6. Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber - “I Don't Care”

 

Kicking off the 2nd to last set is Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber’s big hit collaboration kicks off this set at #6 with “I Don't Care.” Ed and Justin are also no strangers of being in my Year-End Top 10, as I believe this make Ed’s 3rd time and Justin’s 2nd time making this Top 10 section of my list. It’s pretty cool that Ed & Justin worked on a song together, with both of them singing on it together. I know that they work on “Love Yourself,” which Ed wrote (and I assumed produced?) with Justin singing the track, so it’s nice having them together on “I Don't Care.” I believe this was one of those songs I first heard of/a lot about on various news and entertainment news shows with buzz of the song and Justin returning to music and all of that. I had a feeling this song would be a huge hit and unsurprisingly that proved to be true. Ed & Justin knows how to make hits and this song is a jam. I love the tropical house feel of this song and it has a fun jammy vibe even though some lyrics aren’t so fun. Aww Ed’s opening lyric singing I'm at a party I don't wanna be at makes me a bit sad for him. From his first verse, I do like how he sings Can you take my hand? Finish my drink, say, "Shall we dance?” (Hell, yeah) and You make it better like that. But then I like it even more how he builds up the song more on the pre-chorus on the Don't think I fit in at this party. Everyone's got so much to say (Yeah) part. Of course I absolutely love and bop out to the chorus at 0:41 which goes: 'Cause I don't care when I'm with my baby, yeah. All the bad things disappear. And you're making me feel like maybe I am somebody. I can deal with the bad nights. When I'm with my baby, yeah. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, oooh, ooh. So fun to sing along to. But about that chorus… I LOVE those Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh” parts at 0:57. I find that part really cute and fun and yeah it’s one of my top favorite parts. Justin sings on the 2nd verse and I really like his part as a whole too. Although aww at Justin starting off that verse with We at a party we don't wanna be at. That’s sad. I do like how he sings I'm crippled with anxiety. But I'm told it's where I'm supposed to be and It's kinda crazy 'cause I really don't mind. When you make it better like that. Then I also really like how he sings his pre-chorus section at 1:39 that goes: Don't think we fit in at this party. Everyone's got so much to say, oh yeah, yeah. Ed’s and Justin’s parts are similar but different with what they’re singing - Ed’s more in a singular perspective while Juistin’s is more in a duo/multiple person perspective. The breakdown section on the bridge at 2:35 kinda bops though. I don't like nobody but you, it's like you're the only one here. I don't like nobody but you, baby, I don't care. I DON’T LIKE NOBODY BUT YOU. Then the song continues on being fun and jammy toward the end and  yeah I love it a ton. I certainly heard this song a ton throughout 2019 and mostly I never got tired of it so that is a good thing! Ooh and never saw this music video but omggg it’s the weirdest, cheesiest and funniest thing ever….. but i kinda enjoy it regardless.

 

 

5. Ariana Grande - “7 rings”

 

Making it in my Top 5 songs of the year for the second year in a row is Ariana Grande with “7 rings” at #5. As many of you may or may not remember, Ariana did make it to #2 with “no tears left to cry” on my list in 2018 and “7 rings” may not have feared as well but it still has an impressive showing. Okay so kinda like with what I said about “I Don’t Care,” I first heard of and knew of Ariana’s “7 rings” from various news and entertainment news shows I watch where there was a lot of buzz and talk of this latest Ariana single (at the time) and it was at the beginning of January. This song has more of that urban trap feel to it and quite different from most of Ariana’s material, so I was a bit unsure of what to think of this on the first few listens. I do want to say I liked it regardless though? I’m not sure, but point is that I did grow to love this song quickly and think this song is a really hot jam! I love the The Sound of Music’s “My Favorite Things” sample in the opening verse which is SOOO unexpected and that melody here had me like whoa. But I think it’s kinda genius and clever, and I really love it. Breakfast at Tiffany's and bottles of bubbles. Girls with tattoos who like getting in trouble. Lashes and diamonds, ATM machines. Buy myself all of my favorite things. I love that part and also have to say, she sounds sooo gorgeous and angelic on those parts. I also love the part where she sings: Been through some bad s**t, I should be a sad b**ch. Who would have thought it'd turn me to a savage?. Just so much sass and attitude, and I love it! Although I misheard things so wrong and sometimes would hear “sad b” as “Savage” and savage” as “sad b” particular the latter example is what I hear more. But yeah Ariana has been through a lot but i love how it’s turned her to a savage! Ooh and the Write my own checks like I write what I sing part is really good too. That chorus does jam sooo hard tho. You like my hair? Gee, thanks! Just bought it. I see it, I like it. I want it, I got it. Yeah. I want it, I got it. I want it, I got it. I mean there’s not toooo much to the chorus but it’s addicting to me and i love it and find it so fun. From the second verse, Ariana absolutely kills me on the line where she sings: Wearin' a ring but ain't gon' be no "Mrs." Bought matching diamonds for six of my b***hes, which always sticks out to me. But wow Ariana got it LIKE THAT, huh? Oooh also forgot to mention i love those pre-chorus she sings too that goes: My smile is beamin’. My skin is gleamin’. The way it shine. I know you've seen it.You've seen it - it’s like she sings it slow and emphasizes on those parts. Oooh then I really love that part on the bridge at 2:18 where Ariana sings Shoot. Go from the store to the booth. Make it all back in one loop Gimme the loot. Never mind, I got the juice. Nothin' but net when we shoot. Look at my neck. Look at my jet. Ain't got enough money to pay me respect. That part kills me and gets me SO HYPE. It’s like she’s rapping there but yeah she  goes in so hard at that part. That part of the song (and even this song as a whole) reminds me of the songs they would do on the FOX Drama Star, which I really loved and ugh so mad they cancelled that. I’m impressed that this video has over 693 million views and more views than “thank u, next.” But yea “7 rings” is a hot jam with a fun colorful video and i just love it all a ton.

