Season 1 Rankings

 

1. Ashle Dawson

The most versatile dancer by far this season. She nailed everything she did. She didn't have a weak performance. She often gets sleeps on because she comes from Season 1 but she had one of the best run of all-time from any series. She was just flawless!

 

2. Jamile McGee

Was he perfect during his run? Hell, no.  He had several missteps throughout his journey and holds the honor of having my two least favorite routines of the season with the quickstep and viennese waltz but he is one of the personalities that really drawns you in. His hip hop skills were also tremendous and the only one I see being better than him is tWitch. He's also very hot and after looking at his instagram he is still very very very hot.

 

 

3. Artem Chigvintsev

This ranking is definitely benefitted by having danced a lot of ballroom routines but well he's just such an outstanding ballroom dancer that it was just a joy watching him do them. The times he was outside his journey he was pretty great as well so he didn't have any bad routine imo. And just like Jamile he is very hot and to be honest in the run for hottest guy from sytycd.

 

4. Melissa Vella

 

Melissa was easily the second most versatile dancer of season 1. She was just pretty much robbed in the middle of the competition and she deserved to make it to the finale. She was some lackluster routines but that were her partners fault. I wish I could have seen her dancing a lyrical routine. I wasn't able to find her social medias and a recent picture.

 

5. Blake McGrath

I wish I could have seen him dancing hip hop. Without a doubt the most versatile guy of the season. 

 

6. Nick Lazarrini

Nick was the one that suffered most on rewatch for me. I used to think he was my favorite guy but I just didn't enjoy him that much as I used to. He' s great soloist and Knock on wood is iconic though. 

 

7. Snow Urbin

Soloist queen!! I loved her personality

 

8. Sandra Colton

Robbed!!! I think she could have been great!

 

 

9. Melody Lacayanga

If it wasn't for Knock on Wood and All that jazz she would be near the bottom for me

 

11. Kamilah Barret

She had some great moments but some very bad. She will always have Toma though

 

11. Ryan Conferido

He peaked with his Mambo but was never able perform as good 
 

 

12. Destini Rogers

She will always have Shake 

 

13. Allan Frias

I appreciated it him more this time around but I still prefer most of the other dancers.

 

14. Craig DeRosa

Season 1 - Review

I've always been fond of season 1 as without it there wouldn't have been any SYTYCD for us the audience. Even if along the years the choreography and dancers became much more creative, I still there were many brilliants moments and personalities here. Ballroom is massively underrated this season imo, and I believe is arguably one of the best season to produce great ballroom routines, and I think the main reason for that is that ballroom choreographers were keeping the routines within the style instead of adapting it to the dancers like in future seasons. I still think the best Paso Doble, Foxtrot and Disco came from this season and nothing has been able to beat them. Hip hop was also great imo, Shake, Toma, Can't Stop won't stop, Holla back and Feel the girl are really great hip hop routines and the only two season that I could think where hip hop was stronger are only season 4 and season 10. Contemporary/Jazz./Broadway were probably the weakest genres this season but still some great routines came along like Message in a bottle, Heaven and All that Jazz. Overall it was a pretty enjoyable season that still holds very good to this day, it will probably end up in the middle of the season rankings for when I finish watching the rest.

I actually did a hottest dancers ranking once. @JC clocked me so early for being gay when I had Jeanine and Jayme Rae so high before I was out to anybody.

CA Season 2

Week 1 - Top 20 Routines

 

 

Tara-Jean & Everett  - Jive - Lust for life - Melissa Williams

Ugh a Melissa Williams routine, not the best start for anyone tbh. Is she even capacitated to choreograph a jazz? I hated hated the choreography. This didn't look like a jive, more like a Charleston but this is absolutely Melissa's fault. They did a good job with what they were given but not enough jive for my taste. Blake already underwhelm... I'm with you Blake, I'm with you. Jean-Marc saying that this was theater jive.... a nice way to say it was not a jive lol. To be honest the most interesting for me was seeing Everett on those tight jeans. 

 

Amy & Vincent - Samba - Batucadas - Tony Meredith & Melanie LaPatin

Tony & Melanie  A lot of ballroom content in this which I always appreciate. The little mistake at the beginning was unfortunate but they keep going which was great. Amy was sloppy at some parts but in others she was really great. I forgot how really attractive I found Vincent back in the day, and I still do. Vincent was perfect. A good start from both of them. 

