Woah really? Someone screenshot

I tried to but failed 💀

But it’s in the video where Kaya dropped out and Fire thought she’d have to perform on her own, right around the 3:00 mark

Anyone watch Clark Beckham's reviews?

Usually agree or at least understand his takes. He's very fair and balances technical critiques with more opinionated takes. But he isn't into Wè as a singer. Wonder what it will take lol.

With the live shows approaching soon, I was thinking about how much I miss What Not To Sing 😭 They truly used to be one my fave parts of watching Idol and I wish they kept going after Season 18 💔 Such a shame!

I know there are a lot of people who are currently active on IDF that were not really present during the era where WNTS was in it's prime, so I def recommend checking it out! For those who aren't familiar, What Not To Sing was a database that compiled ratings for every live performance on Idol (from S1-S18) based on social media reception, critics thoughts, fan rankings, and website polling. They also had amazing (and very witty) writeups posted throughout/at the end of each season, and a funny re-do series they ran every Summer called Camp Should-A-Been.

For any veteran IDF users: does anybody know how the owners of the site are doing and if they ever considered bringing it back?

Yeah I noticed that 💀 He kind of undersold her audition and just flat out did not like her Hollywood week performances. Wonder if her doing Ain’t No Wé next round will be enough to impress him.

While I admit that I really liked We when she was on The Voice, unfortunately, I'm not enjoying her nearly as much on American Idol. And that's because to me, anyway, it seems like she is coming across as someone who is trying a bit too hard and I'm having a hard time getting behind her because of it, despite her singing ability.

I don't really understand what you mean by "trying to hard"

Is it the song choices? Cause to me she's delivering (actually even on a higher degree than her time on the voice)

I like Clark and enjoy his reviews ... however I do not agree with some of his takes, especially with We

I think he just doesn't get her, and that she's just a "shtick" singer, which by all means is a weird take

I don’t think any of The Voice girls are doing as well as they should be. I also find Marybeth a little bit forced this season. Like she’s trying to sound like a female outlaw/folky country singer. She sounds good but it’s so different from how she was on The Voice. But I probably wouldn’t feel this way about her if I hadn’t already seen her on that show, so that’s a downside to coming to Idol from The Voice. People remember you a certain way already.

I mean singers can change/develop their sounds, its not unusual. I think we may need to see back-to-back performances before any judgement can happen. Sometimes we can grow to love a singer, sometimes its the reverse

Yeah there's always one or two takes that have me scratching my head. I agree with him more often than not though.

In the Hollywood premiere he describes Wé's mid register as hollow and yelly. He goes into it more in his video

And he described the duet as "theatrey" and that's it. Wish he went a bit more into it it like he did the premiere. Probably my biggest disagreement with him so far, sort of implies theater performances as an inherently negative thing.

I dont think it's cause of the "schtick" though.

I understand what it's like to not be into one of the objectively good singers. Was basically how I felt about Morgan myles on the voice S22 even though she's undeniably one of the best country singers that's ever been on the show vocally.

Unpopular opinion: I think Megan will be the girl who will make finale. Her hollywood performance is quite going viral on tiktok and shes exactly what the demo loves.

Right now, I think the last girl will be Haven. She's had a lot of screen time. Her video views on YT, FB, etc. are great. She's who the typical Idol audience likes, too. I think We could be a shock boot.

I have said that i don't understand why 'theatrical" neccesarily has to mean something negative, when in fact, it requires a lot of talent to do theater. But some people got offended when i pointed that out for some reason 🤷

Right?? It always gets on my nerves....

What's most ironic is that I'd say Katy Perry is one of the most theatrical artists to come out of the past decade (along with Lady Gaga) 💀 Her Vegas show is really just an elevated Broadway musical with all of the props, effects, and production value that are put into it. Not to mention how most of her iconic music videos center around her "larger than life" acting abilities and production value (Swish Swish, Last Friday Night, California Gurls, etc.)

Ig its just a personal preference and a lot of people don't like theatre, i'm guessing that's were Clark leans towards (I'm not really a big fan myself)

But again, doesn't mean it's an inherently negative quality and that they should remove that aspect from a contestant. It's a stylistic choice just as much as any other type of singing.

Theater/Broadway is where some of the most talented vocalists came from.

I haven't watched Clark's Idol show yet this year, but I usually agree with him. Guess he's another one who doesn't appreciate musicals? :/

My thoughts

- He finally liked a Wé performance lol. Surprised it was this one out of all the others, because despite the insane vocal range, I'd argue this was her most "yelly" performance which he used to describe her Duet. I'd also say it's her most pitchy performance.

- he's been pretty high on Kaylin calling her one of the best vocalists of the season.. I personally don't see it but I might have to rewatch her audition. No disrespect to her, but I don't see her doing anything some other contestants can't.

- surprisingly lenient on Tyson. I agree that a lyric flub shouldn't determine the end of a contestants journey but I thought the song choice was terrible for him. Want him to go back to a slower song were he can really showcase his tone and musicality like his audition.

- basically agree with him on everything else though. He sees potential in PJ and so do I tbh, he's got a nice tone, knows how to connect to a song. Just has to control his vocals better.

Despite the pitchy moments I definitely think its her most "impressive" thus far. The parts that were good, were stunning. Her first Hollywood performance didn't really make an impact and the duet wouldn't be for everyone.
