Following a gig in late 2007, when Guy was spotted by a US Sony executive, and who arranged a showcase for him in New York last year, where legendary (Blues Bros and Booker T & the MGs) Steve Cropper joined him, its now been announced that Guy and his wife Jules will be moving to New York.

The last of his Australian shows will be on April 4, at Twin Towns, Tweed Heads (border of Qld / NSW).

The gist of the announcement was (thanks Shadow)

talks about the massive ups and downs of last year
but this year is ready to go to the US
has signed a deal with (US) SONY BMG
Global release of the NEW Memphis Album, with four originals added

tongue.gif

These new tracks were recorded with John Mayer on board, after Guy flew over to the US in 2008 and John was interested enough in the idea to sit in on one track. John and Guy have been friends for a couple of years, and have a mutual musician / friend in David Ryan Harris. John was really enthused however, and 'encouraging' as Guy puts it, (which we've found over the years to mean "very enthusiastic"!) and ended up not only playing guitar but singing BVs on all four tracks.

According to the articles in both New Zealand and Australian "New Idea" John Mayer thinks hes an extraordinary talent, and Jennifer Aniston is a fan too.

(Other famous fans are Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban who have also confessed to being big fans, who attended his 2007 Opera House show). The stylist Phillip Bloch is another.

--------------------------

Guy has four 'official' Australian Sony albums. 'Just as I Am', "Beautiful Life", "Closer to the Sun" and "The Memphis Album" ( Aust. 2007) He also brought out a DVD / CD pack last year, following the mega successful The Memphis Tour. The CD with that pack included new tracks, and a new Guy-written song, "I Feel A Fire".

There is also to be a release of an Australian album of Guy's tracks (official Australian no. 5) for 2009

Guy first recorded in 1998, with a gospel song on the SA Youth Alive album, and has since written over 30+ songs which have been included on over 10 albums (not all his own albums). He let slip at one interview that he had been offered a US contract before, but this was from Nashville and wasn't quite what he was after. He won a song competition late 2002 with "No More", where he wrote, sang, played and produced the song which won him a reasonable sum of money to help set up his own recording studio. Still into the engineering and recording side, Guy has recently finished refurbishing and setting up a recording studio in Sydney.

He co-wrote the World Youth Day 2008 theme song, "Receive the Power": with his friend Gary Pinto, who often joins him on stage, who is also a BV for Australian Idol shows, and who is also an amazing vocalist in his newly re-formed band CDB.

-----------

Guy himself received "astonishing", "genuine rare talent", "stage presence of more than twice his age", "charismatic", "knows his place in a song", etc for the tours last year, while the band he toured with, comprising Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn, Lester Snell and Steve Potts, with the Australian horns, brought "soul" joy to new and old fans. In fact one critic went so far as to announce it was "the perfect concert" - and he was a metal fan! haha.gif grin.gif giving both Guy and the band 10/10. The same critic enjoyed Guy's 'self-deprecating sense of humour' too haha.gif There is a clickable link in my signature to an interview with Steve Cropper.

In 2007 Guy also appeared in his own shows at the Sydney Opera House (with the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra), and also toured last year with the Army bands, raising money for charity. and has performed at a massive number of corporate events over the years, even on occasion acting as artist / MC.

Located in the East Village area of Manhattan, DROM is a multi-event venue with a restaurant and lounge. With high ceilings, earthy colors and comfortable seating, we aim to provide a warm, inviting, sophisticated and informal atmosphere to relax and enjoy our multi-cultural and varied programming.

Drom is a voyage - a fascinating journey on the road across cultures and countries, across many varieties of music, cuisine, liquors and other forms of fine art. In fact, it is a voyage of discovery across international cultures and their artistic expression. Each unique in their creativity and yet universal in their themes.

Drom, literally a road from the Greek Dromos, signifies a journey in the universal Romani or gypsy culture. The ancient gypsies were fearless explorers, true to their romantic spirit, people of the earth and very creative. From their origins in India, they spread through the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. As they have touched different cultures in their journeys, they have created different versions of their music, food and art. In that sense, they are the forbearers of modern human beings. Rootless and yet citizens of the world.

Many of you are undoubtedly familiar with your own journeys on this road with wonderful stops - in fact serai - on the way such as St. Marx Café, Maia Meyhane, New York Gypsy Festival, Jazz Made In Turkey and many other events.

Drom is a tribute to the Romani fearless creative spirit. It is a venue that aims to showcase the best of the authentic musical and creative traditions of various cultures of the world today. It is a venue where you can experience the diverse cultures and their music from Romani to Latin to Bossa Nova, their mezze and tapas, wines, raki, sake and their art. All with a common theme of timeless beauty, variety and poetry which is somehow unique and yet universal, ancient yet contemporary, every day and uncommon and which touches us all as great art always seems to do. It is a venue where music comes alive in its context of cultural expression and is a tribute to the great cultural mix of New York.
