The way some people gripe about male country singers on The Voice, you'd think that type of contestant has won the majority of the 20 seasons. Yet the winners haven't been predominantly pure country singers—much less male country artists. I'd only label Craig Wayne Boyd and Jake Hoot as pure country. Sundance Head is more country than Todd Tilghman. I'd call Sawyer Fredericks folk. Even if you count all of those as country, that's 5:20 winners. The remaining seven male winners aren't country.

Ok, let's look at the finalists then

S4: The Swon Brothers

S6: Jake Worthington

S7: Craig Wayne Boyd

S9: Barret Baber

S10: Adam Wakefield

S11: Sundance Head AND Josh Gallagher

S13: Red Marlow

S15: Kirk Jay

S16: Gyth Ridgdon, Dexter Roberts AND Andrew Sevenfield (There have been this much finalists in a finale of the exactly same genre??)

S17: Jake Hoot

S19: Jim Ranger AND Ian Flanigan

S20: Kenzie Wheeler

That's more than half of the seasons with at least a male country finalist. Notice how i didn't even count Todd since some people insists he is not country (Even though 3 out of the 7 songs he sang on the show are classified as country, but oh well🙄. ) And yeah, Sawyer is not country at all, so i'll give you that

Its more them making it far than winning.

IDF isn't precisely a big fan of country as a whole, while the main demographic of this show loves it. Not to mention that if these forum happens to really like a country artist, its most likely a female. Males are given a harder time here, but the audience loves them, and are more prone to vote for them than female country artists or any artists of other genres. Take S16 for example. That was a Blake empire.

At this point, if you put several artists from several genres (Pop, R&B, Blues, Rock, Indie) on a team, and there is a country male, its pretty likely that the public vote is gonna go to him, and its also pretty likely that he might be IDF's least favorite contestant of the team. Of course this doesnt always happen, but most of the time it does. The country guy has to really underdeliver to not get voted through.

As someone who enjoys country music, I really dont have a problem with most country artists on the show, be male or female. I've loved quite a few. (With some obvious exceptions). But I like other artists too, and its a bit frustrating to think that an artist from another genre I enjoy is gonna really have to fight hard for a spot given that a country guy is likely getting it. (But of course, if I love said country male, I won't complain at all, I'll admit that).
