What are they thinking?! :dead:

I do love Tyra but I can’t see this being received well at all...wasn’t she kinda bad/poorly-received on AGT (I didn’t really watch but thought that’s what I heard)?

This will be an interesting season I guess. :haha:

Yeah her hosting was badly received on AGT. Hoping she gets a better reaction here and does better..... but we'll see.

It seems like a very clear push for more diversity behind the scenes and in front of the camera, which of course is amazing, but idk if Tyra for Tom was the way to go lol. More pros of color (promote Britt!!!!!), better and more diverse judges, more diverse celebrities that aren't your token pop star and football player, and more diverse producers. Firing Tom Bergeron for Tyra Banks isn't ending racism :haha:. Also I'm not sure if progressives would choose Tyra Banks as the voice of the show since this past year a bunch of her old ANTM clips have been floating around twitter as everyone is blown away by how problematic the show is/was.

Agreed completely on all of this. There are FAR other ways in bringing more diversity to the show than firing the actual face of DWTS in Tom. 😐 Bringing in more pros of color and celebs in - as well as backstage production are some key factors.

I mean, since they were aiming for more diversity with a host change, there are several past contestants who fit the bill better than Tyra.

I thought for sure they’d choose someone from the Alfonso/Rashad/Jordan Golden Boy trio as a host. :haha:

But yeah, bringing in Tyra isn’t going to fix the long-standing problem this show has with diversity if there isn’t a serious shake-up to other aspects of the show as well.

Lol yess I was thinking they would go in choosing one of those 3. Maybe not Alfonso as he's hosting AFV but Rashad or Jordan could have worked.

Seriously.

Also when GMA today called Tyra the first black female host the show has had...the Lisa Canning erasure! 💔 I feel like @Alex95 and I’s stanning her was for nothing!

I saw this from GMA and thought the same thing. :(

I thought for sure Alfonso was going to be the new host. I honestly would rather have him than Tyra. I love Tyra but she isn't the right demo for the show. The soccer moms are not going to like her and I wouldn't be surprised if she quit after a season or two. :haha:

Yeah I was thinking the same.

This better have been a financial decision, though I can't imagine Tyra being cheaper than Tom. This show has had so many issues that could be fixed but instead of focusing on those, they're messing with arguably the best and most consistent part of the show. Same thing happened with SYTYCD. They kept changing up the things that worked and ignoring the things that didn't. I hope the show can survive beyond this season because it's been a huge part of my life for the past 15 years but if it doesn't, the producers have only themselves to blame.

Exactly to all of this. (!)

I just realized that Len might not even be able to come to US to do the show with all of the travel restrictions in place.

Oooh yeah that's another thing to think about.

Is Britt a lock? I really don't want to get my hopes up, but with some pregnancies, the production changes, and the climate of the world, I really can't imagine them snubbing her...But DWTS production is famously out of the loop of what the fans actually want.

I haven’t heard anything yet r.e possible names but yeah, I feel like with everything going on we should see some new/more black pros in the roster. I’m hoping we see a similar route with the steps towards diversity in The Bachelor franchise - that it shouldn’t have taken this long, but hopefully now they are finally stepping up and doing something about it.

Really hoping one of them is Britt, she deserves it!

I'd rather see some legit ballroom and latin dancers like they had in the early seasons. Letting go of the troupe and bringing on Pasha & Daniella was a positive move IMO. If they want someone for diversity reasons, I'll take Britt as it does sound like she has really thrown herself into teaching and competing so should at least be competent. I don't know if the same can really be said for Hayley though so I hope she won't be one of the pros.

Jerry Harris from the Netflix show Cheer is rumoured to be on

I’d be down for this  He’s super positive and entertaining!

Don't know who he is but I'd be down for him being cast as well purely because they need some younger guys this season. Wasn't interested in the myriad of middle aged guys that were on last season's cast.

