I agree with it for the most part, if only we had at least 1 female PV though.... But yeah overall great people going into the Semi-finals.

Nick has the best shot, I see he has 2 people finale worthy.

I agree with the result. No one is robbed imo. Best chance of winning : Nick, followed by Blake.

I’m not really sure anyone was robbed as much as it was them choosing a worse song choice than the others (even I I personally liked some of the songs/performances)

I mean he really only had Maelyn as a reputation, yes he had Katie/Marybeth/Khalea, but he messed them up easily. Lmao and didn't even save Khalea, Katie and Marybeth were both blocks as well. I'm saying he didn't make the artists, the artists made him and he always held onto his ace. I guess S18 was the exception, but Zan was always his bae so in his eyes he doesn't really care that she's in low-tier support right now I guess.

I think he still did good for S17, considering he got 3 artists to the semi-finals, I do however think Marybeth could have used more support from him.

I would argue that Will did not get to T8 because of John or any efforts John made, but because of his community.

Except he always has been.  He just gets better talent than Gwen.  Maelyn, in particular, would have made any coach a winner.....even Gwen or Shakira could have won with her.  Being lucky that TPTB would not allow any other coach to even ask her to join their team is a world away from being a good coach.

He had the strongest team that season, but he gave Katie some really questionable song choices (Lady Marmalade in the Semifinals for example), that had her singing at 10 the whole time, without allowing her to show more versatility, he turned Marybeth into a pop singer when her strength was in storyteller country, only to go back to country in T8 but giving her the worst possible song choice for her. Will was able to get as far as he did by being himself, John didn´t help in any of that. And if you go back into the season, he had a winner in Mendeleyev, and he eliminated him for a contestant he would up eliminating the next round. He had way too much talent that season and did not know how to distribute or use it to his advantage. And this season, it was the exact same thing, an OP team in the  blinds to being in danger of not having a finalist. I hope he continue to let CammWess do his thing, that´s the only way he will advance. Otherwise we might be looking at another "Señorita" moment.

 

I liked John in his first season, but in the last couple of them I can safely say he´s my least favorite coach now. Maelyn was handed to him on a silver  platter, S17 and S18 have proven that he can´t handle his own as a coach, and the worst part is that everybody wants him. That´s my rant lol.

John is Pharrell 2.0. Unlike Gwen or Shakira, Pharrell usually had a stacked team in the blinds, only to end up eliminating his best people before the lives. And the few good people he managed to bring to the Top 12 were handicapped with his selection of bad song choices (p.e Hannah Huston, who ended up third, just like Katie).

 

And the only time he won was with a contestant that would have won in any team, just like Maelyn in S16.

 

I thought he was the best coach in the panel in S16, but after seeing S17 I was completely wrong.

I think John is worse tbh. Pharrell usually chose the loser of the battle/KO to ensure the other contestant would get stolen, because he cared about the contestants. John genuinely wants to win, and he seems to choose who he legitimately thought was better, and in many cases, it has ended bad for him. A rookie coach is on the process of winning with an artist that John let go in the KOs. (PD: I don´t think they will cut to him if that happens, since he might be throwing stuff in anger lol)

Wasn't there some trickery involved in John getting Maelyn. I feel like I heard the other judges were basically told to let him have her but I can't remember the specifics about the story or if it was actually true.

Overall, the results were great, but I think Allegra deserved a PV. Too bad Thunderstorm landed on Nick’s Team so the new coach can have his win. 

 

2. Who has the best chance of winning? 

Team Nick. He could easily get two people in the Finale.

No one, which is weird tbh .

With those three finalists, let's examine closer:

• Katie was his front-runner but was handed some head-scratchers for song choices, Lady Marmalade being the best example of this - if the Kadanators hadn't been a very vocal backing group, that could've been the end, especially given that she was first to sing in the semifinals (and both seasons previously the first singer in the semis got either Instantly Eliminated or had to do the IS).
• Marybeth got shoved in the pop lane when her natural knack for story-telling suited country better (since country is known for being the story-telling genre) - after John realized he f-d up he then proceeded to give her a country song again but picked an angry song that didn't suit her at all; something gentler/more wistful (ie, "Jesus Take the Wheel" or "How Do I Live") would likely have resulted in her tanking less than she did.
• He pretty much left Will to his own devices as the team dark horse, which honestly worked to Will's advantage; he had a solid backing from the voters (autistic fans or parents/families of people on the autism spectrum are a force to be reckoned with) and got to do a lot of high-energy stuff that suited him well, but as a Will fan I acknowledge he was just a touch too polarizing to make the finale.

As for this season, it's a lot more wide-open than any other Team Legend season, so he could sneak one into the finale but it really is going to depending on not screwing song choices up for Zan and CammWess, particularly the latter.

I agree with everything you said, because at least Pharrell had a decent season as a coach (S8), and he genuinely cared about the contestants.

 

But I also think that John hasn’t reached quite yet the level of stupidity that was Pharrell on S7, and I don’t he ever will.

Tbh, I think John cares more about contestants than winning. However, he does seem to have some favoritism (but then again, which coach doesn’t?)

I get the feeling that Will being the only non-four-chair-turn of Team Legend last season meant he wasn't taken as seriously as a front runner, so he got a little more room for error/license to execute what vision he had than the ladies on his team while still being reined in by TPTB and his coach as needed (he's mentioned a couple of times in livestreams semi-jokingly that he wanted to do Old Town Road for a round, that would've been quite a something).

I liked her version but this wasn't the season for it; were it like last season where we went 17 down to 12/13, it might've gone better (Tstorm and Allegra getting the PV, then Nick could save whoever after that).
