As long as it’s not NappyTabs Jazz with chest pops

.Rei Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 US10 RESULTS PART ONE 20. Hayley Erbert & Paul Karmiryan - "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" - (Contemporary by Dee Caspary) Watch Here RANKINGS: @Zoey - 5 @*Wallace - 10 @Erestor - 13 @kritaaay - 17 @.Rei - 17 @taylorkat - 18 @FrogLenzen - 19 @totes4totes - 20 Avg. Score = 14.88 COMMENTS Wallace Quote Lol I remember being so shocked with this song choice as I never imagined it could be slowed and so pretty like this. But I am glad that this dance managed to make it through to the finals, as I do love this. I think this is a really gorgeous and stunning routine. Hayley is so stunning and lovely to watch dancing Contemporary and that dance showcases this perfectly. Paul was great here too. Paul showcased once again how great he is/can be with these Contemporary styles. I love how understated this dance is but it's still affective. Kriti Quote here's a fun fact for you, i had not heard the original 500 miles when i saw this routine performed. so i thought it was beautiful and lovely. it still is beautiful however i cannot watch it anymore without laughing so hard Rei Quote Yeah, it is pretty. Dee always does lovely routines and Hayley and Paul are great performers. This however is not that memorable and i regret having voting for this on the final voting round Derek Quote It’s fine. There are like 45 Paul/Makenzie routines that should be here instead. Megan Quote Back when Season 10 was airing I used to be a Hayley stan and thus I had this routine I think ranked 9.0/10 for the Rates the Routines game. I am the only one with the power to check so you cannot even correct me. But now, over a decade removed from the season, I can admit that it's f*cking corny and I am NEVER getting over the song choice. NEVER. Sleeping at Last exists solely to provide music for primetime melodramas. If you don't believe me look at their wikipedia page. They weren't even on the GOOD Twilight movie soundtrack, they were in Breaking Dawn - PART 1 (aka the one I saw in THEATERS). Anyway, I rewatched this routine and it's lovely in the way that lyrical Dee Caspary routines often are. But then it kicks in to "I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more" and then all I imagined in my brain was that video of the David Tenant era Doctor Who cast and crew doing a little lip sync to this song. There are 80s bands whose most famous songs have been covered to remove the 80s-ness out of them to great success (Lorde's "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and Gary Jules's "Mad World" come to mind) but "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" is so jaunty that it just doesn't work. IDK maybe you didn't spend your 21-22 years drunk in a piano bar! But anyway, this is all to say that song selection is important. A bad song can ruin a routine. This is that exact case. 19. Paul Karmiryan & Kathryn McCormick- "Tied Up" - (Jazz by Tyce Diorio) Watch Here RANKINGS: Patryk - 4 Gigi - 6 Zoey - 14 Megan - 15 Wallace - 16 Kriti - 19 Rei - 20 Derek - 20 Avg. Score = 14.25 COMMENTS Megan Quote This is a good fun routine. I don't mind it here in the top 20 even if I probably would not have put this routine in the Top 20 if I had my way. Wallace Quote I'm kinda surprised Paul only ended up with 2 routines here as I thought he would have had more. I kinda forgot about this routine but this was a really fun, flirty and enjoyable Jazz routine. Kathryn always shines in her all-star dances. Paul did well and was fun to watch here too. They were fun to watch together. This has never been a dance I was that huge on but I've always liked and appreciated it. Kriti Quote I actually quite enjoy this routine and still don't think it should have been in the top 20 lol Rei Quote Wild that Paul´s only two routines are at the bottom of this Top 20. But then we managed to have Tied Up and I´m Gonna Be on the Top 20 instead of actual great pieces like Dum Dum, The Edge Of Glory and You´ll find a way, so i guess we deserve this. This is the type of Tyce routines that i do not enjoy. Derek Quote It’s fine. Didn’t expect this to make the finals. There are like 45 Paul/Makenzie routines that should be here instead. 18. Mariah Spears & Dorian "BluPrint" Hector - "Bring The Noize" - (Hip-Hop by Luther Brown) Watch Here RANKINGS: Megan - 8 Kriti - 12 Wallace - 12 Rei - 13 Gigi - 14 Derek - 17 Zoey - 17 Patryk - 19 Avg. Score = 14.00 COMMENTS Megan Quote Not all the hip-hop routines ending up in a glut in the middle-top of my rankings. But this is probably the best group of hip-hop in a season since I want to say Season 4. Mariah is a bit like Season...11? Marquet where using her cross-training she can audition as an "unexpected" style. She's definitely helped by being like a white girl hip-hop dancer (or even just being a female hip-hop dancer) which definitely got her on the show as opposed to being just a pretty regular jazz dancer (which I believe is also in her background). But I like this routine because Bluprint is so good. Mariah is good as well. (But imagine like Jasmine in this routine or Comfort or IDK Jade). Jade and Bluprint's "Trigger" would rate more highly from me (as