I agree, Pasha and Daniella’s addition and disbanding the troupe of jazz dancers attempting Latin/ballroom felt like DWTS was going back to its roots.  I think Britt is the only one who can not only keep up with the pros but also teach a beginner since she’s been doing anything that would give her more experience in Latin/ballroom.  Hayley doesn’t seem as committed to improving on her Latin/ballroom dancing, teaching and choreographing since she was let go and I’m not confident about her teaching abilities; during Juniors, her four-ish years of Latin/ballroom experience really showed in her kids’ dances and apparently she had help from Malene Østergaard with choreographing routines.  I’ve also had a hard time liking her since her dating Derek likely played a part in her taking Brittany Cherry’s spot in the troupe and even when she apparently was having trouble picking up the Latin dances, Brittany was only brought back that season when Peta dropped out due to injury and Lindsay was moved up from troupe to pro.  I’ve also heard that Jenna was almost cut completely which is ludicrous, she’s not the best teacher but she is one of the best dancers there and seems like the go-to female dancer whenever someone can’t rehearse or perform.  Don’t even get me started on Allison, Morgan and Tyne.

Remember Allison and her sulking any time her partner got a score below 7 or when she got criticised? Aside from being poor at ballroom/latin, I think her true colours came through more than once. Imagine if she stuck around for S24 and danced with Mr. T, Bonner or Chris? In my April fools joke thread, I paired her with Master P - now that pairing would be comedy gold. If Ashly got frustrated with him, I can only imagine how Allison would have handled him.

The name Malene Østegaard is familiar, apparently she's a pro on the show in Denmark. Interesting to see that she helped Hayley a lot with choreography. I don't think that Hayley did enough to deserve a pro spot and the constant campaigning for her on SM got annoying. If anything, she was lucky to stay for so long, probably because of the Derek connection as you said.

And the judges went out of their way not to directly call out her poor choreography after her hissy fit in only Week 2 of her first season.  Maks apparently didn’t get the memo when he guest judged in Season 21 and pointed out the lack of Viennese Waltz, oh man if looks could kill...

We're talking about Allison being grossly under qualified to be a pro?

One of my favorite discussions.

She wanted to be Witney so badly and win her second season too she actually did a cluttered version of Alfonso’s freestyle for Riker.

Oh I also forgot how much of a train wreck she was in opening numbers, troupe bumpers and background of couples’ dances.  Season 23: bumped hands with Jenna in the My Heart Will Go On opening number, fell down in a bumper with Keo, and yanked on the cage so hard during Laurie & Val’s Cell Block Tango it almost hit them!  No wonder she wasn’t back the next season.

Her blog during season 22, all she talked about was how amazing each couple was, you would think those entries came from a fan of DWTS rather than a former pro.  Meanwhile, Emma actually discussed the dancing and the judges’ scores in her own blog that season.

Her “dancing” in the Pirates paso next to Lindsay and Jenna 😂🤣😂🤣😂 windmill arms and fish hook faces galore!!!

Found this forum a while ago and they had quite a lot to say about Allison and her ballroom “technique” when she was a pro:

BRITT IS A PRO :spaz:

Sharna and Keo are back too! I had a feeling we may see Sharna again, but I wasn't sure whether there'd be enough female spots. I'll post the full list in a moment, just wanted to celebrate Britt first

Oh wow so we're getting 14 pros/couples this season it seems! 😮 Seems that it's just Lindsay and Witney out for obvious reasons, with the introduction of three women in their place - Sharna, Britt and Daniella, and one man - Keo returning. Excited for Daniella to get a shot as pro! Pasha had a great first season so I'm looking forward to what she brings.

Premiere is September 14th, it seems that they're doing the couple announcement on the live show again but stars will be announced before that, so we'll probably still find all the pairs out before they reveal it. :haha:

BRITT. :spaz: So happy she’s a pro!

Very happy Keo’s back as well! Please give him a contender this season, as he’s proved he can handle it.

Happy for Daniella - excited to see how she does as a pro.

Expecting Sharna to get dragged by IDF on a weekly basis now that she’s back. :giggle:

Did they explicitly say that all of these pros are competing? Could be similar to last season with someone getting benched (hopefully Gleb & Jenna - why those two are continually brought back I have no idea).

Good for Britt & Daniella to get a shot - best of luck to them. And I actually like Sharna so I'm glad to see her back but keep her away from the problematic characters - give her someone with a personality like James H again.

Soldid lineup! I obviously don't care for Sharna and I'm tired of Val. Pretty tired of Peta too. But overall I'm still happy!

I didn't realize Peta did last season until I looked it up :dead:. I legit completely forgot more than half the cast of last season.

Lamar Odom was the highlight of that partnership so this is totally understandable!
