The beginning was her weakest, but I loved the end of it. I agree that she had one of the weaker auditions in that stacked episode though. I agree on her battle and knockout. Her and Cam had my Top 2 knockouts. ❤️ Yeah, her and Dana stood out that night, especially when compared to the rest of Team Nick… 😬 I loved both of her finale performances, especially “The Chain.” That’s a fair placement.

Me too! 🙂 Looking at your signature, I think that has only happened with Noah Mac in S13.

My sig also hasn’t been updated in 3 years (last one was after S13), though there were quite a few seasons since where it was definitely different. And I forgot to mention that Noah was one of my S13 favorites in my response (he also had a lot of stans on here)

#2. Rachel Mac (Team Nick)

2021-TheVoice-S20-RACHEL-MAC-450X450-KO.jpg?impolicy=nbc_com&imwidth=340&imdensity=1
Just missing out on the top spot is the last remaining on Team Nick (in this and the actual season), the only female S20 finalist, and the contestant who had the biggest underdog/growth journey of the season. Watching Rachel throughout this season has been amazing and her growth from her audition to the  finale was insane. 😳 My journey with Rachel started off in a unique way (I guess that’s what you could call it :haha:) Her and Gean’s socials were the hardest to find. It took about a month after hearing about Rachel through sources to finally find her socials. Let me tell you though, it was 100% WORTH THE WAIT. The covers that were on Rachel’s Instagram account were some of my favorite pre-season covers for Season 20. Her cover of “Burning House” is what really pulled me in. I was drawn in by her gorgeous tone and I soon found myself listening to all her Instagram covers multiple times! Her tone and vibrato reminded me of Addison, one of my favorite contestants of all-time, plus she had Mac in her name, like Noah Mac, my other Season 13 favorite, so this was just a match made in heaven for me! 😍 The main issue with Rachel was that I didn’t really expect her to go far on the show and even mentioned this in one of my private chats (oh how wrong I was… :haha:) The main reason was because the sources weren’t too kind to Rachel’s audition and made it seem like it was really bad. However, Rachel ended up having a pretty solid audition. It was her weakest performance of the competition, but it was still solid, which is a testament to how much she has grown while being on the Voice. Rachel sang Patty Griffin’s “Let Him Fly” for her audition. This performance REALLY introduced us to Rachel’s vibrato, and the “really” is in caps for a reason. :haha: Rachel’s tone sounded gorgeous on the song, but her vibrato was a bit out of control, which might have been due to nerves. This song is a big one, so I commend Rachel for taking it on and doing a good enough job with it. One thing I will really credit Nick for (this is a rare moment for me guys :haha:) is seeing the potential in Rachel, and I am so happy that he was rewarded with her as his finalist after being able to see that. Nick was the only one to turn, so Rachel defaulted to his team. She still showed her love for another coach, Blake Shelton (I’m actually typing this on his birthday 🙂), after hilariously revealing that she made a slideshow for Blake in school. :haha: I go back to this audition to see Rachel’s humble beginnings on the Voice, and to see that funny interaction with Blake. It was one of the most wholesome things ever and it’s so rare to see a teen girl obsess over Blake and not Nick. :haha: Rachel really started to shine in her battle with Bradley, which was one of the best battles of the season and the only one to get a standing ovation from all four coaches! 🤩 The only bad thing about this battle was that it was in the last taping and none of the coaches had a steal available. :( Like I mentioned in Bradley’s write-up, Bradley was more solid vocally, but Rachel’s tone is what really won me over. Rachel exhibited way more control of her voice here, especially with her vibrato, and the growth from her audition to this battle was evident. This is where Rachel really started to emerge as a favorite of mine. I re-listened to this battle so many times and I really hope they get to record it. 