 

Melanie & Cody - Contemporary - Taking Chances - Stacey Tookie

It was a cute routine from both of them. It is not gonna be one of my favorites at the end of the season but it was definitely a good start from them. I also really love Stacey Tookie choreography. Melanie was stellar and Cody was giving his best effort which I appreciated. Solid job. Trey calling them the final 2???? Calm down sis lol. Judges are having a love fest. Lol at Jean Marc already crying, I forgot how extra he was

 

Kim & Emanuel - Hip Hop - Here comes the hammer - Sho-Tyme

Lol Leah is the worst host  I think this is one of those routines where you need to be a really good hip hop dancer to pull it off. Kim was great and killing it but Emanuel was terrible. He just drag the routine down and unfortunately Kim with it. I'm sorry for Kim cause I think she killed it, she was just let down by her partner. Judges agree with me. 

 

Corynne & Anthony - Viennese waltz - The time of my life - Pierre Allaire

This was somehow very awkward. Posture was a mess by Corynne and surprisingly as well from Anthony. I think he should have been way better considering he is ballroom. The only good thing was the lift. Luther pretty much saying okay it was good and then moving to Blake right away  I love Jean-Marc's ability to talk and talk and make the impression of complimenting the dancers when he is actually not saying anything at all

 

Natalie & Danny - Hip Hop - Get Buck in Here - Sho-Tyme 

I guess this had some elements of Krump in it as well. Natalie was good I guess but Danny just looked like a white boy trying to do hip hop. I was very underwhelmed by the whole thing. Judges liked it though. How am I gonna rank all of these routines when most of them are just meh.

 

Jayme Rae & Daniel - Afro-Jazz - The Path - Sean Cheesman

What is the difference between Afro-Jazz and African Jazz??? It's like they know I needed an amazing routine and they just delivered!!! I always forget how great this routine was. It was easily the best routine of that night and an amazing start for this amazing partnership. They killed it!!! Probably one of my favorite African Jazz from all time. Judges agree with me

 

Jenna-Lynn & Nicolas - Disco - Waking up in Vegas - Melissa Williams

Ok so they just basically danced a jazz routine. This was no disco!!!! Ugh Melissa Williams keeps delivering terrible routines. Jenna-Lynn was good on this jazz and Nicolas was good on this jazz as well. Trey calling it a contemporary disco... Thank you!!!!!! Judges liked it, I guess they don't mind getting a jazz instead of a disco. Well they did well with what they got so that's okay I guess. 

 

Courtney Galiano is in the house . She is clearly bored from this top 20 show already.

 

Tatiana & Austin - Segura O Coco - Capoeira - Paul Becker

Why are they dress like that?? I'm not Brazilian but I think I have enough knowledge to know that Capoeira is not supposed to be dance on those clothes. Also there was not enough Capoeira content. I was disappointed cause it was not an accuratel representation of Capoeira. They did good I guess but I wanted more. Tatiana was better though.

 

Melanie & Taylor - Diferente - Tango - Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin

omg he was so bad!! Worst guy performance of the night. Melanie was also not super good, I was also suprised. Well it looks like she is just getting into ballroom and it showed lol. The most mismatch couple for sure. The choreography was there but they just didn't deliver.

It was just okay. I don't like tributes very much also I don't want to see a MJ tribute anymore.

 

Bottom 3 Couples

Melanie & Taylor - Deserving

Amy & Vincent - This makes no sense at all. They were my 3rd favorite of the night.

Tatiana & Austin - This wasn't the worst but the bottom 5 routines were all in the same level of bad so I'm not mad

 

Bottom 6 Solos

Melanie - Jive - Land of a thousand dances

It was just okay but still much better than Melanie

I guess he was good. I don't like him but this was probably the 2nd best solo of the night.

 

Eliminations

Tatiana - I cannot believe they cut her over Melanie. Robbed!!!!!! Omg girls let her breathe, this is her moment. Everybody is very upset like me that they didn't cut Melanie  Tatiana is pissed!

 

Taylor - He was the weakest guy during both nights so this unlike the girls elimination was the right choice.
