Chadwick Pelletier (Road Rules: Down Under)

 

 

Chadwick is a perfectly fine cut, but he definitely made a major impact on his season of Road Rules. Appearing on the sixth season, Chadwick is definitely a pretty polarizing character. He starts the season off by competing in the extra large cliff to earn the group extra money, along with Piggy. An immediate attraction formed between Chadwick and Piggy, but he had reservations about getting involved with her since he was still reeling from his recent break-up with his ex. Then the first mission tasks the groups with dressing in drag and auditioning for a gay festival. Chadwick showed his problematic side when he displayed reservations over engaging in the task. He eventually does though, which is good I guess. Piggy starts to see a more negative side of Chadwick, since he constantly feels the need to be macho and show-off. She even sarcastically asked him to do a backflip...and he did. But he performed a song for Piggy, which made her feel better.

 

The rest of the season chronicles the issues between Chadwick and Piggy. He continues to struggle with breaking up with his ex, which is made more difficult by the fact that she continues to send him letters. He continues to flirt with Piggy, which makes him feel better. But he also clashes with Piggy, since the two have dueling personalities and Piggy is really overbearing. Chadwick has many heart-to-heart conversations with her about her attitude, since the entire group is eventually at odds with her. He even helps her pass the driving test and obtain her Australian license. But he also has more problematic moments during the season. Chadwick fights with Kefla because Kefla feels isolated by being the only Black man in the group and in a predominantly white country. Kefla takes an issue with having to teach Aboriginals about the American Thanksgiving. So of course Chadwick responds that Kefla too often brings up race. 

 

YIKES.

 

At least for the rest of the season he is pretty calm, having fun moments in the haunted house and mooning Roni during the All-Stars mission. He ends the season reflecting on his love-hate relationship with Piggy and comes to realize how much he has learned from her. During his one and only appearance on The Challenge, he is partnered with Piggy. Of course! He appeared on Battle of the Seasons (2002), and is the second Road Rules team eliminated from the competition. Though only on a total of four episodes, Chadwick found himself in a ton of drama. An alliance was formed between Holly B., Theo, Chadwick, and Piggy. Holly B. and Chadwick were married and ran a muck on the Road Rules team. The four person alliance decided that they wanted to vote off strong teams instead of weak ones in order to ensure themselves a spot in the finale. 

 

They made this alliance and strategy during the first few days of the competition. LOL. Chadwick was part of the controversial decision to vote out Veronica and Yes first, which basically cost him his time in the competition. Emily B. was privy to this Inner Circle alliance, since she was also part of the Inner Circle the first week of the season. She revealed this alliance to the rest of Team Road Rules, which caused a lot of drama involving Chadwick and Jisela.

When confronted, Chadwick blatantly lied about the presence of an alliance. He called Emily B. a liar and exposed himself as a true assh*le. During the second week of the competition, Chadwick and Piggy fell out of the Inner Circle. Holly B. tried to double back on her strategy of voting out stronger teams, since that would mean eliminating her husband. She was rightfully called out for her hypocrisy, and Chadwick + Piggy were sent home. After he was eliminated, Chadwick sent a nasty email to Emily B. where he went off on her and blamed her for his elimination.

 

Since he is such an unlikable guy that hardly appeared throughout the series, I am perfectly okay eliminating him!

I can say that I nominated Michael Ross because of the fact that he showed himself to be a very bad person during his season of The Real World. I know you have not seen it, so I do not hold that against you or anybody! But long story short, Dustin Zito had a secret past in gay porn/sex work that came to light during the season. Mike eventually tried to exclude and prevent Dustin from participating in the charity event for children, basically claiming that Dustin was on the level of a predator/pedophile who should probably not be around children. Stating that the school will be justified in not wanting him around their children if they find out about his past via a Google search. Mike was completely demoralizing and his time on Rivals could not redeem him in my eyes.

 

The Real World: Las Vegas is one of the most compelling seasons of television I have ever watched, and I value Mike as an interesting reality television cast member. But he was forever tarnished for me in that moment. Just wanted to put this out there so people understood my reasoning.

Shauvon Torres (The Real World: Sydney)

 

 

Shauvon is an icon and the fact that somehow Colie survived instead of her is just so, so, so disappointing!!! I really think Shauvon deserved better since she provided so many iconic moments while a part of the series.

 

The Real World: Sydney is a pretty horrible season in my opinion, but Shauvon is one of the few likable personalities that season. When she joined the show, she was majoring in journalism with the hopes of becoming a news reporter. She ran her own dating and relationships column, Sexcapades. Shauvon is openly bisexual. Most of her time in Sydney consisted of her trying to cope with her recent separation from her fiancé, David. He basically forced her to choose her career or marriage + kids, which is why the relationship ended. Her storyline revolves around trying to flirt with other people, but winds up regretting her behavior due to her lingering feelings for David.

