***Chevel Shepherd Fan Thread***

Recommended Posts

I, too, like/liked the song, a lot!  I agree & have long had the same concern regarding popularity of (true) "Classic Country", these days.  Ergo, going more the direction of what we are hearing is all good & she does it so VERY well.

It's not Country, but, if you want check out high quality youth, The Warning fills the bill.  The band has a thread here, too. (Only mention it to explain my photo )

According to her Facebook page , she now has a publicist. The person representing her is the owner of the company. They have quite a few big name clients, and also represent the Ryman Auditorium and Blake’s Ole Red bars. She’s not listed on the roster yet, but Ebie McFarland is listed as the contact person on her Facebook page. This is a good sign.

She also reposted on Facebook this morning to expect new music in “early 2020.”  It seems like things are happening right now. She’s in Nashville.

Big news Chevel is releasing two songs on March 20th. "Momma Got the Chair" and "Everybody's Got a Story" (written by Shane McAnally, Kacey Musgraves, and Brandy Clark). Yet another article from CRS in a major publication, props to Chevel's PR team:

Since her victory, Shepherd has been traveling back and forth between her hometown of Farmington, N.M., and Nashville as she embarks on her new career. On March 20, she’s independently releasing two new songs, “Everybody’s Got a Story” (written by McAnally, Kacey Musgraves and Brandy Clark) and “Mama Got the Chair” (written by Nora Collins, Nick Donley and Shepherd’s fellow “Voice” contestant Dave Fenley). Not only did Clarkson help acquire such coveted co-writers, but she got Shepherd studio time to record her coming EP at Starstruck Entertainment, owned by Clarkson’s father-in-law, Narvel Blackstock.

Good to hear! I’ve heard the “Chair” song many times. Looking forward to hearing the studio. That song has a story that goes along with it, so people can understand the meaning. I haven’t heard the 2nd one, though. Those are obviously A-list writers on that one.

I wonder what their game plan is, going forward? Given that she has a top PR person on board, they just have something up their sleeves.

Great news! :ohyeah:

I was expecting "Around The World" but I'm good with whatever song they are planning to release.

She was interviewed by Rolling Stone in Nashville for this piece about gender inequality on country radio.

Oh my, what a very solid article & so cool to see Chevel so involved.  It, sure is a situation that needs t/must change, SOON, indeed.

“I‘m proud to be a female country singer and am proud of the music the women in this format continue to create,” says Shepherd, who turned down the record deal that accompanied her Voice win so she could make a traditional country album more true to her vision.

First of all, the audio on these is terrible. But, it’s gives general idea of the songs. She’s clearly going for the Kacey/Brandy storytelling route with these, which works for me, and there’s a market for that. I’m sure she’ll release the country rock style songs later.

“Everybody’s got a Story”

I can’t make out many of the lyrics, but it definitely seems like something Kacey would write. It should be good.

“Momma Got the Chair”

"Mama..." isn't problem.  I had listen to it long ago.  But, not having such good luck with "Everybody's..."  Is it a cover of this?...

Holy crap! Good find. It’s unreleased, though, so not technically a “cover”.....depending on your definition. I searched iTunes and couldn’t find a Kacey version.

Here are the lyrics

Here it is in a more intimate setting. You can hear the lyrics better. I think  this is a Kacey song from before anyone knew who she was, and it didn’t make it on her album. That’s pretty freaking cool. It’s a really good song.

Ok, I wasn't, absolutely, certain it was this same song that Chevel was releasing, if so, she will nail it.  It's sort of ironic since someone had just suggested Chevel sounded a bit Kacey-esque or should that be Kacey-ish 😉😂  The one I had found was from 8 years ago.  That's before she was a household name.  When I found it I, also, noticed she did some songs with John Prine... I hadn't realised he became so fat as he aged.  They do Illegal Smile together, for one.  And not recent, at all.

Independent can work, too.  Especially, if you want your complete artistic freedom & that's why she said "No".  The Warning is 100% independent for the very same reason & have turned down offers for the same reason.  Chevel said she'd stay true to what she wanted & it's very cool she is, glad to see she is sticking to her beliefs.

After consulting with the resident Kacey expert, the song was a hidden track on Same Trailer Different Park, so technically “unreleased.”

Yes, even, when you find the listed tracks for that album, it's not there

If it is 'public domain' & up for grabs..

If so, that means it will be release as a Chevel song & will be known as a Chevel song... although, here's why I was uncertain, at 1st.  There is another song with the same title, but, it's not this one, it's the Kacey song.

I cannot find much about Kacey's song, as far as listed anywhere, but, here are the lyrics

Yeah, not the same song. I checked that out earlier when I was searching around. Song titles get reused all the time.

Also...keep in mind, some hardcore Kacey fans will probably be sensitive about this. They will still consider it Kacey’s song. I totally understand, and I’m sure Chevel will too. The more casual Kacey/country fans probably won’t know the song.

This isn’t the only Kacey song Chevel has. Apparently, Kacey/Shane/Brandy have dozens of unreleased songs.

Many, too, will hear it for the first time from & by Chevel...never to be thinking of or even aware of anything else.  The only connection most will make is to Chevel.

I know, but Kacey and her co-writers are doing Chevel an enormous favor here, and she has a lot of hardcore fans. All I’m saying is it’s best to tiptoe around it. Chevel will probably say Kacey wrote it every time she performs it.

It's good it's not the Amanda Marshall one 🤣

Com'on laugh, that's ⬆ funny 😏

Anyway, having heard Kacey do it, I am very much excitedly looking forward to hearing Chevel's rendition❗ She will do a smashing job on it. No question about it.
