My theory is that, if this twist is true, this years Top 24 will be whittled down to 12 and perform on April 18. One person will be eliminated at the end of the episode. On Monday April 19, the ten from last year will perform and one person will be eliminated. The groups will continue to alternate performing on Sundays/Mondays until they eventually merge. This will make it so that the contestants don't each have to perform two songs each week.

I like your theory. This seems like a better format with separate competitions on separate nights. Still, I agree with some users that this attempt to redo last season really discredits Just Sam. Plus, it's sending a message to the current Top 24 that it won't even matter if they win - if the show does not like the outcome, they can plan a redo next season.

Guys, stop bashing this idea when we don’t even know how it’s going to work. Maybe they’ll only let one through (which one suck because it would probably be Arthur.) I think it’s nice to give these contestants an opportunity to perform on stage.

Two things:

1 - Why would they want to discredit Just Sam? I'm totally out of the loop, did something happen?

2 - This idea is awful in any way, shape or form. Not only is it super unfair for this year's contestants, but also this year's batch is so much better than last year's, it completely mops the floor with them, so it would be sad to lose great talents from this season to mediocre ones from last season.

disagree completely on this one. last year was more talented and more experienced than half of the ones in the top 24. and it is not their fault that the season got cancelled due to a worldwide pandemic. so this is the best solution.

my theory is that after top 24 perform and cut to top 10/12 then the 10 from season 18 will compete for 2 spots in top 12/14.

yes it is not fair to arthur but I don't think the judges will advance him.

sam will probably perform on disney week.

still hoping the 4 who were signed will be invited to perform as well.

Grace mops the floos with everyone from last season. Same with Willie, Cassandra, Alyssa, Jason.... And lots of other interesting and talented singers this season.

Both groups are even imo. We haven’t seen either perform live on the show, so I’d wait till we get to here that before judging talent.

Do you think the two wildcards in the Top 12 are for these return contestants?

probably yes. this my theory. the 2 spots to fill the top 12 will come from a wildcard performance of season 18...

grace is a good singer but can't see her as relevant recording artist (tried listening to her music on spotify.. and it is NOT good!).  as for the others their inexperience scream loud that season 18 will wipe the floor with THEM. experience is key. love that twist. it will challenge everyone to work harder especially if arthur is competing again.. :devilwave:

In this case, the winner will most likely be someone from last season, given they already have established fanbases

I don’t think the basis audience is going to remember *checks notes* Cyniah Elise. :haha:

Declined Offer Or Not Offered
Jonny West - Top 5
Jovin Webb - Top 11
Sophia James/Wackerman - Top 7
Kimmy Gabriela - Top 20
Lauren Spencer-Smith - Top 20

wonder why they weren't invited or declined.. they were more interesting than some of the 10 who do get a second chance..

Jovin is past the age limit now, and Sophia might have some sort of publishing deal that prevented her from returning.

Jonny probably just didn’t want to.

good guess.  had no idea that sophia have a publishing deal. good for her. she also had an incredible makeover.

lauren is living in canada so this could it. kimmy gabriela is the last to figure out but I think she is working on something..

this might just be me getting my hopes up, but if the judges have any involvement with picking who advances in this twist, I wouldnt be surprised if they reject Arthur. They could say something like "You are much bigger than what we have to offer on the Idol stage and we want you to explore yourself", or maybe they genuinely wont think hes improved or differed from last season. Again, this is just wishful thinking lol.

If the judges are picking, then Louis is a shoo-in. :bobo:
