It's the members that make the site what it was, and is today, and we're forever thankful for each and every one of you. The first few years of Idolforums saw incredible member growth and traffic which resulted in us consistently being able to upgrade our software and hardware. At it's peak, we were operating numerous web servers and actually had enough banner ad revenue to cover all operating costs. For the past 5+ years we (Buzz and I) have been bringing in no revenue and have been running the site entirely out of our own pockets. We didn't mind because we enjoy being able to run the site, but it did mean we had no budget to do anything but keep it operational. The recent crash and loss of posts was both tragic and unfortunate, but we're looking on the positive side in that it provided us with an opportunity to finally look into upgrading the forum. The previous massive size of our database made attempting to migrate before extremely difficult, and it was one of the main reasons why the site never received any updates (I mean it's 2019 and we still don't have a responsive design). We've been looking into different solutions, and it hasn't been easy given the age of our current software and custom modifications to the site. The migration options are very limited, and as we've recently found out, more costly than expected. Buzz has finally come up with a solution that will work, and we're hoping that some members of the community might be willing to help chip in towards the cost of the new software, migration fees, and cloud hosting/server costs. We'll be fronting as much of the costs as we can ourselves, but every little bit helps and will help speed up how quickly we can upgrade, and ensure we can continue to operate the site moving forward. As far as I know there's no way to turn them on/off based on a members usergroup so not at the moment.
