Honestly, my memory of the oldest (pre-6) seasons gets fuzzier every year, so I’ll leave them out. Also, I’m keeping this reserved to the top 1-2 worst, especially if there were significantly better singers who should’ve made it there instead.

 

17. Shane Q (he didn't have a bad voice, but his nerves destroyed him, and “Caribbean Queen” is a classic that belongs in the Hall of Infamy)

16. Gyth Rigdon (although he blessed us with “God Bless the USA,” which is the most unintentionally hilarious performance in the show’s history - also, he only got 2nd because of his image; Dexter and Andrew were superior in every single way, and he has one of the thinnest, worst voices to make Top 12, much less second place, and no, I'm still not over it)

15. Tyke James (not even a debate), Reagan Strange (just super weak and inconsistent, although "You Are the Reason" wasn't bad)

14. Rayshunn Lamar (super inconsistent and messy, really unfortunate because I wanted to like him - literally anyone out of Drew Cole, Mia Boostrom, and Reid Umstaddt should have gotten in instead), Kaleb Lee (AGGRESSIVELY boring)

13. Ashland Craft (should’ve been Moriah Formica, but she really wasn't that bad - honestly, no one was this season)

12. Troy Ramey (for real, why did Gwen choose him?), Mark Isaiah

11. Courtney Harrell (never before has a contestant been more EXPOSED by a lack of producing and AutoTune)

10. Nick Hagelin (WHY did Christina bring him back?!?! And WHY did America vote for him when she did?!?!)

9. Zach Seabaugh (so plain, dull, boring, uninteresting), Braiden Sunshine (other than "Feeling Good," not a single redeemable performance)

8. Rob Taylor (I didn’t like him on The Voice, and I didn’t like him on American Idol this year - just… way too much falsetto, just save me)

7. Ryan Sill (WHY did Gwen save him?!)

6. Jake Worthington (how he got 2nd place in the same season as Sisaundra, Christina Grimmie, Delvin Choice, Kat Perkins, Audra McLaughlin, and Kristen Merlin… I will never understand)

S17: Shane Q (I actually like his BA a lot, but his nerves destroyed him and I will pop the champagne when Carribean Queen is finally pulled from the YouTube page so it stops appearing in my recommendations).

S16: Gyth Rigdon (peaked at his BA, battle wasn't bad, and then got slowly worse and worse. I can understand Andrew in 4th because of the Instant Save curse but Dexter deserved the runner-up slot over Gyth given the final four we had).

S15: Tyke James (Enough said).

S14: Rayshun LaMarr (Kaleb Lee was also not great, but at least Kaleb was consistently boring vs. Rayshun's being a giant mess of inconsistency).

S13: Ashland Craft (boring in a season stacked with talent).

 

Others: 

Mark Isaiah (S12), Aaron Gibson (S11), Nick Hagelin (S10), Braiden Sunshine (S9), and more I'm definitely not remembering right now.

You could also look at wikipedia and look who got 4 chairs, steals, etc. You could also look for your favorite songs and watch how the artist performed it on Youtube.

S3: Adriana Louise (pitchy all the way, her getting CS over De'Borah just confused me)
S4: Garrett Gardner
S5: Austin Jenckes
S6: Dani Moz (it's a shame, I liked her "Edge of Glory" though, but her over Clarissa Serna...)
S7: Ryan Sill (him over Beth Sprangler, Bryana Salaz...), Jessie Pitts (surprised that she made it this far)
S8: Brian Johnson
S9: Braiden Sunshine (HIM... over Lyndsey Elm? And then the same place as AMY VACHAL)
S10: Nick Hagelin, the fact he got the PV in PO... baffled me. (Tamar, Kata and Ryan were robbed)
S11: Aaron Gibson (I feel bad for him for having to sing in 3 IS in total)
S12: Mark Isaiah (Stephanie Rice was robbed)
S13: Ashland Craft (meh contestant, shouldn't have been chosen over Chloe, what was Miley thinking), Shi'Ann Jones (too throaty).
S14: Kaleb Lee (i agree, he's boring)
S15: Tyke James, I hate him. Lynnea Moorer because comeback artist (I love her Wolves cover tho, but other performances are meh)
S16: Gyth Rigdon 
S17: Shane Q
S18: Stacked season, I cannot choose. I think Megan Danielle
S19: Ben Allen (underwhelming compared to the rest)
S20: Rachel Mac, although I loved her growth and everything, overall an also stacked season
S21: Stacked season, I loved the T12 but I'd say Ryleigh Plank because she's the weakest :( I loved her BA tho.

No because this confuses me so much. What appeal did Nick have over Ryan? I get why Kata wouldn't appeal to Minivan at all, but Ryan really should've been the frontrunner that season.

S8: This T12 was STACKED, but I thought Deanna Johnson was the least interesting (sorry to her diehard fans)

S11: Aaron Gibson, Darby Walker, or Courtney Harrell (can't believe all 3 of them made it farther than Sa'Rayah)

S12: Mark Isaiah

S19: Ben Allen

S20: Maybe Rachel Mac?? She was my favorite that season, but there's nobody I would consider vocally weak from S20.

Guess I'll update from S18 onwards since I made that last comment almost 2 years ago:

 

S18: Megan Danielle (everyone was decent, she's really just the youngest/least experienced)

S19: Bailey Rae (her performances did not justify a top 9 placement)

S20: Rachel Mac (a fantastic growth arc, but still - everyone in the top 17 that season could have outsung her. Luckiest contestant in all 21 seasons for sure.)

S21: Ryleigh Plank (a big letdown to all)

Not a huge Rachel fan myself, but she did fine in the Top 17 live shows when so msny the other people flopped, so that counts for something. I wasn't impressed with anything she did after though.

Yeah I think she deserved one of the top 2 on her team based on that night alone, but I think if there were a circumstance with every contestant singing a song they actually chose/wanted to do/however they wanted to do it, she'd pale in comparison to all of them. I think on average, everyone else from that season's playoffs is a stronger performer.

Rachel did great with Rainbow, right in her wheelhouse. She did satisfactory with Human while Dana got a massive bus, and her finale stuff was forgettable.

Season 17- Cali (just shouldn’t have made it that far)

Season 18- Joana (never got her style)

Season 19- Bailey (absolute joke that she got the wildcard over Payge)

Season 20- Wheels (did the same thing every week and beat out Gihanna and Cory who both deserved the finals over him) 

Season 21- Lana (there’s 3 people I could have chosen for this one but I chose her because she’s country)

Seems to be unpopular, but I didn’t like her version of “Rainbow.” Was it better than her other performances? Yes.

I never really liked Rachel Mac. She did face a significant growth arc, but season 20’s finale was pretty weak. Cam deserved the win and I liked Jordan and Victor a fair amount (more than most of IDF), but having a combination of the four eliminated semifinalists would have made the finale much better.
