Does Lionel overtake JLo as being the worst judge ever?

JLo was horribly biased, unfair and uninteresting... especially the way she treated Alex Preston and tried to bus him until the last second...

 

Then you've got Lionel who is unbelievably dull and boring... yet he also manages to be nasty as well which is an insane combination. 

 

Who do you think is worse? I'll have to see more of this season, but I actually think that Lionel is going to be the worst Idol judge ever.

I think he was trying to help him, as I said previously in the other thread. I like Nick a lot and I want the voters too as well.

He's not stupid... he could have said it in a much better way. Even Katy didn't go so far but she got her point across well enough.

I liked J.Lo as a judge, though.

While I think this whole panel is pretty much useless, at the end of the day, Idol's a reality show and they're going to edit things to come across a certain way - especially since they've already taped all of the pre-live shows. We're probably going to see some time of ~redemption~ storyline for Nick in Hollywood week, and Lionel will be the one who advances him into the Top 20 or whatever. Just like with Uché the year before.

Ehhh I don't dislike a judge if they dislike my favourites. I dislike them if they can't articulate their point in a way which shows respect.

Lionel said that to Nick to get the point across that not everyone is going to be head over heels in love with him. Nick is probably used to constant praise and compliments.

Nope.  Lionel Ritchie and Jennifer Lopez are actually 2 of the better judges the show has had. 

 

There was a poll here not too long ago, the worse would easily be Ellen, Mariah, Nikki and Harry wasn't very popular.

I think Lionel might be better suited to the mentor role that they insist on giving Bobby Bones. He seems to enjoy giving hugs and pep talks much more than critiquing singing. 
 

move him over to that role, and get a more judge-like judge on the panel.

Did you not hear what he said? He tried to vilify Nick but actually showed himself to be the villain. 

 

I honestly couldn't believe what I was hearing when he made those comments.

Nick isn't god's gift so he can get some criticism just like the rest of them can.

 

 

Lionel is one of the better judges. As was Jennifer... So yeah. Totally useless thread. IMO

There's criticism then there's just being plain nasty.

Listen to Kelly talk about some of the things said to her by the record label coming out of Idol and see if you think what Lionel said is nasty.

 

The judges on Idol and The Virus treat these contestants with kiddie gloves compared to how other people would talk to them.

We can have different opinions. I disagree with yours is all. Sorry if that came across too harsh. Wasn't my intention.  

 

 

I think we all get protective of those we like on the show so much sometimes that we forget that not everything they do warrants applause... If that makes sense.

I don't doubt that some of the things that have been said to artists within the years have been nasty. We're not trying to see who has had the worst here. Whatever way you look at it, Lionel didn't need to speak to Nick the way in which he did. 

 

The Voice... I would agree with you and say they're not hard enough on them because they hardly ever get critiqued. Idol is different.

The way I look at it is that it’s a whole lot of hoopla about nothing. Did I think Nick came across as arrogant? Not really. But clearly the judges did and it’s their job to comment about it.

 

Also keep in mind he never showed up to Hollywood last week and never properly withdrew. There’s probably a reason the judges seemed so lukewarm on him.
