American Idol 3 is fast approaching. In preparation of this, we have many new and exciting changes in the works. First off, I would like to thank you all for your continued support through our run so far. We appreciate all of your loyalty to us. recently hit 1 million posts and 10,000 members. These were both huge milestones for us. When we opened the forums to the public back in March, we never expected to reach anywhere near these numbers. It was quite a pleasant surprise when we did. Now we are well on our way towards 2 million posts and our member count continues to grow each and every day. By recent statistics, we are in the top 200 for all message boards worldwide ranked by post count. We consistently rank in the top 10 for daily posts as well. To make things short, is moving up the ranks fast! A poll of our database also revealed that ~4300 of our users are currently active. We didn't expect these numbers to be anywhere near that high.

The first of the changes to Neurox/Idolforums was an upgrade to the forum server. As you may have noticed, over the past few months the server has been under an especially high load. During peak periods of time, the forums would give out a "server is busy" message. The downtime you just experienced was us upgrading the server. We hope that the upgrade will alleviate all the problems we've been having. If you notice anything weird or out of place, please contact one of the forum administrators via PM.

One big new addition to the forums will be the subscription service. I know many of you may hear "subscription" and think you'll have to pay to access the forums. Let me start off by saying that this is not the case. Virtually everything available to you now will still be available to you for free (downloads included). The subscription service is basically a way for us to try to make back some of the costs related to the new server upgrades that we've implemented for AI3. The cost of the new servers will almost double our current costs and we simply cannot afford that without some help from our users. Here is a brief teaser of what we might have to offer subscribers:
  • Access to our high-speed media servers
  • Access to our premium support forums
  • A [email protected] e-mail address
  • Increased PM storage capacity
  • Your name will appear differently in the online users list
  • Plus so much more...
We have not worked out the costs or 100% of the details yet. We'll make another announcement prior to the activation of the service.

The last item will be the change to our private message and forum image upload feature. Right now users are entitled to 500 total messages in all your folders. That will change to 200 on February 4th. If you have more than that amount saved, we recommend you use the Archive Messages feature to save your PM's to your home computer. We will also be wiping the forum server of all user uploaded images. If you have any images uploaded to the forum right now and wish to keep them, please save them to your computer! This wipe will take place on Monday January 19th.

Both the above changes are to increase the speed and stability of the forum server. Hosting a large amount of images on the server leads to slower load times. We recommend that you only host signature and avatar items on the server post-wipe. There are many free upload hosts out there for your personal pictures.

A new version of Invision board (2.0) is also in the works as well. There is no set date for its release but we will be upgrading to it. One of the major features that you will notice is your own personal storage space for graphics. We will give normal users ~150KB since that is more than adequate for signatures and avatars according to our set of rules. Subscribers will more than likely get an increased amount of storage space for personal pictures. We'll further discuss that when the time comes.

This brings an end to yet another quarterly report by yours truly! We hope you are all getting as excited about American Idol 3 as we are and we look forward to seeing you around. As usual, if you have any questions, please e-mail [email protected]. Thank you for your time.

If you have any comments, please discuss them in this open discussion thread.
