Y’all I need help looking for a contestant lol. She was an African-American woman and she made the lives but she wasn’t really very good. Simon kept saying she had a good voice though.

Season 2009?

Lil Rounds perhaps???

Paige Miles from Season 9? She performed a ghastly version of “Against All Odds.” Simon strangely kept saying she had the best voice of all the girls that year.

Lol I’ve only watched the infamous Against All Odds performance because I kept seeing mentions of it.

I thought All Right Now and Honky Tonk Women were pretty good. The rest...

I thought Walk Away was pretty great as well. The other two performances weren't good, but lowkey I don't think either of them deserved the amount of hate that they got. Especially given some of the other performances surrounding them.

lol I think I may just be super biased in Paige's favor, because I've rewatched that performance before and while it's still not good, I don't think it's anywhere near the worst performance of all time on Idol.

MJ’s website is almost unusable now, ugh. It crashes and reloads pages constantly. Time for a major update.

Yeah go to my blog I don't have ads up the ass. lmao jk

But seriously. Her site is atrocious and I swear I walk on glass every time I am raw with my comments.

She acts like she's the best "family friendly" AI blog, but hell. I'd pay to have Melinda Doolittle and Haley Reinhart blog Idol. lol I can't stand her site, but I still subscribe to emails...

hey hey heyyyyyy! Refugee from the Voice side of the forum here. Not really a fan of AI but every now and then a contestant comes along and drags me out of my bubble and forces me to watch their journey. And lucky for y'all, someone came in this season and caught my ear, and that is Mr. Oliver Steele!

Love the verve and soul in his voice, he actually gave me some Teddyswims vibes with some of his vocal choices. AI totally lucked out on getting him. Hope he goes far, but if I was him I'd drop this show and head on to The Voice, just saying.... ;)😜

LOL, yes. Please drop out of the show that has helped launch several music careers and go on the show whose only claim to fame is Morgan Wallen,

who got famous years later on his own. The show where your coach “wins” the season, not you.

Who said anything about launching music careers? I just want Oliver to go on a show that won't dilute his artistry by making him Disney songs and chestnuts from the "Great American Song Book" in an attempt to make him appeal to the voting demo that would forget him the minute he steps out of the Idol bubble.

Not saying the Voice is light years better in that regard, but at least he won't be forced to sing an umpteenth cover of You've Got a Friend in Me.

Also, let's stop pretending Idol's still making music careers with their finalists in the ABC era. At this point they're better at wracking up criminal records.

I see where you are coming from, as I too, hate Disney Night with a burning passion! I just don't think it is right to say Idol "dilutes artistry" when they encourage contestants to perform original songs throughout the competition, while The Voice only allows cover songs. The Voice is the show for vocals, while Idol is the show for artists 🤷‍♂️

I think The Voice v. Idol comparisons are soooo tired and redundant in 2023. Both have their pros and cons that appeal to different types of people which is fine! I've always found it off putting how some The Voice fans get so defensive whenever something threatening about Idol is mentioned; same thing for Idol fans. 💀 It's never that deep, they are both fun Reality TV shows at the end of the day. Watching both of them won't hurt!

No, you’re right. He should go on the show that literally has an Idol winner on the coaching panel. The worst that could happen is his coach pairs him with a screechy battle partner and makes them sing “Into the Unknown” from Frozen II.

The Voice sucks and hasn't launched a single star and you couldn't pay me to watch it. lmao

I know that sounds harsh. It's mainly from past perspective

I watched the following and none came close to Idol...

AGT

America's Best Dance Crew
SYTYCD

The Voice's auditions are fun but no one ever seems good or unique enough. IMO

I do dislike how much the voice is about the coach rather than the contestants, but one thing I like about the voice is there's no age limit, it just widens the talent pool, and I do think the general singing ability of contestants is a bit higher. It's also moreso about the voice(at least until live voting)

I get why AI has an age limit. I assume it's because they're looking for marketability and someone that can sell records (bit ageist but whatever), I still wish there wasn't one. At least they're honest about not being solely about the voice though.

On the other hand, I don't think you can deny artists are accommodated much more on AI even though it seems to only be a certain type of artist (country, indie, singer-songwriter).

I really like both, I do wish the AI forum here was as active as the voice though, I'd partake in the live threads more and I'd probably have a blast poking fun at the judges and things that come across scripted.

LOL. I like The Voice and have been watching it since Season One. I loved what the show used to be in its early seasons. It was much more edgy than Idol. Now it’s just gotten so watered down and stale that I can’t get into it like I used to. They’ve had some incredible talent over the years but the only people who have any type of moderate success  immediately after their time on the show were Cassadee and Danielle. Melanie and Morgan made their own careers. I’m sure they gained some fans from their time on the show, but they didn’t get famous until years after they’d been on it. That’s my biggest gripe with the show. The coaches are the winners and so many good singers get sent home too early because they’re on the “wrong” team. Every new season starts out with a coach saying “I won last season with so and so.”

Tbh I have wondered why The Voice forum is much more active than this one (as of the past few years.) I know for Idol there are a lot of viewers who wait to watch until Hollywood or Lives because the pre-live rounds can feel like filler. The Voice also has two seasons per year so perhaps that has something to do with it?