🤞 My favorite part is probably the beginning where Rachel starts. She executed this part with such grace and class. Her floral dress was stunning too! Nick, with some persuasion from Blake, ended up going with Rachel, which I was happy to see. If anyone had doubts about whether or not that was a good decision, I’m sure those doubts were all erased after hearing Rachel’s flawless Knockout performance, which actually ended up being my favorite Knockout of the season (and part of the reason why I placed Rachel over Gihanna. 👀) At first, I preferred Cam’s Knockout, but after re-watching Rachel’s non-stop (literally, I couldn’t get it out of my head for DAYS), hers edged out on top. This was my favorite performance from Rachel (though she had other great ones in the lives) and it was mainly because this is where everything really came together for Rachel. Her vibrato wasn’t overused and was used in meaningful ways, and her tone really shined on this one as well. The thing that really impressed me was the sustained high note near the end of the performance. 🤯 I did not expect that AT ALL from Rachel and that was the moment where I really considered her a contender. She had range, power, tone, and flawless vibrato. This was my favorite performance of a stacked night and I was so happy to see Rachel rewarded with the Knockout win! 🙂 I initially had doubts about Nick letting go of his four-chair turn, but those doubts were all erased after this (and after the Playoffs performances… 😬) In the Playoffs, Rachel sang my favorite Kacey Musgraves song, “Rainbow” (yes, I know I’m basic 🙃) and killed it! I was so excited to see her tackle a country song because I knew it was a genre she was hoping to explore. Many had doubts about how Rachel would do live, which made me a bit nervous for her, but after “Rainbow,” I really became confident in her live singing abilities. First off, Rachel’s outfit for this performance was gorgeous and it might be my favorite outfit of the season! 🤩 This was a beautiful performance as well. This was definitely an emotional one for Rachel (I think she even dedicated it to her fans and called it an “anthem” for her fanbase, which just speaks volumes about her as a person. 🥺❤️), and she even got emotional near the end of the performance. While it wasn’t perfect vocally, she truly made me feel something, and the performance even ended up being my favorite from Team Nick that night! 🙂 I guess America thought so too as she was voted into the Top 9. :w00tbounce: Now, I will say that Rachel took a bit of a step back in her Semifinals performance of “Human.” This song wasn’t an exact fit for her and I don’t really think Nick knew what he was doing with this one… (I mean I think he was the one to compare Rachel to Billie Eilish, so… :? :haha:) Now, I do think IDF was too harsh on this one. There were some really great, powerful moments that should definitely be recognized. Her vibrato sounded GORGEOUS on the song and really shined on the more intimate parts. The thing I loved about this performance the most though was that it was so powerful. The intimate parts were so emotionally gripping and the high energy parts were also powerful because of the amount of range and power that Rachel exhibited in her voice. Say what you want about the vocals, but the important thing about this one was the message, and I’d say Rachel was able to convey that well. Rachel even smiled a bit at the end, which I hope meant that she was content with the performance. 🙂 This performance ended up being my favorite from Team Nick that night (:ph34rwave:) and America agreed once again, sending her through to the finale. Before I forget though, I want to talk about Rachel’s group performance with Gih and Jordan. This is pretty much a copy/paste comment from Gih’s write-up but Rachel’s solo parts were really good, while the harmonies were a bit lacking. Her vibrato sounded nice here, especially on her solo parts. I think she forgot some lyrics at the beginning of her first solo part, but we’ll just ignore that and move on to my thoughts on her making the finale… :haha: Rachel was the only female finalist this season and the first female one chair to ever make the finale. 