I haven't read the books, but her friend told her that after the first book the stories go on about other Bridgerton family members, like they each will get their turn. I am sure they would do the same for each season, so Simon would have been a minor character, but still there. I've seen some fans try to explain the announcement with that reasoning that Simon isn't featured much in the following books, but... if that was the case for him "leaving the show", there wouldn't be any need for an announcement. The fact that all this is happening tells me that they did originally plan to have him play a bigger role than the book character. To support that - less than a week before the news, I read an interview about the planned storyline for Daphne & Simon in season 2, which was not something from the book. So, I'm sure they wanted to feature them more in the show - both due to the fan demand and because this is how it was in season 1. If the new storyline was too much for Rege, they could have just kept the Simon appearance true to the book. I guess they'll just have it that way or still go through with the plan, just without ever showing Simon. It just all really angers me, to be honest. There's a really fun part in the second book where Daphne & Simon join some of her other siblings (and Anthony's love interest + her sister) for a family tradition game outside. It's my favorite and now it will be ruined.
