  5. Scotty McCreery returns to casino stage April 13 By DEB EVERTS Press Reporter SALAMANCA — Country music star Scotty McCreery is returning to the Seneca Allegany Event Center at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 13 when he will take the stage to perform his hits. Known for his signature baritone voice, McCreery has earned five consecutive No. 1 hits in the last few years including “Damn Strait,” “You Time,” “Five More Minutes,” “This Is It” and “In Between.” In addition to his first hit single, “I Love You This Big,” his other big hits include “See You Tonight,” “Water Tower Town,” “The Trouble With Girls,” “Feelin’ It,” “It Matters to Her” and his latest single, “Cab in a Solo.” Released last August, “Cab in a Solo” is the fastest-moving single of McCreery’s career and offers his first new music since the release of his 2021 album, “Same Truck.” He said “Cab in a Solo” is in the Top 15 and rising on the country music singles charts. The music video for it was released in January. “We’ve put a few additional songs out on streaming including ‘Can’t Pass the Bar’ and ‘Love Like This,’ which the fans are enjoying when we play them in concert,” he told the Press in a recent interview. McCreery recently came off his two-month “Cab in a Solo” tour. Accompanied by artists Anne Wilson, Greylan James and Noah Hicks, he said they played a lot of new music, in addition to the hits, and the audiences seemed to enjoy it. AT AGE 17, McCreery became a household name after his big win on “American Idol” in May 2011. He sang his first single, “I Love You This Big,” in the competition and it was released on his debut album, “Clear As Day.” That same year, he made history as the first country artist and youngest male artist of any genre to debut a first solo album on the Billboard Top 200 chart. “I was very fortunate to be able to be on and ultimately win ‘Idol,’ but I never set out to be the ‘TV guy.’ I set out to be a country music performer,” he said. “These past 13 years have been full of ups, downs and a lot of fun. Writing songs is one of my favorite things to do. I’m always thinking, always listening and always working on songs in my head. I hope to do this all my life.” Last October, McCreery was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. In December, Garth Brooks invited him to join the Grand Ole Opry, and he’ll be officially inducted later this year. TICKETS ..VERY LOW TICKET AVAILABILITY (25) “I’ve wanted to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry since I first thought about being a performer for a living. Think about all the amazing, talented people who have been members including Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Randy Travis, Charlie Daniels, Garth Brooks, Josh Turner, Darius Rucker — I could go on and on,” he said. “I am so honored that the Opry wanted me to join and that they had one of my biggest musical heroes, Garth Brooks, ask me.” McCreery said he is very proud of his home state of North Carolina where he has lived his entire life and now resides with his wife, Gabrielle (Gabi), and their toddler son, Merrick Avery. He doubts they will ever move because their location is ideal — about two hours from both the mountains and the beach. “Gabi and I met on the first day of kindergarten when we were 5 years old. We had our eyes on each other ever since, but didn’t really date until our senior year of high school,” he said. “Our son, whom we call Avery, is now 17 months old and the best thing that ever happened to us.” HIS NEW song, “Love Like This,” gives fans a look into his life as a first-time parent. With raw emotion, he takes the listener on a journey of tender memories about when he became Avery’s dad. “Being a father to Avery is the coolest thing I’ve ever done. I just want to be a good father and raise him to be the man I know he can be,” he said. “A lot of my music is very personal, so I knew there would be songs about Avery.” Growing up, McCreery sang with his family in the church choir and the school chorus. Eventually, he started singing around town at friends’ parties and coffeehouses. He said it was life-changing when his grandmother introduced him to Elvis Presley at a very young age, and Elvis is still his favorite singer of all time. “My parents took me to see George Strait, Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack in concert when I was young. What a lineup for my very first concert,” he said. “It really influenced me to want to be an entertainer.” McCreery hopes the Salamanca audience will have a great time and enjoy the music. “If I can put a smile on their face and give them a song to sing along with, then I’ll be happy,” he said.