😮 Rachel making the finale was huge for me for two reasons: one, because I would have never guessed that she would be in the finale after only turning one chair after a performance that needed a lot of improvement and two, because after all of Nick’s bad decisions throughout the season, he still managed to end up with a great finalist (his coaching “style” reminds me of Anne-Marie’s - it’s basically “who cares about the journey, it’s all about the destination” :haha:.) Also, me having Cam and Rachel (my Top 2 of the season, even though I didn’t really know it at the time lol) in the finale was huge and hasn’t happened since I think Season 10 with Alisan and Hannah (and even that one is cloudy because Mary Sarah exists and I didn’t have a ranking list back in Season 10 lol.) Rachel’s finale performances are also the main reason why she is above Gihanna. I loved them both, and the fact that she had more performances gave her a slight edge over Gih (like I said though, both are amazing! ❤️) Rachel sang Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance” for her ballad song. First of all, her outfit for this performance put her “Rainbow” outfit in serious competition for my favorite outfit of the season! :haha: The crown and dress were gorgeous. 🤩 Rachel sounded beautiful here and this might be the performance from Rachel that I felt the most connected to. Her touching dedication letter in the beginning and her vocal choices (the intimate parts and that sustained note near the end were amazing) really made this one of my favorite performances of the night and from Rachel’s run on the show (also, my favorites always slay this song - Emily Ann, Keisha, and now Rachel ) Now, I really only planned on voting for Cam that night, but Rachel’s up-tempo performance is what forced me to open up the app again and vote for her. :haha: Rachel sang “The Chain” and slayed!!! This ended up being one of my favorite performances from Rachel (probably my second favorite behind “Foolish Games”.) She brought so much power and passion and she dominated the stage in a way that I had never seen before. The hat throw was iconic (I see she’s taking after Queen Dana  and the ending was vocal slayage. This performance was Rachel’s last “competition performance” and she most definitely ended on a high note. If you compare this to her blind, I guarantee you will question if the two singers are the same person. :haha: Before I talk about her placement, I just want to acknowledge her amazing coach-contestant performance with Nick. I usually don’t mention these in the write-ups, but this one was just so extraordinary that I just had to. ❤️ This was by far one of Nick’s best live vocals and Rachel sounded fantastic as always. The two made for a great duet pairing and I’d say they did justice to that Foo Fighters’ song. I really wanted a Cam and Rachel Top 2 (at least I got it here lol), but I had a feeling that Rachel would miss out. This ended up being the case, but Rachel ended up placing in 4th, which was one place higher than I expected her to, so I was pretty content with that. 🙂 Rachel visited her fan thread shortly after the finale (I kind of expected her to after Gihanna and Carolina did lol) and she was so sweet. ☺️ She even gave us the iconic “muah.” 🤩 Rachel’s relationship with the other contestants, especially Zae (*flashbacks to their chaotic Roblox livestream* :haha:) was so cool to see. 🥺❤️ I’m glad she was able to make some lasting friends from this experience! Also, for those wanting a breakdown… I preferred Rachel to Gihanna in every round they were both in except blinds and Semis. Rachel’s finale performances are what really brought her to this deserved 2nd place. Rachel will forever be one of my favorite Voice contestants of all-time. Her growth arc, emotional performances, and vocal power all made for one of my favorite runs in Voice history. She is one of a kind and I am so interested to see which direction she will take with her post-show career. 🙂
Clue: Nothing for the legend himself? (Rachel gave some special recognition to all the coaches except John Legend in her blind audition segment: she made a powerpoint for Blake, included Kelly’s “Behind These Hazel Eyes” as her favorite song on her trivia image, and joined Team Nick.)

This does mean that Cam is my favorite of the season. I hope to have his write-up posted by the end of the day, but if not, it should be out tomorrow. 🙂

Does anyone have a link to the livestream? I'm curious about what went down 😆

Here they are. ❤️

It’s crazy that they were doing this Livestream since before the battles were taped, and they ended up being Knockout partners. I went onto one or two of their IG lives before the season started, and I remember a story about a double chicken sandwich.

Also because I told Zae that I met the same Voice alum as him (that got him to join the show), and their journeys on the show ended up being similar

Ahhh that was fun to watch

Flee the facility, I love that game

Crazy enough, around April when the blinds finished airing, Zae was one of my favorites post blinds and I was bored on Roblox and was randomly searching the names of my favorites from the blinds in "people". Sure enough, zaeromeo came out and he had a default avatar with nobody friended at the time so I assumed it was some random account made by nobody in particular. Coincidentally, that WAS Zae's roblox account as seen from the video so my mind is blown 🤯🤯🤯

He really impressed me with his blind. Oh wow! 😂😂😂

Here’s the clue for #2…

-Nothing for the legend himself?

I think it's Rachel because he said her and Bradley's battle was PERFECT. And he's usually the one on the panel who likes giving constructive criticism.

Hmm… that’s not quite what I was going for with the clue, but good guess! ;)

I love your writeups so much. They're always so well thought out and you manage to outline the flaws and strengths of the contestants fairly.

Oooh, my reasoning was wrong, but Cam being your #1 is the only prediction I got right from your top 3. 🤣

Amazing writeup (that you clearly put a lot of thought into), I 100% on everything (except her not being first :haha:). Rachel will forever be iconic—the hats, the hat toss, her knockout, her playoffs performance, her friendship with Zae, her infectious kindness, literally everything about her. I'm so glad to see she's this high on your ranking! I didn't expect she would be cause I honestly didn't know you were a Rachel fan, but I'm so glad to see this! Honestly, reading through this has made me question a little bit if I *would* put Gihanna first, since although Gihanna was my favorite from the beginning, Rachel kept getting better and better and better at such a rapid rate. Maybe for now I'll say they're tied for first 👀

And LOL I didn't realize that her hat toss was parallel to Dana's T17 hat toss :haha:, iconic #TeamNickGoals

Interesting! They're all so talented; I can see why they'd be your top 5!

I just went through my personal spreadsheet for ranking, and I think my top 5 based on general vibe would be:

1. Gihanna

2. Rachel

3. Carolina

4. Anna

5. Cam

LOL looks like my top 5 is exactly BK's, with the ordering switched around

And my top 5 based on a not-fully-completed ranking spreadsheet cause I got lazy at the end is:

1. Cam

2. Gihanna

3. Anna

4. Carolina

5. Corey

[It's a crime that Rachel isn't in my T5 based on rankings, but if I removed her blind, she'd be second 🙂

#1. Cam Anthony (Team Blake)

