Seems kinda unfair to have legitimately famous singers competing on the show though.

Many famous singers competes on Eurovision so this is not much different.

ahh I never watched it but it seems like they would have an unfair advantage though.

Not really as they represent a country. The status means nothing.

It seriously all about geopolitics, you will give your points to the state or country closest to you.

interesting  that Jewel is a contestant since she just won the last season of The Masked Singer back in December . both shows are on different networks as well so it is surprising she was allowed to be on the song contest.

me  i am just wondering why all your 50 diffrent stats not making your own  "national selectiom"

that would be amazing if you did

just like many of us   EBU members do

when we find our finalists to ESC 2022

then we make  "national selection"

Yay, we finally have some concrete details about the show!

First glance, I think Kentucky and Connecticut have good chances of taking the whole thing, assuming we have the typical reality singing show audience demo watching.

Interested to see Justin Jesso and Judd Hoos. Hope they get good songs.

Tennessee's representative.... very underwhelming, considering they have a huge pool of artists to choose from.

Really anxious to hear the songs now!

There will be 3 ways to vote: NBC website, app, and TikTok (yes, they said that TikTok will be an important part of the voting. Thanks NBC)

11 songs will perform on March 21 (including them) and 4 will move on (which means 5 qualifier weeks with 4 moving on in each, leading to 2 semis of 10 and the final)

The voting WILL follow the Eurovision format, with each state giving their own ranked votes. Hearing this was a massive relief. They also said that each individual voter will rank all the songs when they vote, so it’ll basically be the ESC jury voting format for the televote as well (which I think is a very good thing)

They said there are some very pro people working on the staging

Those who make it to round 2 get custom in-ear pieces

That was all the important information. They also said they were recruited for the show and submitted multiple songs, and Ready To Go was chosen by the producers. They will be going to LA a week before the show, so we’ll be able to figure out the week 1 contestants soon.

Q&A

How do viewers vote on American Song Contest?

Stay tuned for a full breakdown on the voting process, but Silverman says, "We actually have an entire mechanism that protects population versus population." And Lenhoff adds, "Everybody competes on equal terms. So it means that every single state has its own equal voting power.  That goes with the territories, too.  So whoever wins the popular vote in California gets 12 points, but whoever wins the popular vote in Guam also gets 12 points.  So to win this competition, you need to find support in as many states and territories as possible. You need to find a broad base."

Thank you for keeping us updated. I am excited for the show and since it is all live that would be really cool.
