I haven’t ever followed the show this closely, but based on what I’ve read here it seems that Abi has come out of the blocks way faster than any winner in a long time. Within a couple of months, she’s released a single and headlined a nearly full arena.

Iam, the winner before Abi hasn't had much post-Idol success. However, he was very busy right off of Idol. By the end of July the season he won, he had already toured most of his dates of a 10+ city tour. I know he didn't headline any arenas, but Iam did tour internationally. He also had some high profile gigs (Ex. MLB Home Run Derby). From what I remember he released a duet w/James Blunt around July-August & his new single "Why Kiki" by Sep.

Keep in mind that when artists are signed to labels, the timetable to release music is not up to them. It is up to the label. That's why sometimes some Idol alums have waited for awhile to release music. Since it seems like Abi isn't signed except to Groundwork, she doesn't have this problem as much. She also likely has more control as an independent artist what to sing. An independent artist can still get good opportunities. The problem is playlisting on streaming platforms, high profile touring opportunities, etc. are usually dependent on labels &/or well known management within the industry. That's also why a good social media presence is so important for indie/unsigned artists.

Like I said I didn’t follow the show this way before. I really just meant in the first  couple of months.  Totally agree that Abi’s gotta get a mainstream hit in her first EP/Album to keep pace with the impact 23 had for Chayce.

I’m mostly impressed that she put on a legit, full concert of 80% originals a couple of months after winning and just 7-8 months removed from complete obscurity.  Her pace has been furious so far. I do expect a lull now though, and the streaming numbers must come up with future releases for sure.

How has her pace been furious so far?  Others have released new music, done shows.  A hometown show is not a realistic benchmark of her audience draw.

I’m not trying to die on this hill. Could be that I’ve gotten the wrong impression from reading around that most recent contestants get off to slow starts.

I think I’m most impressed that she played 16 originals, many if not most with a full band arrangement, in one night about 2 months after the show ended. She has a full, dynamic headlining set ready to go now. We’re not talking about special guest appearances or ensemble shows. This might not be completely unique for recent winners, but it is undeniably impressive for someone who started where she did when she auditioned.

Now, whether she gets to use it and to how many people is the next question.

Will’s new single is under 19 Recordings.

Song is OK. It’s not the one I thought I was. There’s another original I heard that I liked a lot more. I don’t think this one will move the needle much.

I don’t know why I care about this now because I never used to, but I just can’t get into a song if I know the singer didn’t write it. Or at least in this specific case, it’s just not believable from Will.  Maybe this was the label’s choice

I’m obviously an Abi stan, but I’m rooting for Will too because he genuinely seems like a great person.

Like I said, the song is fine. It’s just not something I can see taking off, but it’s good enough to be on album. It’s an attempt to be more modern sounding, yet maintain his country rock edge. He has better unreleased material than this, but the label calls the shots. His fanbase will like it enough.

Yes, the streaming numbers aren’t good so far and the concert was in her home town. Valid reasons to temper excitement. But she will also have at least an EP out in the fall if not a full album.

I suspect her idol single was written/chosen with motives other than shooting for a hit and though I really like Peppermint Sky it was probably rushed out to coincide with the concert. She has songs more suited to mainstream success in the hopper and may be saving them for the album.

I also think she has the potential to organically generate buzz with her live performances. She’s captivating in a unique way.

Ultimately, I don’t think she’s on the route to being a mega pop star, I think she’s going to end up being a well respected singer and musician with a slow burn and decent commercial success.

Way too early and barely informed prognostications from an obsessed fan…

I think this is reasonable expectations for Abi. I'm reading general Idol topics on Reddit & some people are REALLY passionate about Abi. Fans saying she has one of the best Idol voices ever & she'll be as big as (or 3rd behind) Kelly Clarkson & Carrie is a bit rich. As someone who is just recently catching up w/ her performances, I think Abi is a great singer. However, I'm not quite connected w/ her emotionally as I expected given the sizable buzz around her. I have not watched her backstory or searched for it; Only stumbling on bits & pieces of it. Watching it certainly could influence my emotions. Rewatching dance show performances w/ backstory & their journey did change my emotions before. Just watching Abi's performances, I just get this Disney princess feel about it. Nothing wrong that style; Just doesn't scream hip relevant recording artist to me. I see Abi having a career similar to Idina Menzel; Some Broadway, part recording artist, some singing in commercials, & tv/movie soundtracks/background. If Abi was on season 11 (perhaps even 12?) or earlier, I think she'll be as successful as a recording artist as Jordin Sparks. However, in season 22 w/ around 6 million viewers, this would be tough. Regardless, Abi will have a very solid career in the industry.

@nigelsimon, it’s great to get a perspective on Abi unattached to any emotions developed by watching the show.  I can’t explain why I’ve been so captivated with her. She’s obviously a great singer, but I’ve seen many of those on Idol and I’ve never rooted so hard for anyone else.  The mixture of her tone, style, and personality just hits me square in the feels.

I loved Megan Danielle last year but haven’t followed her since. Yet, I almost flew across the county to see Abis first show and am definitely seeing her on tour no matter how far I have to travel.

I’ve heard most of her original stuff from videos of her shows and I’m in love with half and really don’t like the other half. She’s straddling the line between pop rock and Taylor Swifty type stuff. You can guess which one I like.

My biggest complaint so far is that I don’t think she writes to her wheelhouse enough. Her first single “It’s All Love” is a great example. She’s an incredible singer and the verses in her first song are damn near spoken word??? The new single is closer to what I’m hoping for, though, and she has 3-4 songs that I think have mainstream potential.

You seem like a level headed fan. Continue being a big Abi fan & keep supporting her. Just don't ever become one of those fans that think other's opinions are wrong. Probably back in the day there were people that didn't like Whitney, Mariah, or Celine; And today, there's plenty of people that don't like Adele, Ariana, or T.Swift.

Kaeyra is signed to Warner Music and has landed a Top 10 hit in Poland

Great news for her! It's really tough for pop girls to make it far on Idol w/ that sexy beautiful fierce look. The main demo much prefers that wholesome girl next door look. I'm glad that Idol disappointment didn't discourage her dreams at all.

Luckily in Poland it's quite the opposite - she looks exactly how they want their pop girls to be :haha:. Hopefully she can get some more success in Europe overall though.

Anyways I'm here for her out-streaming most recent winners already 👏
