Any performances you guys would nominate in this new era of Idol?

Also, 2 pages and not one mention of Joshua ledet's "it's a man's man's world"

One of the greatest performances on any singing competition and one of the most soulful singers I've ever heard.

I was just going to comment that!

It's a Man's World - Josh Ledet

When A Man Loves a Woman - Josh Ledet

pretty much anything he ever sang

My personal favorite - "It's All Wrong but it's Alright" - Michael Johns

Leah Marlene's "Heal" is thee performance of the ABC era imo. It made people realize that she had a serious/emotional side to her, which was surprising at that point since her edit was focused around her being very silly and energetic. Without that performance, I doubt she gets anywhere close to Top 3. I also don't think any other contestant in the ABC era had a performance that imapcted their trajectory on the show like that.

Jessica Sanchez - And I'm Telling You

Joshua Ledet - When A Man Loves A Woman

David Cook - Billie Jean

Haley Reinheart - House of the Rising Sun

Sonika Vaid - Bring me Back to Life

Kelly Clarkson - Natural Woman

Top of my head

Hmmm…

Leah Marlene - Heal, Separate Ways, Sanctuary

Maddie Poppe - Nothing Compares 2 U

Jay Copeland - Lilac Wine

Casey Bishop - Over The Rainbow, Live Wire

Willie Spence - Stand Up

I’m sure there are others but these are the ones that came to mind

I started making a longer list after my last message and literally all of these were on it (besides Sanctuary) :giggle:

I'd also add Grace Kinstler's "When We Were Young" and "Father"!

Can’t believe that got Carly sent home smh

A lot of people probably didn’t vote for her because they thought the lyrics were “blasphemous”, not realizing it’s being sung from Judas’ POV. I vaguely remember some backlash from religious people but that was 15 years ago before Facebook lol, so I can’t really remember.

Her version of “Here You Come Again” was extraordinary as well.

In the new era:

Omg yess. I didn't really care for it when I first watched it on the show, but after going to the S16 tour and hearing it LIVE, it became my fave performance of the season tbh 🫣

Jay's Lilac Wine from last year is the only ABC-era performance that holds a candle to the highlights from the FOX era.

The song choice didn't really do anything. Carly went home at the Top 6 because she wasn't too popular with the voters that season. I think she would've gone home that week regardless of what ALW song she did considering everything else that happened that week.