maybe "Hello Good Morning") but I ENDED UP BEING THE RANDOMIZER ELIMINATOR VOTE. I'll never emotionally recover from that. But I think because Luther can't do the same kind of dirty grimy routines that he did in Canada, he kind of branches out a bit more in the US. It also is probably do to the fact that he gets A LOT of poppers (the paths that Cyrus forged on this show!). Kriti Quote Another routine that was sadly less than the sum of its parts but I'm putting it this high just as a memorial of my hopes and dreams when Mariah made this top 20. I'm glad we had more and better hip-hop girls in the following seasons though! Wallace Quote This Top 20 is so unpredictable in the sense that I did not expect "Bring The Noize" to make the Final 20 over "Dead in the Water." I thought the latter was Mariah's standout routine and would have preferred that here. But at the same time, I really enjoyed "Bring The Noize" so I have no issues with this being here. But yeah I do love the hype energy this routine here. Mariah and BluPrint dance this routine with a lot of flavor, swagger and they hit the choreo so hard and effortlessly here. This is just really cool and a lot of fun! Rei Quote BluPrint ate!!!! Mariah was good! Just another great showing for Luther! Derek Quote Luther can do no wrong. BluPrint is such a fascinating contestant because he’s way more versatile than Glitch ever was but he never looks like he’s working hard lol so it seems less impressive. His animation movement is sooooo intricate and insane and FAST but a lot of times it is subtle so it’s not super explosive for the purposes of this show. 17. Jasmine Mason & Alan Bersten - "Can't Help Falling In Love" - (Contemporary by Travis Wall) Watch Here RANKINGS: Zoey - 6 Wallace - 7 Patryk - 11 Gigi - 12 Kriti - 16 Derek - 18 Rei - 19 Megan - 19 Avg. Score = 13.50 COMMENTS Wallace Quote Ahh wow, I remember back when this season started, Jasmine Mason started out as my favorite and someone I was really looking forward to in the season. That's all in thanks to this routine. Ugh I really liked Jasmine & Alan together and wished they had a longer run together. But it doesn't take away from what a gorgeous and stunning routine this is. The blindgold touch is intriguing as they had to have a lot of trust with each other in how they danced and performed this. Jasmine danced this so lovely with so much grace and lovely extisquie lines. Alan does well too and is a great supportive partner for Jasmine. This is definitely a routine that can get me chills. Wow that part where Jasmine falls into Alan's arms, that takes major guts. I don't expect this to rank well as I know most rankers don't care for Jasmine like I do and maybe not care as much for SYTYCD Alan, but I'm so glad this made it here as it is one of my favorite dances of the season. Kriti Quote Beautiful! They were a lovely partnership and this routine was honestly elevated by the blindfolds and the way the choreography was adjusted to accommodate them. Derek Quote Obviously this would be more impressive with real blindfolds instead of stage blindfolds, but what can I expect from this amount of rehearsal time I guess lol. Without the blindfold gimmick it’s not THAT impactful of a piece, but that’s what makes Travis so annoyingly great at this format. When you combine the music, the blindfolds, the trust fall, the ending… it all really really works. Some of the movement in the middle is generic but he’s great at transitions with all that and the dancers executed it well despite one being Alan. Rei Quote Dumb concept. When you take the blindfolds out, you can see the same exact moves that 80% of the Travis routines have Megan Quote This overrated blindfold routine doesn't earn my last place spot solely because I can listen to its music without cringing. But does it have everything else that would make me cringe? Absolutely. This bland routine was ranked 11th overall for IDF that season. ELEVEN. Some routines lower than it? Tucker/Robert "Medicine," Jasmine/Aaron "Gold Rush," Jasmine/Aaron "Tears Always Win," Jasmine/Aaron "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight," tWitch/Fik-Shun "Hello Good Morning," Fik-Shun/Jasmine "Spiegel Im Spiegel." I COULD GO ON. Mid. If we wanted an Alan/Jasmine M routine here it should have been their tango.
FrogLenzen Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 wow my bottom 4 is the bottom 4, how long can I continue this success????
Erestor Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 (edited) People complaining that 500 Miles and Tied Up made it over Paul’s other routines but then being responsible for cutting The Edge Of Glory, No Day But Today, Dum Dum, You will Find A Way etc I have no regrets in pushing Tied Up into the finals Edited July 15, 2024 by Erestor
FrogLenzen Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 Note that I mentioned only Makenzie duets in my comments, no ragrets
.Rei Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 The edge of glory, dum dum and you’ll find a way would be in my top 20 and I did not take part in those getting cut No day but today sucks though
totes4totes Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 hmmmm. I have a feeling my 16-18 choices may take longer to show up
