Hi! It's that time of year again! I have been doing these year-end song lists since I was in the womb 2004, even though IDF now wants to pretend none of them exist. :bye2: I have witnesses. But it wouldn't be the end of the year if I didn't want to reflect on all my favorite music and share that here!

 

 

I will be ranking a variety of music on this list from different genres, so hopefully there's something for everyone. I look forward to hearing all your comments, whether you've been following my lists for years, or this is your first time here. Just please be nice and respectful of everything.

 

Last year I ranked a whopping... what was it? 190 songs? Not even counting all my intermissions. The list *is* shorter this year, but by how much? You'll find out later.

I am still on a high from my David Christmas concert the other night, so I have to kick off these sets of Christmas music with his latest Christmas song!! :santa: AND YES it is a cover of the NSYNC song. What more could I ask for in life right now? I already loved this song and I love it even more now. Plus, David has so much fun in this video and it makes me have fun watching it. Ugh, I just love these good vibes. He's dancing and having a party. The song keeps getting happier and happier to me as it goes on. "All the kids will see the gifts under the tree, it's the best time of year for the family" But then I have to jam even more in the chorus!? IT'S A WONDERFUL FEELING FEEL THE LOVE IN THE ROOM FROM THE FLOOR TO THE CEILING. IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR. CHRISTMAS TIME IS HERE. WITH THE BLESSINGS FROM ABOVE. GOD SENDS YOU HIS LOVE. AND EVERYTHING'S OKAY. MERRY CHRISTMAS. HAPPY HOLIDAYS. And what's this in the middle of the video? YOU SAW RIGHT. Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick have arrived. (!) David getting a cameo from 2/5 of NSYNC? Legendary. Everyone can bow down. I love when they are playing with those signs in the photo booth. So fun. Oh and lol in the behind the scenes of this video, Lance tells David "Thanks for making our song sound good" Obviously it was great before, but yes, praise the amazing David voice. "No matter what your holiday, it's a time to celebrate, and put your worries aside, and open up your mind. See the world right by your side, it's Christmastime" This part was epic live. But the cheery feel of this song, the lyrics, David's vocals, and everything make my heart so happy. I am smiling from ear to ear and you should be too. OMG it's coming up as one of the top searches for this song on YouTube. To quote Wally - sorry, but I am iconic! I have better quality ones of other songs, but still think this is pretty good. The place was jamming!

JoJo - The Christmas Song

A classic Christmas song that we all know from JoJo. I love her pure, beautiful vocals on this song, not to mention the super festive setting from the video as she sings this. It all feels so warm and cozy, which is how it should be. I love her runs and high notes in this, as well as just her general singing. She could sing the phone book. And there's a puppy in the video! I love it all.

 

 

Mariah Carey - Oh Santa!

Well, this song is not technically new.... at all lol, but it was included as a track on the deluxe anniversary edition of Mariah's Merry Christmas album, so in a way it's new. It's new to that album in 2019, so I want to include it here, and I don't think anyone will complain anyway. Mariah has some great Christmas songs. This is a fun, groovy song and Mariah is counting on Santa to bring her baby back. I have to giggle "And I don't know how you do the things you do while I sleep on Christmas Eve" Same. I'd love to sleep all night and day while others get work done. Even if that guy has a new girl, that won't stop Mariah from asking Santa to make him hers this Christmas. "you can scoop him up and scoop him right down my chimney" Wow.

 

 

Idina Menzel - At This Table

I believe I heard this song when Idina performed it on the Christmas in Rockefeller Center special and really liked it. I then went to listen to her new Christmas album, and this remained one of my favorites, if not my very favorite. It's a really beautiful and meaningful song about inclusion.

 

 

Julianne Hough & Jordan Fisher - All I Want For Christmas Is Love

Wow, what a Merry Christmas it was to me to find out Julianne and Jordan collaborated on a song together! An original Christmas song AND accompanied by a video of them dancing together? Yes please. I'll take it. I adore both of them. And I've met both of them. Anyway, the title of the song says it all, that all they want for Christmas is love. The feel of this really reminds me of "Santa Baby." But it's better because it's got J-squared and I said so. I love how they each sing on their own verse and then "Ooh-ooh, just because the weather's acting blue" It makes you want to sway. I also love this part of the lyrics "It doesn't mean that we should feel it, two people fall in love" but you could also hear that "two" as "too" to end the first line. I don't know how to describe it, but I always love when lyrics do that to connect two lines together. "'Cause Santa's making wishes come true" They are so cute in the video, although so close on that couch. But I just love everything about this song. They also performed this on the Christmas in Rockefellar Center special, as well on the amazing Holidays with the Houghs... but I can't find video of that one, ughh. I'll link the Rockefeller performance:

YAY. Jules is gorgeous as always and Jordan is too cute for his own good. I'm sure Wally will have a comment on that.

 

 

Keith Urban - I'll Be Your Santa Tonight

This is a sweet song from Keith. It seems like a lot of things are going wrong at Christmas time in the story of the song, but Keith says he'll be her Santa. I love how he name drops Charlie Brown in the first verse. But yeah, seems like they'll be no snow, yet family still isn't there... so Keith is going to do all he can to make the season special. "I'll bring the magic, I'll bring the lights, I'll make you a star at the top of the tree, shinin' so bright" I really like the feel of it that I can't explain. I also love all those trees and the snow in the video. It's a winter wonderland! And lol this line in the bridge "When I hold you in my arms, you'll be the one getting caught kissin' Santa Claus" :santa:

 

 

 

Taylor Swift - Christmas Tree Farm

Obviously I'm not going to talk about Christmas songs without featuring this one on here. I love listening to Taylor's old school Christmas EP, The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection, from 2007 every single year and always will, but it's so nice to finally have a new Christmas song from her too! She wrote, recorded, and released this song all within less than a week, so praise for that. I love how it pays tribute to her childhood of living on the Christmas tree farm. Some of my favorite parts are: "And I just wanna be there tonight" and "And everything is icy and blueeee and you would be there too" But my very favorites of the chorus are when she goes... AND TELLING ME. I. LOVE. YOUUUUUUU. and WHERE EVERY WISH COMES TRUEEEE. YES. AND oh snap, check it out. She combines my two favorite parts together starting at 2:49. Love that high note and the jamminess that follows. This song makes me happy. And the music video featuring her home videos is so sweet and cute.

