Had it recorded & just finished watching it.  There were some ok ones this night.  The 14 yr old, Levi, was impressive.  Arei sounded good & has heaps of 'style'.  But, the shocker was Toneisha picking Blake 😮  In a million years, never expected that or didn't see it coming, not even a bit. You just never know with The Voice... can, really, have some surprises sometimes.

Actually, Toneisha picking Blake is no longer a shocker. Diva artists like her really thrived on Team Blake seeing Sisaundra Lewis, Keisha Renee, Kyla Jade, Aliyah Moulden, Spensha Baker  guaranteed to have made it to at least the semi-finals, or even the finale with the last three (they were saved by public vote, by the way). Toneisha knows how to strategize because she knows that she will stand out on Blake's team composed of mostly country singers.

C'mon Audra......who's got the best personality?  Who brings the most joy & laughter to every episode? Who's the funniest coach?  Who is the best entertainer? And who is the best singer by a bazillion miles?

Nick's not the answer to any of those questions.

eta - In fact - it's Kelly Clarkson's world and we're just living in it.

You wouldn't happen to know a guy named tidetoit, would you?

Yes, point taken... certainly, it may well be a very smart/clever move.

This has been obvious for quite some time! He’s Kelly’s biggest fan!

I wouldn't say I'm Kelly's biggest fan but I am a fan.

Cranberrys is not an alter.  When this site changed formats it would not let me back sign in as Tidetoit.  I had to create another user account.

I figured it was something like that. Glad you got it worked out. It’s less boring here with you around.  👍

The first one is sort of funny, I guess. I was so bored with the episode, I zoned out and missed the others. Haha....a delayed laugh!

This show is badly missing the Blake-Adam dynamic, IMO.

I kinda miss the Blake-Adam show. The Blake-Kelly rivalry is just not the same IMO. But it is what it is. S20 would probably be it for this show.

Three Points:

1.  The Voice cable broadcast ratings adjusted to the new demographic of "chord cutting" american consumers are GREAT.  Why on earth would NBC consider canceling a #1 show?

2.  Kelly has beaten Blake black & blue - upside down - and twisted him every which way but loose in every metric since she joined The Voice.  She adds 10 times more singing talent, God-given wit, humor, and joyful texture than Adam Levine ever could.

3.  What The Voice has that American Idol doesn't have is wall-to-wall humor.  The contestants can be bad and The Voice will still be good because it's funny - LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY with Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton in the cast.    American Idol is NOT funny.

eta - They should change The Voice designation from a Singing Competition to a Comedy. jk

etaa - This Forum doesn't represent the home viewing audience (HVA).  This Forum is 95% about the contestants.  The HVA is 95% about the Coaches.  The Voice is built around the Coaches and their entertainment skills much more than the contestants.  The Voice has evolved into a total entertainment vehicle based mainly on the personalities & professional skills of the Coaches with the added spices of ever changing contestants - a perfect combination of drama, art, and humor.  If I had to bet on it I'd wager The Voice stays on major network television until television is no longer a viable entertainment platform.

I agree with this.  I can't tell you why, but for some reason the Kelly/Blake thing doesn't work as well as Adam/Blake did.  MO of course.

In fact, I know its early but this may be the worst coaching panel we've had in a while imo.  Kelly is just so extra 100% of the time.  John is boring.  Nick may mean well, but he's cringey AF.  Blake just looks tired.

It's still early so I wouldn't call it the worst coaching panel yet. I can think of a season or two that beats this season in the "worst panel" category. But coaching panel aside, if the talent pool is superior, most people would kinda forget about how forced the panel interactions are. The problem I have with this season is, the talent pool is mid-pack at best, compared to other seasons.

A day in my small slice of the "real world".

Liz, my barber is a 59 year old small business (Hair Salon) owner.  I'm a male - and Liz has been my barber when I'm in New Orleans (I split time between other residences) for about 15 years.  Most of Liz's clients are female but she has a healthy number of male clients as well.  Liz is divorced with one adult daughter, who's a realtor married to a Physician, and two grandchildren in exclusive private schools. Liz lost a son (a pilot) serving in the military in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan more than 10 years ago.

I got a haircut last Friday - I hadn't seen Liz in about 3 months. Liz's daughter was there getting her hair cut & colored - her 16 year old daughter was with her getting a haircut.   The primary topic of conversation in the salon (about 15 people) before and while I was there was the upcoming Premiere of The Voice.  The conversation revolved around the Coaches.  Liz' granddaughter is a Nick Jonas fan and she kept telling Alexa to play Jonas Brothers songs - Liz made her turn it down.  Liz is a Kelly Clarkson fan and she knew a surprising amount of personal information about Kelly & her family.  Liz' daughter is also a KC fan - who went to Kelly's Meaning of Life Tour stop in Memphis with her daughter.  Liz and her daughter went to Kelly & Reba's 2 Voices 2 Worlds tour 10 or 12 years ago.  Liz' granddaughter is a Kelly Clarkson fan too but she's all about Nick Jonas this season.  There were other conversations going on in the salon I couldn't quite hear but several people chimed in about The Voice too.  There were two Blake Shelton fans.  Liz's son-in-law (the Physician) is Jewish as is Liz' granddaughter.  The granddaughter said Kelly had recorded a new song in Hebrew (among other languages) and she was going to premiere it on The Voice soon.  That was news to me.  (How would she know that?)

The point of this post is I went to get a haircut at a salon I've been patronizing for 15 years.  I didn't bring up Kelly Clarkson but overheard this long conversation, from a group of 7 or 8 people about the Coaches on The Voice and the upcoming season Premiere - but I didn't hear a single word about Adam Levine or past, present, or future contestants.

How could the conversation have been about “present” contestants if the premiere hadn’t happened yet? And since they were talking about the upcoming premiere, why would they talk about Adam Levine? If he was still a coach on the show, he probably would have come up in the conversation. The same thing applies to past contestants. They wouldn’t come up in a discussion about the upcoming premiere. We all know the coaches are the primary draw for the audience anyway.

I don't think this forum gives enough credit or focuses enough time on the Coaches.  I don't watch The Voice for the contestants anymore - maybe a little but only as they relate to the Coach mentoring them.  The contestants are the kindling - the coaches are the logs that fuel the fire.  I realized a few years ago the unscripted genuine wit & humor on The Voice was what attracted me to the show.   For the same reason I lost interest in Idol.

It AMAZES me most people on message boards (this one and many others) don't focus on The Voice's Coaches and their humor the way at home viewers do.  The Coaches play an integral role in who wins.  Some coaches are great mentors & are great at making song & arrangement choices & giving vocal advice. Others not so much.

There surely must be others who are tuning in for the sake of the music, the performances and the results OF THAT, rather than the unrelated drama or other filler

I'm sure there are music purists who watch mainly for the contestants and the competition between them.  But after 17 seasons NBC has realized what makes The Voice so popular is the "live audience" Blinds and the Coaches chemistry during their reactions to the auditions.  It doesn't bother me if you disagree - but it's definitely not "filler".   To me The Voice would be BORING without the Coaches chemistry and the funny fireworks that happen when they're fighting for a contestant.  That's why the ratings fall after the Blinds are over.

People take what appeals to them from the show.  But in the end The Voice is a business venture - a for-profit television show.  What makes the most profit is the Coaches chemistry.

I do include the artsits/contestants picking a Coach which, includes the Coaches comments & efforts.  That part is fun & interesting.  I used to watch it all. If one, really, interests me, I'll likely watch more related footage for that contestant.

That makes a lot more sense and I see you realize the Coaches do play an integral role in the entertainment value of the show.
