Noticed that Blake hasn't said anything in regards to BLM. Gwen, and all of the other coaches have. The only thing he did is just posted a tweet and an IG story. Granted, he doesn't really post anything on social media that much.

His tweet on social media was about it though. Permanent change is pretty far for a country artist. Are you just upset he didn’t use a hashtag? Or post a black square?

He posts basically nothing personal, the show stuff is handled by pr. Suddenly expecting him to start posting a lot on social media seems odd.

Nah. Nowhere near upset. It was just something I noticed in regards to his response.

Ok, well coming on here to say you noticed he didn’t post anything, when he did, seems odd

And hey maybe my expectations are just low from hanging out in country land, but the number of people who have said basically nothing over there (or only posted a square) is really high (Eric, Miranda, Carrie, Luke, Chris...I could go on).

(Also from some stuff Adam has said, I’d guess his personal politics are more libertarian apathetic, but his fanbase is definitely conservative)

Two of the S15 finalists (Both voices I grew to appreciate a lot more after their season) did not post anything in regards to the whole situation. And surprisingly, they haven't gotten that much backlash from any social media site. At all.

To be fair if they're the ones I'm thinking of, the genre of music they produce generally has more politically conservative fans, so I'd expect more controversy if they did speak up than with the silence on their ends. Not saying that to excuse their silence (because they have big enough fanbases that speaking up would make a difference), but not wanting to alienate fans in a fickle industry while using your platform for good is a tricky business indeed. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Kirk and Chris are the two he was referring to, unless I missed something. Does it mean they don’t care? Not necessarily.

Chevel posted a couple things on FB, Twitter and IG, with the #TheShowMustBePaused hashtag, and I didn’t see any backlash, other than a couple people complaining about her suggesting prayer. If anyone is expecting a 17 year old female country singer to go full BLM on social media, you’re being unrealistic.

Does it count if she only posted the black square on her story?

Didn't expect that from Blake, but I'm glad he tweeted that. The ones pretending that nothing is happening rn are the worst for me.

As far as I´m concerned, Todd T. , Jake Hoot, Andrew Sevener, Kaleb Lee , Pryor Baird ( in their instagram account called "Pryor and Lee) all have posted something, and their fanbase is mostly conservative as a whole. Dunno about the others.

Checking the IG and Twitter feeds of all the S17 finalists - all four have spoken about the matter on at least one of those platforms, with Rose being the most vocal (unsurprising given she's the lone black member of that group).

As for S18, Todd T. participated in the blackout on his IG, Micah's posted some resources on Twitter, and all of the other finalists have posted various statements on both platforms.

Despite this being a show with a lot of conservative fans, it’s inspiring that most of the contestants are speaking out, and even more so that their conservatives fans listen and sometimes speak out too! I have hope that this movement could spark a true change partially thanks to those speaking out

Please stop using "conservative" as dog whistle for racist.  That is ignorant, presumptive and globally demeaning.  If you mean racist, say that.  If you mean people in denial about their privilege....say that.  Being fiscally and/or morally conservative does not make you a racist.

I'm actually not surprised at a lot of my snowflakes speaking out about it with a couple of exceptions. While some may more or less know the audience of The Voice USA, I think the majority of their fanbase are young people with open-minded views(as all people should be)

But regarding to Kirk and Chris not posting, Kirk is surprising me on that tbh, yes he's country, but he is black too and trying to stand back and pretend nothing is happening ESPECIALLY for your race, is just plain wrong. Chris doesn't surprise me lmao.

While yes "conservative" as a term for racists overall is a bit ignorant, I don't want to bash anyone who is angry about the issues at hand about that. We need to just focus on obtaining justice as efficiently as possible. Not all traditional/conservative people are completely close-minded though, just to agree on that though.

I agree.

Also, just because someone didn’t post about it on social media doesn’t mean they don’t care. Everyone has their own way of dealing with things, and ways of expressing themselves. Honestly, after looking at the comments under Sawyer’s Facebook post on the matter, I wouldn’t blame him if he never posts anything like this again. Here’s a sample.

Even Blake caught a little flack for his tweet, but nothing compared to what I read under Sawyer’s post.

Facebook can rot in its tragic audience/demographic. I'm not saying for everyone to post there(in fact maybe they shouldn't"t) but we all know it isn't anything compared to IG/Twitter/Snapchat, etc. I just hope The Voice Alum or anyone else trying to fight with BLM who has a fanbase, doesn't get discouraged when Facebook goes all crazy. Lmao, Facebook IS crazy, never try to fight with them. In fact, delete your account there if you are tired of the audience.

Well, they went after him on IG too, but to a much lesser extent.

It is ultimately his call if he wants to post something or not. I don't want him to be forced to do so. But then again, like what @TeamAudra said, it doesn't mean he doesn't care about it.

The thing about Sawyer is he probably doesn’t read the comments, and even if he does, he probably doesn’t care what anyone says. That was the impression I got when he was on the show.

can we have a separate thread for BLM in regards to the voice contestants? this feels like an entirely different topic - albeit an important one.

I would say that at this point fiscally conservative (if paired with socially liberal) is it's own thing, as is to a somewhat different extent libertarian. Conservative colloquially is the more radical wing of the Republican party (like liberal is the more radical left wing of the Democratic party). And I think it's very hard to argue at this point that it is not implicitly racist/willing to be ignorant of systematic racism, dog-whistling etc, if not explicitly racist.

Anyways even Reba! got hate on her instagram post

There are conservative Democrats and liberal Republicans, and I’m sure there are plenty of racist liberals. Van Jones even said that the other day.

The posts with BLM highlighted the most (like Sawyer’s) are the ones getting the most hate. Those people most likely agree that George Floyd was unjustly killed by the cop, but view BLM as a political organization, affiliated with the Democrat party. They aren’t upset that he’s against police misconduct. They think he’s promoting a leftist group/agenda.

Nobody who follows Sawyer even slightly casually should be surprised by his political leanings. His upbringing was anti-establishment new age hippie!

Damn right there are. (Or at least self identified as. I don't know how you can both be progressive..ie..challenging the status quo of society and looking for improvements..and also racist..)See my feelings towards Sanders and the Brocialists.

Racism and white privilege isn't a Republican or Democrat thing - it's a white people thing. Something we have to face as a country. The reason Democrats get a break is because individual white Democrats have made some progress for communities of color (LBJ and the Clintons in particular). And the dog whistles Democrats/liberals use aren't as widely known as what Conservatives/Republicans use. But if you know what's there..

And also, just to be clear..BLM has protested and challenged Democrat candidates as well. It may be considered "left" but the orgranization doesn't view itself as part of the Democratic party. It's just that Democratic candidates have been willing to listen to them and discuss the issue with them. (I think Rubio did as well?)

His performance of "For What Its Worth" was an obvious nod from him and Pharrell towards the protests at that time..

Sawyer has a platform, and if he has intelligent things to say he should use it. I think fans should also recognize that he's a teenager - and the way he says things might not be as eloquent as his internal thoughts.