 

After moving into the house, she forms a quick friendship with Parisa. The two of them quickly bond and both find themselves put off by KellyAnne's flirtatious nature. Shauvon finds herself attracted to Isaac and begins flirting with him during the first night out in Sydney. Shauvon finds herself in a bit of conflict with KellyAnne after the latter confronts Shauvon + Parisa for their judgment of her. They all make amends though. Shauvon then defends Parisa against the evil, racist, homophobic Trisha, after the latter retells a story where she accosted an Asian employee at McDonald's for not speaking "perfect English." Shauvon proved to be a queen very quickly!!!

 

She starts to regret her flirty behavior with Isaac and decides to try dating local men instead. She is set up on dates by Trisha, but the two continue to bicker since Trisha hates Parisa for being Iranian and Shauvon continues to defend Parisa. Isaac is upset that Shauvon has moved on to local men, but Shauvon starts to regret the decision as well, since her feelings for David persist. 

 

Except Shauvon starts to react to Isaac beginning a relationship with Noirin. This leads to a drunken argument between Shauvon and Isaac that gets pretty heated. Luckily, the two are able to squash the beef though. Shauvon continues to be an amazing human being when she fights with the horrid Trisha once again, after Trisha refers to gay men as "evil." Gotta love her. 

 

Her most iconic moment on The Real World is when she fights with Parisa, Cohutta, and Isaac over a grilled cheese sandwich. Parisa was cooking for the entire house except for Shauvon, since the latter wanted a grilled cheese sandwich instead of what Parisa was cooking. When Issac and Cohutta come to Parisa's defense, Shauvon begins a screaming match with Cohutta, which leads to Shauvon throwing plates and cups and cans at Cohutta. LOL. The moment is hilarious!

 

Shauvon continues to be torn up by her separation from David and continues to regret dating other men in Australia. David and Shauvon share a tearful reconciliation over the phone in which he asks her to come back to him. She struggles with the idea, since she does not want to end her time in Australia prematurely. Ultimately, she decides to leave Australia early. A dumb decision since by the reunion they had already separated again.

 

Shauvon's first season of The Challenge was The Duel II. She immediately made waves in the house by hooking up with CT on the first night in front of Diem, which indirectly led to the massive fight between CT and Adam. This quickly landed her in hot water with the entire cast, which is a pretty horrible way to start your rookie season. Shauvon was the first woman voted into the elimination round, and she decided to pick Aneesa as her competitor. This led to the epic elimination round between the two that consisted of them punching each other until Aneesa sent her packing in the first episode. LOL.

 

Her second season did not go any better. LOL. Immediately returning for The Ruins, Shauvon was part of the ill-fated Challengers team. During the Swing on By mission, Shauvon fell pretty horribly from the rope and ruptured an implant. That is an actual serious injury and yet most of the cast watched from the sidelines and laughed at her. She was so scared to even complete the mission, so I felt really bad for her. But this is an admittedly iconic scene!!! Legitimately the funniest scene in Challenge history!!! This injury caused her to be medically evacuated from the competition during the second episode. 

 

Her third and final appearance was on Cutthroat. Shauvon finished second-to-last in the opening little mission, which earned her the title of Grey Team Captain. She smartly assembled the strongest team of the season, and that is about all she contributed to the team. LOL. Her being essentially worthless as a competitor earned the ire of Sarah and Laurel, who definitely gave her sh*t for being a terrible competitor. So when the Grey Team voted her into the Gulag during the third episode, Shauvon quit the competition out of "respect" for her teammates. Poor thing!

 

Shauvon offered so many hilarious moments! I really wish I could find the scene of her fighting with Cohutta over the grilled cheese sandwich! But I managed to find some of her best moments on Youtube and posted them below!

Joss Mooney (Ex on the Beach UK)

 

 

Joss Mooney was part of the UK Invasion of The Challenge, debuting on Vendettas alongside his best friend, Rogan O'Connor, and his former girlfriend, Kayleigh Morris. Joss made his reality television debut on the first season of the hit show, Ex on the Beach. Joss returned to the beach a few seasons later as well. When initially announced as part of The Challenge cast, I was not pleased. Though the UK Invasion definitely helped reinvigorate the series, I was initially very hesitant. I think it just represented a massive movement away from the days of old. But I was super excited to see what Joss had to offer, considering he is a physical specimen. 