 

 

4. Sam Smith & Normani - “Dancing With A Stranger”

 

Sam Smith & Normani gorgeous collaboration of “Dancing With A Stranger” closes this set out at #4. I remember Sam Smith from a couple years ago being a big Fifth Harmony fan, and ah wow I think it’s really cool how Sam collaborated with one of the 5H girls, Normani on this track. Celebs dreams coming true! :Teehee: “Dancing With A Stranger” is a beautiful mid-tempo track, like it’s not too upbeat and dancey but not a slow song so right in between of course. Sam has a fantastic voice which we all know and showcases that really well in this song. I love Sam’s whole first verse as a whole, but the standout parts for me would be those  I don't want to be alone tonight, alone tonight, alone tonight parts. Then I really love the chorus with Sam singing: Look what you made me do, I'm with somebody new. Ooh, baby, baby, I'm dancing with a stranger. Look what you made me do, I'm with somebody new. Ooh, baby, baby, I'm dancing with a stranger. Dancing with a stranger. It kinda has a mix of and :bye2: to it. Normani sings the 2nd verse and I love her part too. She brings a sultry huskiness vibe to the song with how she sings her part. I really love how she sings her opening part that goes: I wasn't even going out tonight (Out tonight). But, boy, I need to get you off of my mind (Off of my mind). I also love how she sings the chorus but no need to re-quote those lyrics again. Ooh and even with a slower song, Normani still tears it up with her dancing! The bridge at 2:32 is another one of my top favorite parts where Sam & Normani sings - well Sam first and then Normani joins in on the part that goes: Look what you made me do, I'm with somebody new. Ooh, baby, baby, I'm dancing with a stranger. I especially love it where they both sing that part together at 2:42! SOO good! But yayy this is such a great duet from Sam Smith & Normani, and I am glad they made it happen.

- Yesss at thinking of 7 rings as a bop. I do as well.  I'm probably one of the very few that prefers 7 rings over thank u, next - but I love both. Yayy for loving this era from her.

5. Ariana Grande - “7 rings:” A more appropriate title for this song by the Overbearing Diva, Jr. (Mariah Carey) would be "7 flops". Most of the song goes "I want it, I got it" with very little singing to it.

I love that Ed and Justin worked together, as in actually recorded a song together this time!  I remember seeing their Instagram posts that this was coming and I was intrigued. Oooh "tropical house" is a good description, even though I don't really know what it is. But I get it.  The song is fun and they have a carefree attitude because... they don't care!   I didn't even really think of the first lyric as sad cause the music's already on and going and they're not gonna care anyway.   I agree about the pre-chorus and that's one of my favorites.  Yay the oooh oohs!  "Although aww at Justin starting off that verse with We at a party we don't wanna be at. That’s sad." You said this already (about Ed's line).  But yes, I see how the perspective changes from Ed's part to Justin's. I like these parts you mentioned and yay for bopping! Yeah, this song was played like CRAZY. OMG. Maybe the most heard song for me on radio? It's definitely up there. The video is fun.  

 

5. Ariana Grande - “7 rings:” Where did I predict this? Ooh #6, so I was close. Of course I remember NTLTC ranked up there last year and I love that song. No idea where that ranks among all her songs for me, but you know this one is near the bottom.   I love Ariana, but not so much some of her latest releases. "urban trap"  love these descriptions of the songs and they made sense. Why is the sample genius? But I love how it's incorporated into the song and how she sings on those slower parts.  "Just so much sass and attitude, and I love it!" Funny you say this because I feel like she doesn't sing those parts with attitude or sass at all... it's almost like monotone, but the sass can be in the lyrics. Oh wow your mishearings.  This chorus was not my favorite, although it did grow on me and I enjoy it more now. She's so much better than this though and wish she'd showcase it.  I love this bridge part you named too though... and omg another gimme the loot line.   Surprise you didn't mention that.  Wow, this has more views than TUN? I wouldn't expect that.

The vibe of this song is really cool and wow, I feel like I had such a journey with this song I don't even know how to explain. It's complicated.  I love their vocals on this and the feel of it... I feel like this grew on me really slowly, but it had time to, since it was around for so long. I love the parts you named too. "It kinda has a mix of  and :bye2: to it. " I get that too. I agree with pretty much all you're saying here. "no need to re-quote those lyrics again." lol but don't you usually? Oh yes, the bridge is so good and I love when they sing together too. This is really good.

Ooooh thanks for listing all of these here. Ooh I thought i listed the Andy Gramme song. But yeah I do like a number/most of these songs but I didn’t hear them enough / forgot about these too. Ugh me. Although I thought the Selena song was a promo single so I didn’t include that one.

I know, I just don't remember the thing about ranking a song lower when you love it more than ones above. I know the feeling of how a song could be higher if it was in only one year. I'll have to look for this on the remainder of my list.

Yeah the Intentions video came out last week and a shorter version came out a day ago, than ks to my YT search telling me. Ooh No Good sounds kinda older, which I don't mind. Ooh I was considering linking the lyric video but decided not to. Ooh  I haven't heard Salt and I haven't head OTY ither and I didn't know if that song was a single or not - I only list and rank singles, as it's tough for me to factor in album tracks.

Oooh i thought i mentioned this on past years lists. Camila’s Havana and Never Be the Same is a great example, as I love Havana more overall despite having NBTS higher with that song having its run for one year. Oooh yess ma’am. And lemme know.

Curious on this last sentence you have on this song, and she did perform it on the Grammys so maybe familiar to you from there?
