KRICKETOT Classified as the Cricket Pokémon, Kricketot is a Bug type introduced in Generation IV. When it reaches level 10, it will evolve into Kricketune. Kricketot actually evolves at the lowest level of a two-stage evolutionary line Pokémon. Kricketot's design resembles a musician - maybe a conductor or an orchestra member. Female Kricetot have bigger collars than the males too. This musical theme is likely due to the fact that real life crickets will chirp songs to attract females. According to Kricketot's Pokédex entry, it sounds like the music of a xylophone when its antennae hit each other. Anyway, Kricketot is a Bug Pokémon that won't have longevity on any teams, especially due to how quickly it evolves. Therefore, I think it's fair to eliminate Kricketot this early in the rankdown too. Saving Druddigon.

BRUXISH Bruxish is a dual Water and Psychic type introduced in Generation VII. It is the only Psychic Pokémon with a piscine form too. Classified as the Gnash Teeth Pokémon, Bruxish will give off the sound of grinding teeth when the appendage on its head radiates psychic power. The sound causes nearby Pokémon to flee. As a result, lifeguards in the Alola region will use Bruxish to prevent more dangerous Pokémon gathering in the area. The design of Bruxish seems to be inspired by the Hawaiian reef triggerfish. Anyway, Bruxish has a high Attack stat and a good Speed stat too. This could be a decent Pokémon with the use of Swords Dance and Psychic Fangs, but I never used one in battle before. It's another one of those Pokémon I caught just for the Pokédex entry. So, out it goes from the rankdown. Saving Drampa.

I don’t know who that is, but which film is it? I’m nominating next.

THE WITCH Released in 2015, The VVitch is a supernatural horror film set in 1630s New England. It tells a story of a family being torn apart due to dark forces. It begins when their crops fail and their newborn baby boy mysteriously vanishes. The parents blame the daughter for the baby’s disappearance, but more occurrences befall the family of farmers. The film explores psychological conflict and doesn’t rely on traditional horror movie tropes. Instead, it creates its suspense with ambience and scenography. It’s not a movie that uses jump scares, but it is still effective in creating an unsettling experience for the viewer. The film has a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and the site says “As thought-provoking as it is visually compelling, The Witch delivers a deeply unsettling exercise in slow-building horror that suggests great things for debuting writer-director Robert Eggers.” I tend to avoid horror movies, so I doubt I’ll ever watch this film. However, this does seem like a well-made film. Sorry to any fans. And I’m saving Thor: Ragnarok.

EIGHTH GRADE I do like Bo Burnham and have seen some of his stand up specials, but I haven’t gotten around to seeing Eighth Grade yet. I’ve heard good things about it though. The movie stars Elsie Fisher as Kayla, a young girl going through the stress of fitting in at school while dealing with anxiety. She’s also obsessed with social media and posts motivational vlogs. In addition, her father yearns to bond with her, but she keeps alienating him and keeping to herself like most kids do around that age. The film was critically praised, noted for having an accurate portrayal of teenagers who never lived in a world without the Internet. According to Rotten Tomatoes (which gives the film a 99% approval rating), “Eighth Grade takes a look at its titular time period that offers a rare and resounding ring of truth while heralding breakthroughs for writer-director Bo Burnham and captivating star Elsie Fisher.“ Burnham won Writers Guild and Directors Guild of America Awards for his directorial debut, and Fisher was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress. She ended up winning the Gotham Award for Breakthrough Actor for this film. This is a film I would be interested in seeing someday. Sorry to any fans for this cut. Saving Your Name.

BPM I was going to do a write-up later, but I might as well get it out of the way now. BPM (Beats per Minute), also known as 120 BPM (Beats per Minute) is a French drama released in 2017. The story centers around AIDS activism in France during the 90s. The screenwriters wrote from their own personal experiences while developing the story. Although the government claims to support those suffering from the virus, there are protests due to the government not taking it seriously enough. There is also a love story between an HIV negative man named Nathan and an HIV positive man named Sean. The film ends with Nathan euthanizing Sean. As for reviews of the film, critics liked it. It had an approval rating of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. The site also says, “Moving without resorting to melodrama, BPM offers an engrossing look at a pivotal period in history that lingers long after the closing credits roll.” I haven’t heard of this film before, which is why I chose to cut it from the remaining nominees.