 

His debut season was actually pretty lackluster, but he did prove himself to be one hell of a competitor. Joss just seemed like a really nice guy and did not find himself in too much drama. Joss won the opening Purge mission and proved to everybody on the cast that he was the one to beat, quickly earning himself $25,000 for his personal bank account. He remained pretty low-key in the house until Episode 4. After losing the Food Wars mission, Joss was torn between voting either Sylvia or Brad into the elimination. Mind you, Sylvia was the person that actually competed in the eating challenge for their team since the boys basically b*tched out of doing it themselves. Brad was too scared to go into elimination, so he voted for Sylvia despite the fact that it was technically supposed to be a male elimination week. Joss sided with Brad instead of Sylvia in order to save himself, which earned him an enemy in Sylvia. He tried to suck up to her, but yeah the damage was already done there. 

 

After that point, Joss stayed pretty low-key. But his physical presence intimated a lot of the house. After his team lost the Puppet Master mission, Joss was voted into elimination in order to cut the most dominant competitor in the game. Joss found himself in the elimination against Derrick Kosinski, who was appearing as a Mercenary. Joss played a modified version of Pole Wrestle against Derrick, and the two put on what might be the most physically intense and scary elimination match in The Challenge history. Seriously. The elimination lasted for hours and was so brutal, at points being tough to watch. Joss manhandled Derrick for hours, but made a crucial mistake that cost him the win and got him sent home in a massive upset. Joss even left the season with a pretty bad shoulder injury. But he definitely made a name for himself.

 

Joss returned the following season, Final Reckoning, finding himself partnered with Sylvia due to their scuffle on Vendettas. The two had already squashed their petty beef and made an awesome duo. Final Reckoning is one of the most toxic and chaotic seasons ever, which made Joss and Sylvia the most rootable team due to being level-headed, great communicators, and physical beasts. Joss and Sylvia were part of the majority alliance that ran the game. Joss became a deliciously sexy item with Amanda this season. He competed very well. This was definitely his season to lose! Joss and Sylvia stayed out of the drama, yet found themselves called in to elimination twice. Joss and Sylvia sent Tori + Derrick H. and Tony + Bananas to the Redemption House, winning both eliminations pretty impressively. Joss and Sylvia remained calm, cool, and collected and won the two final daily challenges before the final mission. Joss seemed like he would snatch a win on only his second season. Except that did not happen. Despite being clearly the strongest team all season and in the final, Natalie & Paulie went back on a deal they had made with Joss & Sylvia during the final mission. Natalie & Paulie threw a grenade at Joss and Sylvia, which ended up costing them the win by mere seconds. It was actually pretty heartbreaking to watch, since Joss and Sylvia were completely destroyed by this loss/betrayal.

 

Joss returned for his third season on War of the Worlds 2. Joss was part of the ill-fated Team UK, but was reunited with his real-life best friend Rogan this time. This would greatly benefit Joss, who wound up being included in the majority alliance that kept him safe every time Team UK lost a daily. Except for when Zach and Tori infiltrated the Tribunal and decided to throw Joss into elimination in order to try and weaken Team UK. Joss defeated Bear in a pretty good match-up though. Joss finally found himself in some drama when Team UK actually won a daily challenge near the end of the season. As part of the Tribunal with Jenny and Kayleigh, Joss found himself torn between two decisions:

 

1) Vote in Georgia to benefit his social game and keep the majority alliance

2) Vote in Dee who was for some reason perceived to be the weakest link

 

The house pulled at Joss in order to try and sway him, all the way up until the moment when he said Georgia's name at the Proving Grounds. Joss was lambasted for his decision, but he made the right one. Sort of. LOL. This kept Joss from going being voted in when Team UK lost the following mission, but hurt him in a different way. Joss was again asked to vote the way of his alliance, which cost Jenny her spot in the game. This left Team UK with only two women, Dee and Kayleigh, both of whom really do not know how to swim. Tori was now part of Team UK as well, but of course she would work with Jordan at any given moment. Unfortunately for Joss, he would be partnered with Kayleigh for Puzzling Swim, which just so happened to be a Purge mission. Kayleigh really struggled to swim, which sent Joss home. His elimination interview was pretty sad, considering he felt like this was the third time he had been screwed over unfairly. Partly true, but he also had a hand in sending home Georgia and Jenny, which is still a strategy that I agree with!