Taking the top spot in this ranking list is the winner of Season 20, Cam Anthony! Cam was the most consistent contestant this season. Every round was a hit, and he never missed. He brought so much energy and passion to every one of his performances, which is something that is really hard to do! Cam is one of the best contestants to ever step on the Voice stage, and I really mean that. He is my second favorite winner behind Danielle Bradbery, who will probably never be topped, and my second favorite Voice contestant behind Danielle, meaning he was able to surpass Noah Mac. 😮 Cam’s extraordinary gift was undeniable and the fact that he was only 19 when he did all that is mind-boggling! 😳 The funny thing about Cam though, which makes his #1 placement very different from Cami’s last season (ooh, look at me with the Cams in the top spot two seasons in a row 😮) is that I wasn’t too big on him pre-season. Don’t get me wrong, I loved his pre-season covers, especially “Jealous” and his “Ain’t No Sunshine” performance from Showtime at the Apollo, but I just never really got invested in him. I did consider making his fan thread though, but someone made it before I got the chance to (I’m so glad @season1 was able to take it over! :))) Cam quickly became one of my favorites of the season after his blind aired though (also, thank you to the Voice for uploading his compilation video so I don’t have to constantly click between videos :haha:) His blind, along with Carolina’s, were my Top 2 for a few episodes, until Lindsay’s came along. :haha: Cam sang “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith and let me tell you, I was OBSESSED with the snippet of this that they had in a YouTube ad and I begged the YouTube algorithm to give me that one ad that I wouldn’t skip. :haha: Everything about this performance was just so amazing. Cam killed it vocally. He did so much with his voice, showed off its many different textures, and in my opinion, deserved a four chair turn (I’m really not sure what Kelly was thinking there, but I think it still worked out pretty well for Cam in the end. 😏 Nick used his block on John for this one, but it went to waste after Cam ended up going with Blake, which was probably the smartest coach pick of the season. Blake made Cam a huge promise: he said that he would not turn for anyone in Cam’s lane, if he picked him, and it was so nice to see Blake fulfill that promise throughout the blinds. Cam is a beast of a vocalist and it’s crazy to think that his blind audition was only the tip of the iceberg. This performance along with Lindsay’s audition constantly battle it out for Bk’s favorite audition of the season (Lindsay is winning right now, but that might change in a week :haha: Cam moved on to the Battles on Team Blake and a lot of people, including some of the contestants, predicted him to be paired with Keegan. However, Cam was instead paired with Emma (another one of my pre-season favorites) and the pairing they created here was so beautiful. 🥺❤️ Most battle partners just rehearse for the battle and pray that their partner gets stolen, but Cam and Emma went beyond that. They spent one whole day of rehearsal getting to know each other in order to create an authentic duet. I think this really made Emma feel more comfortable on stage, and it showed in her performance. It was so nice to see that one of my favorite contestants of the season had a kind heart too. ❤️ I think it was after Cam’s battle that I had a feeling he was on the trajectory for favorite contestant of the season. Cam sounded amazing in his battle, but the thing that I really liked about Cam in this one was his energy on stage (SO MUCH GIF POTENTIAL!! :haha:) He was vibing to the song and looked so comfortable up there. This performance really made me want to see Cam perform live, which is something that I really hope I get the opportunity to do one day. 🤞 Also, the run on “might never get there” (I think those are the lyrics) was insane and I loved Kelsea’s reaction to it. :haha: All the other coaches looked like they were hoping Blake would pick Emma so they could all steal Cam (there’s no way Blake would have done that though…) :haha: Blake ended up picking Cam and he saved Emma, which I was so happy to see, since I love both. 🙂 Cam’s reaction to Emma getting saved was so sweet and further supported the strong bond that they formed after being battle partners. Now, my favorite pre-live performance from Cam came in the Knockouts where he sang Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good.” Cam’s outfit was a slayage outfit, so I knew something good was coming and oh boy was I right. :haha: This performance sent chills throughout my entire body! 🤯 Cam SANG this song. His vocal choices were executed perfectly and the fact that he learned how to scat only a few days before and executed the scatting so flawlessly during the performance is mindblowing! 🤯 This truly showed me how great of a vocalist Cam is and was my favorite Knockout for a bit until it was overthrown by Rachel’s “Foolish Games” (it is still my second favorite though 😘) A few people accused Cam of oversinging in this performance and I honestly didn’t see it. All his vocal choices felt necessary, and to me, allowed his version to stand out among the many great covers of the song that are out there. Cam was chosen as the winner of his Knockout and moved on to Playoffs, where he continued to slay! The lives really allowed Cam to show us how amazing of a live singer he is. His studios were always solid vocally, but they could never match the passion and excitement that came with his live performances. Cam sang “Take Me To Church” in the Playoffs, which I thought was a great pick for him! Some had doubts about it on here, but I knew he would slay, and I was definitely right about that one! This ended up being my favorite performance of the night and also contained my favorite outfit from Cam’s run! :haha: Cam slayed vocally and some of the things he was doing with his voice were things that experienced singers even struggle to do live. I was very impressed with this performance because it captured the vocal slayage of the studio and combined it with the passion and stage presence that Cam always brings. 