Disney Characters Rankdown

Hamm

tumblr_pjqk0yBZDi1sr5vsyo2_500.gifv

Aw, I really like Hamm, but the other characters I'd most consider cutting are more prominent in their movies,  and I figured people might want to save them, so I will go with this instead.  Why do I cut characters I like more than others? I'm so giving. :broken: That may end soon. But I would rather write about Hamm anyway, although the cuts of all these iconic toys do make me sad. I especially love Slinky Dog, who is DACHSHUND, my favorite dog breed.  Give his write-up a picture, @~*8Kay8*~. :giggle:lol Anyway, Hamm is a supporting character in the Toy Story franchise, and one of Andy's many beloved toys. His occupation is, in fact, a wise-cracking piggy bank.  He is very sarcastic, as well as loyal, friendly, and smart. Hamm is especially good friends with Mr. Potato Head, since they often play games together and share high-fives. :haha: That's so cute.

tumblr_m8g5wofoNX1qgzqnco1_250.gif

Hamm is also very smart when it comes to technology, and is able to identify types of child locks and trash bags. He can also switch channels in the second movie much quicker than any other toy.

WOW.  I stan the speedy Hamm. It is too much to talk about his role in every single movie, so I'll just name some random things. His original cork is apparently lost, so Andy replaces it with a wine cork. Hamm has the alter ago of Evil Dr. Porkchop, who just appears in a fantasy sequence in Toy Story 3. When Andy voices Dr. Porkchop, he uses a British accent. :giggle: Hamm is so wordly. Another fun fact is that Hamm is shown to have aged quite a lot in between the third and forth movies. In the third, his hooves have black paint coming off, while the corners of his legs and snout are cracked. But in the fourth movie, he has noticeable colored scuff marks around his face and coin slot. :( Poor Hamm. TOYS SHOULDN'T AGE. But it's wear and tear from being played with out of love, I'm sure. ❤️  By the end (?) of the series, Hamm is one of Bonnie's toys, as he was donated to her from Andy with the rest of them. Long live, Hamm. ❤️

David

PSA David From “Lilo & Stitch” Is Better Than All The Other Disney ...

Wow, super rude to nominate 4 of my favorite characters and ensuring that I would only be able to save one of them. Thank you to Victoria for helping Madam Mim get a bit of a better ranking in the game, though.  I enjoyed the save while it lasted.

Derek not doing a control freak cut of Wart or his rankdown representative, Kevin? Even though they are guaranteed to be cut this round?? What has the world come to??? Maybe he's decided to stop playing so nice in this game???? Maybe he really wants Megan to save Shang instead of David????? As Megan repeatedly reminds us, David is the ideal man. He is attractive. He is supportive. He is respectful. He is not beholden to garbage patriarchal ideals. But David is not a main character in the movie. He courts Nani throughout the movie, but he gives her space to work out her problems. He tries to help her with her problems and gets her a job and helps with Lilo, but he does not tell her what to do. He's a bit clumsy and aloof, but that makes him even more lovable. Unfortunately, at the end of the day he is a secondary character in the movie and has been nominated many times. Hopefully Megan decides to focus her wrath on Dee instead of me. As a reminder, Dee cut the movie Cats from the films rankdown. But yeah, as evidence that his role is minor in the first Lilo & Stitch movie, his wikipedia just has one tiny paragraph for that film. Oof, for the TV series wiki says "David has an even smaller role in the series." We love you David, you are better than a lot of Disney men. Maybe Megan will win a music challenge and bring you back or something.

With David gone what’s the point! Anyway I need an extension. Every muscle in my body aches and I’m so tired I’m not waking up until 5pm tomorrow. So I won’t be able to make it for another 20 hours

My clingy, cranky baby will also not allow a cut before bed tonight :haha: I shall make mine early tomorrow morning (and fix the Peter Pan and Slinky cuts, as well!). If anyone has any specific requests for either direction, feel free to ask. There aren’t any on this list I’m super strong on cutting or saving currently...

But for tonight, the crying baby and I watch Zootopia and snuggle (possibly with a large glass of wine for Mommy). 🤷‍♀️

20-30 minutes of a Disney movie each night has become part of our routine at my house! I'm amazed at how many movies we're gone through over the past couple months.

Random aside for no one: apparently Disney+ doesn't have Make Mine Music. I think that's the only Walt Disney Animation Studios movie that's not on the platform, besides Ralph Breaks the Internet which is still under contract at Netflix. So yeah I found a way to download it and am curious to see what makes it so scandalous.

