"BREAKING FREE" (HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL) Let it be known that on April 2nd, 2024, we said goodbye to all the DCOM original songs in the Disney Songs rankdown, as they had all overstayed their welcome to a certain degree. While I appreciate High School Musical and its songs, including this one, I cannot justify keeping any of them in the rankdown any longer when superior Disney songs are being cut. "Breaking Free" is, without a doubt, one of the hit songs from High School Musical. It is performed by Vanessa Hudgens and Drew Seeley, who is not Zac Efron who portrayed Troy. The song is sung by Gabriella and Troy during their final callback to secure the lead roles in the school musical, much to Sharpay's pleasure. Personally speaking, this song ranks among my favorites from the series, alongside "We're All in This Together", "Bop to the Top", and "Fabulous". As mentioned earlier, it's a standout song from the series and has been performed in the television series as well. "STICK TO THE STATUS QUO" (HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL) At this stage of the rankdown, as previously mentioned, High School Musical songs are quite expendable. You cannot convince me that their songs are better than any of the songs that were cut in the previous round, especially when it comes to a classic like "A Spoonful Of Sugar". So, on my watch, no DCOM songs shall make the Top 50. "Stick to The Status Quo" is featured in the first High School Musical as an ensemble number showcasing supporting characters not named Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad, or Taylor. True to High School Musical's style, the song is catchy with its melody and lyrics. Its purpose is to let other characters shine by revealing their secrets while in the cafeteria, such as Zeke's love for baking and Martha's passion for hip-hop dancing. The song ends in chaos with Gabriella running into Sharpay with her tray. One memorable aspect of the number is the presence the queen that is Britt Stewart. Overall, while the song is decent, it's not worthy of a Top 50 ranking. By submitting this write-up, I ensure that "We're All In This Together" ranks slightly higher, as it's my preferred group number from the first movie and I'd consider it to be the penultimate ensemble song from a DCOM. "PROUD CORAZON" (COCO) I was truly limited with the songs nominated as I like or love all the songs nominated to a certain degree, and then there's "Proud Corazón", which is easily the song that I am the least attached to. This may be a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I can't say that I truly like the songs from Coco except for "Remember Me"; It's just not a Disney soundtrack that I seek out. This song is written by Adrian Molina and performed by Miguel. In the context of the film, this is the only song that is about Miguel's life and he wrote himself rather than singing songs that were written by his great-great-grandfather, Héctor, or traditional Mexican songs. Miguel performs it at the end of the film during the celebration of Dia de Los Muertos while dressed up as a mariachi player and playing the guitar that once belonged to his Héctor, with his other family members joining him. As a whole, the song truly does a great job of encompassing the overall feeling of the film and its storyline. Overall, I don't dislike the song, but it's not one I particularly like either, so cutting it out of the nominated songs felt like the only option I had. SAVING: SHOW YOURSELF
