This is so scary to me. I’m immunocompromised and have a seven month old. I am so paranoid now. My stomach has been killing me all day and that’s not even a symptom but I keep worrying it could be for me 🙄 my daughter is supposed to get a shot next week but I’m thinking of postponing her appt because she’s perfectly healthy now and I don’t want to be risk exposing us.

Thankfully my husband is a coupon addict and had stocked up on TP and paper towels and Kleenex like four years ago so we are good there.

Those who watch the news probably already know this, but Chloroquine has been used since the 1940s to treat Malaria. Apparently, it’s effective for treating Coronavirus too. It prevents the virus from attaching to cells. It’s also inexpensive, and is not known to cause serious side effects. Doctors won’t prescribe it for Coronavirus yet, because they haven’t been given guidelines by the FDA, even though it’s currently being used in other countries, like Poland and Spain. They need to cut the red tape and get it done now.

You can read about it here, or dozens of other articles about the subject:

FYI …. Just passing on info, as I come across it

I think most people would be in favour of letting the government access everyone's mobile data to figure out exactly where people who have the virus have been and who they've come in contact with. I probably would be, and I consider myself an alarmist about surveillance capitalism. The problem is that that would become the new normal... to the extent it's not already, of course.

Whether it's that or military in the streets or having your temperature taken before you're allowed in places, there is probably some draconian stuff coming.

Maybe in Canada.

Not in the U.S.  Not a chance.

^ They basically already tacitly consent to it, by the terms and conditions they "agree to," and just in general by having a smartphone.

Who Apple shares the information with (without our permission) is a slippery slope. I’m not a lawyer, but I’m skeptical, especially since that tweet was posted by a member who follows conspiracy theorists. I’ve never given Apple my permission to share my location history with the government. I understand there are exceptions, such as in emergency situations, and for law enforcement reasons. Perhaps you’re right, but it’s disturbing, if true.

I don't know about as much about Apple--they're primarily a hardware company--but companies like Google and Facebook will use/share your data how they see fit, and deal with fines, if any even come, later. My point is that I think most people who use these company's products's thinking is "they're already using my data in ways I'm not aware of, so what difference does it make if it their data is being used for good in a pandemic?" Maybe not, I don't know. Anyways, we're getting off topic.

My state (Indiana) now has the stay at home order and I highly doubt Kohl’s is considered an essential service for work so another week without work for me...

Update in my home state of MN

-4680 tested

-235 confirmed cases (5% of those tested)

-1 death

-8 have been hospitalized. Of those, 5 have been released.

There’s been a testing shortage in my state for about a week, so there are certainly many more infected people out there. They’re only testing those with moderate to severe symptoms and health care workers. The good news is that only 5% of those individuals are testing positive for the COVID-19.

The Governor is in self quarantine after someone in his security detail tested positive.

Reports are that Austin will follow suit and mandate all non essential services closed tomorrow.  Gov. Abbott is leaving the decision up to the mayors of individual cities, since there are still over 100 counties in the state with 0 confirmed cases.

There is something important in here I think.  The number of positive tests compared to total test is low.  Here in Texas, as of yesterday, about 8700 tests had been administered with about 360 being positive.  6 deaths.  And I hope people can find a little comfort in knowing that contracting this disease is not a death sentence.  The vast majority of those infected are experiencing only minor symptoms and are able to recover at home.  A ray of hope.  Let's hope that it continues that way.

Right, that’s the reason I posted the numbers. Consider that they are only testing people with moderate to severe symptoms, consistent with COVID-19, and 95% of them are determined to have some other illness. Meanwhile, our economy is shut down, and some people are literally afraid to leave their homes. It’s bad in New York, and a few other hot spots, but most of the country has very few reported cases, or none at all.

I would encourage you to read this paper, written by Dr. Fauci three weeks ago, where he stated that the true fatality rate could be well below 1%, since there are so many asymptomatic cases, in addition to those with mild symptoms. Those cases are not included in the statistics, since they don’t get tested. He even went as far as to say that the total clinical effect could be akin to a severe seasonal influenza.

This is all about managing the load on the health care system during flu season, not “stopping” the virus. They’re attempting to spread the infections out over a longer period of time. Eventually, we’ll have effective treatment options and a vaccine. Hopefully soon.

Mercifully, the LCBO and The Beer Store have been deemed essential. I've read that health officials worry about people getting creative if you take away their access to legal toxins.

Nope, they're staying open. Limited hours though. Close at 6 I think.