Princess Giselle

excited amy adams GIF

I settled on this decision because I agree with what others have said that while the live-action Wildcards are fun, they just aren’t as iconic of Disney characters as the ones from the classics. Enchanted is a very cute movie which I actually haven’t seen in a while, so I will have to remedy that soon. Giselle (played by Amy Adams) is your typical Disney Princess in the beginning, beautiful and naive with a strong connection to animals. In the fictional town of Andalasia, she meets Prince Edward, and the two are instantly enamored with one another. Their plans to quickly marry are foiled by the sorceress, Queen Narissa, who is trying to protect her hold on the throne. She pushes Giselle into a well which transports her to New York City. This change is naturally difficult and scary for Giselle. As she wanders the city lost and confused, she encounters Robert, a lawyer planning to propose to his girlfriend Nancy. As the insistence of his daughter, Robert allows Giselle to stay the night.

During this time, Prince Edward and Pip follow her to New York on a rescue mission and Queen Narissa sends a henchman to kill her (and ultimately makes the journey herself). While all of this is going on, Giselle and Robert begin to bond. Prince Edward and Princess Giselle are reunited, but Giselle isn’t feeling as into the marriage idea as she once was (and I bet we all know why!). All of the main characters converge at a costume ball, and Narissa in disguise gives Giselle a poisoned apple. When they realize that this spell requires “true love’s kiss”, Edward is first in line to try to help. His kiss fails to do anything, and everyone realizes that Robert should be the one to kiss her. It’s successful! But Narissa isn’t ready to give in that easily, turning into a dragon and capturing Robert. Giselle gets the chance to be the hero instead of the damsel, and she and Pip save Robert from danger. Our main characters get their happy ever after, with Giselle/Robert remaining in New York and Edward/Nancy finding love with each other and becoming the King and Queen of Andalasia.

Giselle is a very fun character, and Amy Adams is a perfect person to play a Disney Princess. The movie is very self-aware and pokes fun at a lot of the Disney stereotypes in a playful way. I love the concept of seeing how fairytale characters tackle the challenges of the real world (see The 10th Kingdom, one of my favorites). Giselle is a great character and I’m glad she made it this far, but again I just don’t feel like any of the live action characters (save for maybe Mary Poppins/Bert) stand up to the animated films in terms of iconic-ness.

Yes! We usually either watch some in the morning after her first feeding/changing, or at night before bed. Disney+ has been a much better investment than we had ever imagined :haha:

Slinky Dog (Toy Story)

toy story pixar GIF by Disney

Slinky Dog is a fun toy from the Toy Story films, but he’s mostly a supporting character so I think this is a fair place to lose him. But he is adorable, and his body proves very versatile throughout the series, so I will include many examples of this throughout :haha:

I3z0shWYT-16pcM3Db7gq2qHWGF_qiqvtPMwront
In the first movie, we see him as one of the toys closest to Woody as they play together often. The first time we meet him, the pair are playing checkers. Slink is enamored by the new toy, Buzz Lightyear, much like all of the others. But when all the toys seem to turn on Woody for “attacking Buzz”, Slinky defends him, stating that it must have been an accident. When faced with evidence that seems to totally implicate Woody, Slinky has no choice but to believe it. But instead of showing anger like many of the toys, we only see disappointment from him as he walks away slowly from the window of Andy’s room.  Once the truth comes out, he feels guilty for his judgment. His big moment is in the end of the movie when he uses his slinky body to stretch himself to help Buzz, Woody, and RC car rejoin the rest of the group in the moving van. Unfortunately, RC’s battery begins to drain, and he is stretched too far! He gets spring back into the moving van empty handed and stretched well beyond his capacity. Instead of worrying about himself and his injuries, he is lamenting the fact that he couldn’t hang on longer for his friends. He is very excited when Woody’s plan with the rocket proves successful. At the end of the movie, we see that somehow his slink has been restored and he joins the other toys settling into Andy’s new room.

174c24baa298c86ffa6e3fa56c487d05d89a7d56
In the second film, we are reminded early on of the close friendship between Slink and Woody, as Slinky is the one to recover Woody’s hat before Woody leaves for camp. Slinky is also part of the group who tries to rescue Woody from Al. His unique body once again comes in handy when he and Buzz use his coil to bungee out of Andy’s house. He also uses his length and some traffic cones to make crossing the street safer. He doesn’t get along with Jessie’s horse Bullseye at first, and the two have a little growling match. At the point in the movie where it seems like Woody is going to stay with his new friends, Slinky is heartbroken. Ultimately, Woody does decide to rejoin his friends, but Stinky Pete and Al do not want to let that happen. This leads Slinky and Buzz on a chase that requires them to operate a pizza delivery truck and head to the airport. While Slinky has a few more close calls and over-stretches, the toys are successful in the end and return home.

