Oh yeah, I forgot about these. I would also add Addison’s version to my list. The ultimate emoter finally made herself get emotional. 😅

Ok, let's do this. I'll do my favorite country performance by season, starting with Season 5:

- Season 5: "I Still Believe in You" by Cole Vosbury (This one is the season with practically no country artists after the Playoffs, but i remember enjoying that particular performance a lot, Season 5 is an iconic one)

- Season 6: "You Lie" by Audra McLaughlin

- Season 7: "Nobody Knows" by James David Carter

- Season 8: "Tennessee Whiskey" by Meghan Linsay

- Season 9: "Burning House" by Emily Ann Roberts

- Season 10: "Love Has No Pride" by Adam Wakefield

- Season 11: "Love Can Build a Bridge" by Sundance Head"

- Season 12: "Ghost in this House" by Lauren Duski.

- Season 13: "It Matters To Me" by Keisha Renee

- Season 14: "Red" by Spensha Baker

HM: "Here Comes Goodbye" by Brynn Cartelli

- Season 15: "Space Cowboy" by Chevel Shepherd

HM: "In Case You Didn't Know" by Kirk Hay

- Season 16: "I Want To Be Loved Like That" by Gyth Rigdon (I can't believe i just put Gyth in a list of "Favorite performances" 🤭)

- Season 17: "Cover Me Up" by Jake Hoot

- Season 18: "Top of the World" by Meghan Danielle and Samantha Howell

- Season 19: "Humble and Kind" by Jim Ranger

HM: "There Goes My Life" by Ben Allen.

I've always considered Addison's "Tennessee Rain" to be a country performance.  That's prolly my favorite.

Anything that Lauren or Chevel did would also be high on the list.

Enid Ortiz & Valerie Ponzio - Love Triangle

Jackie Verna - American Honey

Taryn & WTW - Little White Church

Enid and Valerie's battle was so amazing. I'm so glad that was the one season NBC randomly decided to give us the full version of montages, like that battle and others like Josh vs. Nala and Micah vs. Andrea as well. Still, I wish we could've heard the judges' comments to see how everyone reacted to a last-minute one-chair turn beating out a 4 chair turn.

Disclaimer: This is not the order of my favorites, just the order in which they came to mind.

1. Jake Hoot - Cover me up (Jason Isbell)

I know I'm very biased when it comes to Jason Isbell, but Hoot really gave a hell of a performance. Also, some of his song choices were amazing. "Always on my mind" suring the battles... Amazed by Lonestar in the finale. He even performed Reba, which was a plus. Kelly has an amazing taste for country. Just saying.

2. Like a Cowboy - Dexter Roberts.

From all the season 16 country guys, he was the only one I could actually stand. And his blind was very powerful, compared to the rest of the country guys.

3. Coal miner's daughter - Hannah Kay.

There were some problems with her performance, of course. But this song is such a Leviathan and I think a lot of country singers should remember Loretta Lynn, once in a while. Also, the way she shut up Adam was marvelous. It was a shame she had to sing Dan & Shay with a random country guy during the battles and lost, in such a heavy season for the genre.

4. Chevel Shepherd - Little White Church.

It was the cutest/funniest/sweetest/country thing EVER to witness that tiny fairy belting "no more calling me baby/No more loving like crazy/Till you take me down (take me down) to the little white church/ I ain't gonna have your baby". And she did it with such power and confidence. Hats off, I'd never be able to pull off those lyrics.

5. God's Country - Rose Short

This song now belongs to Rose Short. Bye.

Ps: while writing this, Youtube recommended me Gyth's patriotic song and I feel insulted by the algorithm.

Chevel Shepherd - Blue

Jason is one of the finest songwriters on the planet...no bias detected.

I'm sure you were insulted but look on the bright side.  AI is not so smart that we'll be working for it anytime soon.

My gosh, I loved your comment. Stanning Isbell, followed by a SCI-FI-ISH joke it's too much for my heart.

Anyway, I do think the show should use a little more of Isbell. I don't think the rights to his songs are too expensive and his lyrics would create some powerful moments. Just now I was listening to "The Problem" (amanda shires feat Jason isbell) and thinking how much of an amazing battle would it be. Controversial for some folks, but powerful.

I wonder if @Misirlouhas any thoughts about this.

Isbell definitely has some powerful lyrics, and his songs lend themselves to spaces where a good vocalist covering him can shine (Jake Hoot for example). I disagree with him on several aspects outside of music, but "Southeastern" is a fantastic album.

As for that song, I hadn´t listened to it, so I just checked it out, and yeah, it´s a very controversial topic. Plus, I don´t think any two vocalists could necessarily connect with it, it would just feel like an overehearsed acting performance, since I´m sure it wouldn´t have the same effect.

I think "If We Were Vampires" would be a better song for a battle, with the right vocalists, of course.

I love Jason Isbell! I've been meaning to get into more of his work, but I've only listened to his last 3 albums so far (Something More Than Free, The Nashville Sound, Reunions)

As for a song of his that could work on the show, I'm not exactly sure because I haven't heard many as vocally big as "Cover Me Up", but I do love "If We Were Vampires" and it could make for an emotional moment.

By the way, I would love a good country/rock guy to take on Sturgill on the show.

Oh, definitely. I remember we talked about Jordan Matthew Young doing it. I don't think you agreed, but Sturgill is an amazing pick and an audition with anything from Metamodern Sounds would be great, but I wonder about minivan, though. I feel like Isbell can be more minivan friendly in some songs (If we were vampires, for instance).

Well...under my Avatar is says Location: The Iodine State....that's from Palmetto Rose...“Lord let me die in the Iodine State.   I'm a stan.

The problem I see with just about anyone covering Jason is no one can match his tone so they will have to really dive in to alternate phrasing to make it work.

His tone lives here....
