The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday said it had advised COVID-19 vaccine companies to produce an updated vaccine for this fall, an aim to give people broader and stronger immunity in an upcoming booster campaign ahead of the winter.

 

FDA selected a vaccine that will include two strains of COVID, the original Wuhan strain and the most recent omicron sub variants, BA.4 and BA.5, which [are] currently making up the majority of cases.

 

Both Pfizer and Moderna plan to have doses available by October and November.

 

 

The government has already purchased $3.2 billion worth of vaccines from Pfizer, which amounts to 105 million doses. The order includes doses for adults, adolescents and children.

 

The contract came with an option to order an additional 195 million doses, bringing the total to 300 million, which would nearly cover the U.S. population.

 

The government is likely to also contract with Moderna.

If the GOP gains a congressional majority after the midterm elections, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) said Senate Republicans will subpoena National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci's records and he will testify under oath. President Biden's Chief Medical Advisor responded to the prospect during CNN's "New Day" Tuesday by saying, "Well, there's no reason to do that, but if they want to, go ahead. My records are an open book."

It's unlikely his testimony would be any different than the inconsistent so-called "scientific" advice he's given throughout the pandemic or the lies he's told before.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky tested positive Friday night, is self-isolating, and has "mild symptoms." Many media sites are simply reporting that she "is up to date on her vaccinations." To be more specific, Walensky received the bivalent, omicron-specific COVID-19 booster shot on 09/22/22 at a CVS pharmacy. She was not at the White House late this week and did not meet with any senior U.S. officials before testing positive. She attended the World Health Summit in Berlin on Monday and Tuesday. A spokesperson said that she wore a mask at all times except when eating or publicly speaking. Walensky returned to the US on Wednesday.