When-Buzz-comes-up-amazingly-impressive-

In Toy Story 3, Slinky is among the other toys that are donated to the Daycare. We see him interacting with the other toys, and getting tangled up a bunch by children trying to play with him. He is imprisoned by Lotso like the others, and is very excited to see Woody return to help them. Again, his slinky aids in the escape plans, and the group escapes the dangers of the landfill. We see Slinky anxious to get revenge on Lotso, but Woody talks him out of it, more excited to be going home. We again see a sad farewell between Slinky and Woody (with Slinky thinking Woody is off to college with Andy), but all the toys wind up going to Bonnie... So the friends stay together once more!

a3a43938131f474292df579499c9c1e8.gif
While Slinky is in Toy Story 4, his role is extremely minimal (which is the case for most of the originals that aren’t Bo, Buzz, or Woody). We see him in the flashback when Bo Peep goes missing, and he is once again stretched out as part of a rescue mission for RC car. We then mostly just see him in the background of big group shots playing with Bonnie (most notably as the Ice Cream Man in her town), and a few scattered scenes of all of the toys worrying about Woody and Buzz. In the end, Woody and Slinky finally have to really say goodbye to each other as Woody chooses to stay with Bo Peep as a lost toy. Slinky remains as one of Bonnie’s toys.

Anyways, Slinky Dog is one of Andy’s original toys. While he doesn’t really have a strong plot of his own in the movies, he is one of the consistent supporting characters. He is very loyal, and his friendship with Woody is one of the more explored ones throughout the series.

Peter Pan

peter pan friends GIF

Peter Pan is (obviously) the title character of the film and the main focus. We are first introduced to him by the stories that Wendy Darling tells her brothers. Fantastical stories about pirates and adventure. This angers the children’s father, and Wendy is told she is too old to remain in the nursery. While the parents are out at a party, Peter Pan himself comes to their house in search of his shadow. Wendy offers to help him sew it back on. The pair begin to bond over stories, much to the chagrin of the jealous Tinkerbell. When Wendy expresses sadness over the need to “grow up”, Peter offers her the opportunity to come to Never Land with him where she never has to grow up! While there, she can act as mother to all of the lost boys. This idea excites her, and Peter and Tinkerbell

help the Darling children to fly.

On their journeys, they encounter the Lost Boys and face off against a pirate, Captain Hook. Michael and John Darling decide to venture off with the Lost Boys, while Peter takes Wendy to see the mermaids. The groups converge together once Peter needs to rescue Princess Tiger Lily from Captain Hook. During all of this, the Darling Children start to feel homesick. There is a final

confrontation with Captain Hook, and Peter and the children are victorious. While Peter Pan is the “boy who never grew up”, he does recognize the Darlings don’t want that same life. He takes the Darling children back to their home at the end of the movie, and returns to Never Land with the Lost Boys.

Peter is a character that symbolizes adventure and youth. While this character and movie are ones I never connected with personally, I understand their importance to some. I do feel bad cutting such a main character at this point, but he was my least favorite of those remaining.

Having to choose 4 characters that I love/like is painful, so my next set of nominations won't be pretty considering I am cutting my own immunity pick & only have 1 of them left. Anyway, I will update this later but Pascal is the cute little sidekick from Tangled - he is more than just a sidekick as he's actually seen as a major character throughout the movie. He doesn't really communicate verbally but he certainly give us a lot of facial expressions - he is the one that helps her to escape from the tower. He's always by her side & protects her from everything. Pascal has appeared in the different sequels & project related to Tangled, where he is the only animal to have his backstory explained. At the end of the day, he's way more than just a simple little chameleon which is how many of you guys think of him 🙂

Kevin (Up)

I presume Derek didn't save Kevin because he wanted me to cut Kevin after cutting the only one (1) good man in all of Disney canon. I will not be corrected or argued about that. David is the perfect Disney man and Disney boyfriend and should have been saved. I WILL REMEMBER THIS WHOMEVER NOMINATED. Any Kevin is a bird in Up. Sorry to her fan (Derek) but you brought Kevin far longer than like an animal who doesn't talk should make it in this rankdown. I don't remember much about Kevin (I honestly only remember Carl, Dug, and Rusell in Up) but looking her up I remember some things. Kevin is a female bird that Charles Muntz is hunting for. Russell finds her first and the adventures in the movie are kind of to save Kevin from Charles and eventually reunite her with her babies. I guess that's a pretty important role, but I think that you could insert any sort of character in for Kevin and it would work the same way. Because Up is really the story of Carl and Russell and how they relate and the emotional and familial connection they form. The other stuff is just the filling.