 

Anyways. Joss is beautiful, an amazing competitor, and a pretty sweet guy all things considered. But he is also boring and a fair elimination ultimately. Here are some of his most memorable moments on The Challenge (his elimination against Derrick in the final video starts at 27:00):

Natalie "Ninja" Duran

I honestly have no idea what to make of Natalie Ninja. She made it this far without getting nominated though and for some reason that didn't seem right lol, so I nominated her and she happened to get cut (as Colie randomly skated by to the next round lol). We were introduced to Ninja in War of the Worlds. She came from American Ninja Warrior and right off the bat she seemed like the strongest female prospect in the cast easily. She got paired up with Paulie so it was easy to root against her. I enjoyed her little bffmance with Dee early on, but overall she didn't make much of an impression. Her most infamous moment is when she got partnered up with Turbo for a challenge later in the season, but then lit into him like a crazy person when she thought he blew it for them (even though they ended up finishing in the top three lol). While I wasn't a fan of that moment, I thought fans overreacted a bit. Ninja was certainly showing her ass there, but a reality show contestant yelling at another reality show contestant is hardly something that disgusts me to my core. But I was still firmly #TeamTurbo. Ninja sailed through to the finals and ended up being the only girl to finish the final. She got fourth place and no money though which was a bit unfair. Like no sh*t Turbo, Theo, and Wes beat her.

She comes back a season later as a reinforcement for War of the Worlds II. She ends up getting recruited for Team US with Turbo. She joins up with Paulie and Cara's insufferable cult, which of course made Ninja insufferable in the process. She ended up becoming a #flop in challenges which was such a weird storyline since she was propped up as a beast the previous season. I wasn't 100% buying the storyline, but also she was kind of sucking at the daily challenges. In a low moment of the show, Ninja beat Laurel in an early elimination on a technicality, thus letting the Cara Maria and Paulie steamroll commence and ruin the season. As the likable characters got killed off one by one, I did find myself ironically enjoying Ninja. She was sooooooo annoying and legit no one could stand her, and that made her lowkey funny to me. She ended up on the final Team US team in the finals and lost to Team UK (and I was overjoyed). Overall I don't have that burning hatred for her that a lot of people seem to have, but I also don't love her. Allegedly, she's a sure bet for S36 so we'll see how that goes.

LOL I love all of the mentions of Colie.  I nominated her as I thought she would be a foddery easy cut..... but then she stays over all of the other girls.  I can't be blamed for that one.

 

I don't really know Shauvon so I'm sorry to her fans about her going. But yeah I was hoping for Ninja or specifically Jenna to survive over Colie but no luck there. Although I'm fine with Ninja going at this point.

Disclaimer: Check out Dee's bonus writeup on him as this was all planned before I read it. Obviously some of my feelings on him aren't exactly the same, but this is based on how I felt watching him on his one season of The Challenge.

As I'm sure everyone here can tell, I'm a huge reality tv fan. Shocker, right?! At times it can be mindless entertainment and I find myself gravitating to the boisterous personalities and the bigger characters. Of course there used to be the intersting and complex sociological storylines, but in this day in age they are few and far between. Along with the big personalities though, every once in a while I find the "relatable" characters and gravitate towards them. Now, The Challenge isn't really that show where I can relate to the characters. I talked a bit about how I relate to Laurel (unhealthily) in my own personal thread. But most of these competitors are muscle-bound douchebags who if I had to spend a minute with any of them, I don't think I'd be able to have a full conversation. Along came Michael Ross though. And for the first time, I found myself on The Challenge maybe not so much anymore, but let's roll with it for the sake of the writeup lol

Michael never belonged on The Challenge (nor do I lol). He came onto Rivals as a last second replacement for Adam Royer because he got himself dq'd the very first week and MTV would rather shut The Challenge down than let Leroy leave partnerless (despite the fact that they really love sending Sarah Rice home partnerless ). Michael was rather unathletic, average looking, intelligent, and socially awkward. A rarity on this show. The rest of the cast stared at him like he had two heads because he, like, could do long division. He was kinda that goofy guy that the popular guys ironically hung out with. Paula would ironically make out with him, and Bananas and Kenny would try to see how far they could push the socially awkward dorky kid until he snapped. I'm someone who also used to be (and I mean come on, still is at times) socially awkward and kind of let people pick on me just to feel like I could fit in. Luckily I'm a lot older, in a different place in my life, and have friends that truly love me so I'm not that same man. But it was just so wild seeing Michael on The Challenge and seeing him in situations that I felt like I've been in. Of course one day Bananas & Kenny take it too far and Michael snaps. He erupts on them like a bat outta hell. I loved seeing Michael stand up for himself. He was totally in the right and he totally put those guys in their place. They treated him like garbage for weeks and Michael had enough. It was such an exhilarating and exciting moment and I wish he had done it sooner. Any time Michael somehow snuck by another week either by someone sucking worse, Leroy beasting a challenge enough for the two of them, or Michael's intelligence actually helping them for a change, I felt immense pride for him. Despite only doing one season, Michael made a huge impression on me and became one of my favorite guys in Challenge history.

Ahh did not know this! Thanks for letting me know, I need to get back into staying more informed on all of The Challenge happenings. I still don't think it's a technicality given that Laurel simply did not follow the rules and Ninja figured it out, but I could see why you and others feel like it was a technicality.