🤩 He even got to sing the song on Ellen after his win! 🙂 America also liked this one and they voted Cam into the Top 9, where Cam had another moment on the Voice stage. Cam’s studio of “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” (wow, that’s a long title :haha:) is breathtaking and remains one of my favorite studios of the season. It might even be my favorite studio from Cam! I was so happy to see Cam tackle a more emotional song because that was the one thing he hadn’t really done up until that point. This song is so great because, if done well, it allows the artist to showcase their vocal ability and emotional delivery. Cam was able to execute both, and very well at that. The runs that Cam executed in this performance were INSANE! 😳 have chills all over after just listening to it! 🤯 The fact that he started out acapella and still sounded amazing is just a testament to how great of a live singer he is. Most of all though, with this performance, I finally felt some emotion from Cam. He used his runs to tell a story and they helped keep me invested and engaged. Overall, I thought this was a home run for Cam and I was happy to see him finally get the chance to do an emotional ballad. Cam also sounded great in his trio performance with Corey and Kenzie (I remember thinking this trio would be the Top 3 :haha: I guess I was pretty close…) Cam owned the stage in this one and it was nice to see this more fun side of Cam and Cam’s emotional side (from his solo performance) all in one night! One thing that was consistent between the two performances was how flawlessly Cam executed the runs and other vocal tricks. I’m telling you- he NEVER misses! :haha: America also loved both performances and voted Cam into the finale where he gave my favorite performance from him (the king is still impressing in the finale! 🤩) For his up-tempo performance, Cam sang Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead Or Alive.” I was a little nervous about this one for Cam and while it wasn’t my favorite performance from him, he still killed it vocally (like I said, the king never misses! 😌) Cam actually covered this when he was younger so it was nice to see this full-circle moment happen on the Voice stage. I really liked the contrast between the red mic and Cam’s black outfit in this one. ❤️🖤 I really enjoyed Cam’s vocal choices in this one and felt that they made the performance more interesting and engaging for the viewer. This was a good one from Cam, but his ballad performance of “Stand Up” was where he really shined! :w00tbounce: Cam’s studio of this was, as always, vocally flawless, but he took this one to a whole different level on that stage. Willie Spence from American Idol also sang this song during the finale, and while both versions were great, I think I would give the edge to Cam. Part of the reason why I love Cam’s version so much is because he was so fun to watch. The stage set-up was amazing and the background dancers and singers all helped to make the performance as empowering as it was. Cam’s movement around the stage kept me engaged and made me question if this was really the “ballad” theme (which is a good thing, by the way! :haha:) Everything about the performance was just so empowering (the hand motions, lyrics, etc.), especially when paired with Cam’s moving letter, which might be the most empowering message I have ever seen presented on the Voice (and I was 100% here for it!) Cam hit so many home runs during his run on the show, but this was something more. This wasn’t just about a good performance, it was about conveying an empowering message, and Cam executed that perfectly! Despite this amazing performance, I was still nervous for Cam on finale results night. I thought Kenzie would end up winning the show, so I prepared myself for that. When Carson announced Cam as the winner I was stunned and filled with joy! 🥰 A lot of the other contestants seemed to feel that way too, with Anna Grace even tearing up after Cam won the Voice. The amount of support that Cam got from the other contestants after his win was overwhelming and just goes to show how many strong bonds he formed with the cast after practically living with them for months. :haha: This cast was truly a special one and to see them all united and happy after Cam’s win was one of the most fulfilling things to see as a Voice fan. 🥺❤️This brings me to another reason why I love Cam so much: he is one of the kindest, most genuine people I have ever “met.” He is so inviting and friendly whenever he talks to people and his personality is so calming, which is something that I even felt when MESSAGING him on Instagram. 😮 Cam also followed me on Instagram after he saw my voting poster for him and I flipped (again, I wish I filmed the reaction, but those things happen at random times :haha:) That meant the world to me, and while I tried not to let that influence my rankings, it probably did in the long run… I mean, he’s my second favorite Voice contestant of all-time so I think I should be rightfully affected by the follow. :haha: Anyway, following and supporting Cam throughout the season has been a blast and I am so excited for his post-show career (you better treat him and Carter well, Republic!!!!) After getting two winners who were in my Top 2 of the season, two seasons in a row, I can only hope for that same luck in Season 21. :haha: I know he probably isn’t reading this, but I just wanted to thank Cam for not only slaying every week, but for being an inspiration and representing Season 20 of the Voice so darn well!

  • Bk1234 changed the title to Bk1234's The Voice Season 20 Contestant Ranking List (#1 and #2 Posted!!!)

Also, for those wondering, this was going to be Cam’s clue…

-A full-circle moment with a past American Idol judge.

It’s a reference to Cam going back on the Ellen Show after his Voice win and the fact that Ellen was a judge on American Idol.
