Imagine placing Payge below Jim, Marisa, Eli. LOL

personally i think that payge has far more potential then most of those on the premiere, but i think her thin high notes really took away from her otherwise great performance. if she can't use stronger high notes, i would prefer she stick to her extremely impressive lower register.

i ranked her near the bottom because there were several solid performances that didn't do anything super impressive, but hit all the notes as they should have. based on her battle, and if she moves on beyond that, her KO, i hope to consider her more of a frontrunner.

Looking at my own scores:

  • Agreed/nearly agreed (gave within a +/- letter grade): Tamara, Lauren, Ian, Jim, Payge, Marisa
  • Disagreed (bigger than one +/- gap): Joseph, Eli, John

My scores, for reference (with an explanation when my scores were different):

  • Tamara: A-
  • Lauren: C+
  • Joseph: B (I thought his take on the song was pretty and I liked his tone, but it was kinda sleepy even though it was solid otherwise - but nothing technical popped out to me that suggested lowering it beyond a B-)
  • Ian: B- (He was technically solid and interesting tonally, but I'm not a fan of his enunciation/affectations though I could still understand the majority of what he was saying)
  • Jim: B+ (He's tone-wise less interesting than Ian, but still very good and I wouldn't be surprised to see him do well in the competition)
  • Eli: B (A rich tone and seems like there's potential to pack a wallop there, and definitely deserved a second chair turn, but not as strong emotionally for me)
  • Payge: B+
  • Marisa: A- (I'm not sure how much me being a P!nk fan biases me, but I felt like she connected with the message of the song and she has a solid foundation vocally to work with - with some technique refinements she could go from "very good" up to "great" easily)
  • John: B+ (I appreciate that he's a strong vocalist with a lot of training, but I wasn't a big fan of his tone - I do think he's in capable hands with his coach, though)

My take:

Payge - A

Jim - B+

Eli - B+

Tamara - B

John - B

Ian - B-

Marisa - C+

Joseph - C+

Lauren - C-

Payge was awesome.  Eli surprised.  John is screechy.  Wanted to like Marisa but not enough there.  Lauren was pretty messy.

Pretty underwhelming premier...but what else is new?

As of right now Payge has moved to 4th. I think sometimes the standings are different early on and then after like 4 to 5 hours they change significantly but that wasn't the case here the top 3 are still John/Tamara/Jim. I remember here people used to put the poll results too early for s18 and said T-storm is Tvline's fav while their fav was Todd T except for PO and Who will win(after the Finale performances) poll T-storm never beat Todd head to head.
