Elliott Posted September 17, 2021 Share Posted September 17, 2021 (edited) Friends may not hold up particularly well by 2021 standards (especially the very obvious lack of any POC in a show that takes place in NYC...), but for the #1 show in America to normalize openly gay characters and have an actual lesbian wedding early on its run while also featuring them as parents in the early 90s definitely deserves credit, imo. I just think it'd be a very fair #1 since it was one of the biggest cultural shows of our lifetimes. And maybe part of the reason I am down on the 90s rankdown is that in general I think the 2000s had much better tv shows. But I do think the top 20 for the 2000s was a lot stronger.
