Contestants you didn't like on the show but liked post-idol

Who did you hate/dislike on the show, but ended up liking afterwards?

For me, I wouldn't say I hated Phillip Phillips, but I remember not wanting him to win. But I enjoyed his music after the show and he put out some catchy music. In hindsight now I think he deserved his win-something I didn't think at the time (but to be fair you can think of an argument for  win for any of the top 7 that year). I don't "stan" him or anything, but I would attend his concert if given the opportunity.

Phillip Phillips is the biggest example that applies to this for me. Still not a big fan but I have enjoyed a number of his songs in his career - where he was about like my 8th favorite of his original season.

Oh and Daniel Seavey too. I like some of his group's (Why Don't We) songs and he's much better in that group than his time on the show.

I'd say the big two are Lauren Alaina and Phillip Phillips. Found Lauren boring and mediocre for the most part on the show but she has really found her sound. I also didn't really like Phillip on season 11 but I've liked quite a few of his post-Idol songs.

Brooke wasn't really a favorite of mine in season 7 either but I enjoy her post-Idol music/country transition also.

Interestingly enough, Carrie and Scotty. Both of whom were my least favourite winners at the time of their wins but I’ve grown to enjoy their post-Idol music a lot and have even seen & met Scotty a few times.

To a lesser extent, Katie Stevens and Elliott Yamin. I didn’t really have any strong feelings on them on Idol but now I stan.

Gabby Barrett for sure. I didn’t like her at all on Idol but I really like her post-Idol music and have enjoyed seeing her be so successful. It’s nice to see any of the Idols do well outside of the show, even if I’m not personally a fan.
