit #1 as its debut on the Billboard charts. IDF should be happy about it because it knocked off Morgan Wallen from the top spot. :haha:

I agree that some of his songs are better; a couple songs remind me of George Thorogood songs. But I doubt they will have the same impact as RMNOR. The song spoke about several issues that affects many people and said things that many people believe but can't say.

As to the style of music, this is actually the kind of country song I like. If he was signed to a major label, I don't know if he would be able to release any of the songs he has now. They seem not to fit country radio.

He doesn’t need country radio.

Basically, it’s a song mocking D.C. politicians for somehow accumulating millions of dollars on a salary of $174K, while many of the people they represent get squeezed in numerous ways. There’s not much disagreement on that concept, but people can always find stuff to get offended about. Do I think it’s a lyrical masterpiece? No, but that lack of polish is a big part of the appeal for many people.

I don’t think he’s singing about a particular political party in any of his songs. I can’t remember which song, but there’s a line ripping both Democrats and Republicans as “full of crap.” Does anyone disagree? If so, I’d love to hear your reasoning.

I won´t go into full details, but I get it. It´s no surprise that he whole "honest, hardworking man  being screwed over" narrative the song portrays has won over most of the right wing party. I actually haven´t really seen that much criticism from the left as opposed to just praise from the right.

He makes valid points across the song, but the execution of some of them are quite iffy (I´m sure some here might agree if you just look at the lyrics). Overall I feel like the whole overnight success story is part of the charm, rather that just the song itself.

I´ll leave it at that, and I´m actually interested to see what his next move will be.