David Archuleta - Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays: Oops forgot to guess this one for some reason but I did know about David covering the *NSYNC song recently. And awww yess I can imagine you had a blast at his concert. So interesting he covered this song but this is a very good cover and suits him well. Aww yayy for loving the fun he has in the video and ooo lol he’s dancing a lot in this. It’s a fun happy song and I always liked it from *NSYNC and as I said David does well with his version. Omgg lmaoo loving your shouting of the lyrics. And ahh es that’s really cool how Lance and Chris are in the video too. I love that part of the bride you mentioned. OMGGG NOOOO LOL you bringing up my quote. You are gonna embarrass me all the time with this huh? But amazing how your video of this is shown as one of the top searches. :D Ahh yayy the video from your concert. This looks really fun to watch and he does a great job with it live. lol Yess this was a long commentary for your first song but it was so fun to read.

 

JoJo - The Christmas Song: Haven’t heard this from JoJo, I think. But she has a gorgeous and strong voice and really showcases that well here. Really nice cover and like the soulful approach she has here. Aww nice at the puppy.

 

Mariah Carey - Oh Santa!: Oooh the Queen of Christmas, Mariah of course! Mariah knows how to deliver great Christmas songs and this is no different. She sounds great and this is a really fun and funky song. Not too familiar with this song but would love to hear it more. Love the parts you listed and lmaooo that last part is funny. Omgg lmaoo you with the Wow gifs, hahaha.

 

Idina Menzel - At This Table: I was gonna say NHT but I guess I did since I watched that special. Again not too familiar with this but Idina has a beautiful gorgeous voice and it’s no different here on this song. I didn’t know se had a Christmas album out but ahhh that’s great this is possibly your favorite on there. Nice beautiful song and nice to listen to.

INTERESTINGGG at the “two” and “too” comments here, which I wouldn’t have thought of or caught on my own. But they both sound really good here and I really like the song, and they have really nice chemistry in this song. And sometimes that chemistry is a bit something else from what i see from them. LOL “ Jordan is too cute for his own good. I’m sure Wally will have a comment on that.” DANG RIGHT. You know got some crush like feelings about Jordan that you don’t want to admit to. :*

But can be a third time now. Oooh whoa I totally forgot/didn’t know tat she had a Christmas EP from back in the day. Whoa I tought this was her first Christmas song but nope, oops. Ooh whoa she only worked on this within a week? This is a cute song and she sounds good on this. Oooh that beginning part kinda surprised me and….. I thought it was something completely different? I was so confused. But the rest of the song is cute and enjoyable and yeah a nice song from Taylor. The video is really cute and adorable too.

John Legend & Kelly Clarkson - Baby, It's Cold Outside

I love that John decided to include Kelly on this version of the song, which is part of the deluxe edition of his A Legendary Christmas album. Good choice. :santa: Their voices both sound so timeless and classic on this tune... it's such an easy listening song. There are also quite a few lyrical changes on John's side of things, as they updated the song for the guy to be less controlling over pressuring her to stay and allowing her to make her own decisions. I really like the changes they made, with some of my favorites being parts like "but, I can call you a ride" and all the references he makes to the driver he called for her. No pressure for her to stay there at all. One line that really stands out though is "It's your body and your choice." I also love this part: "I ought to say, "No, no, no, sir" (then you really ought to go, go, go)" He's encouraging her to go, instead of stay! Plot twist. Love it. Kelly's vocals are my favorite, but I really love when John powers it a bit more towards the end and how they sing together.

Yay for Thomas releasing an original Christmas song! The title of this is so perfect because this really does feel like a country Christmas song, which it is. "We got snowflakes falling on an old two lane, red-bow wreaths on a window pane, just sitting 'round the fire with the ones who love me" It just has a happy feeling about it that I love. I also love this lyric from the bridge: "You could be 10 miles away and see my house from the road" That's what I like to see. A house all decked out! :santa: The imagery of the video is adorable too.

We have another not so new Mariah song here that was included on the release of her Merry Christmas album this year. This is just a fun festive song... that sounds a lot like "Run Run Rudolph." I read this is actually a cover of that song... with all different lyrics. Well okay. "Oh, my little snowman, he's the coolest guy in town, he's jolly and he's happy, nothing's gonna bring him down" So cute! omg I love it. This lyric too! "He's got his hat to the back 'cause he's cool like that" Adorable. My mom LOVES snowmen, so I want to dedicate this song to her. Also, those "ooh ooh ooh" parts are so catchy. This is all so fun and jammy! And lol Santa dancing in the video.

This is one of my favorite songs from Lea's new Christmas album, Christmas in the City, and I'm also so glad she did a Christmas album, because I just feel her voice suits it so well somehow. :santa: It's a really beautiful take on the song from Frozen and is so emotional. :bye2: She really sounds so lovely and heavenly on this song. "Do you want to build a snowman? Come on, let's go and play"

I heard this song when I was watching the Christmas movie Noelle on Disney+ and had to Shazam it right away. I mean I knew the SONG, but not the artist. I never heard of Lawrence before, but I guess they are a band and I really like the lead singer's voice. But also, I just love this song in general. This is just super fun and I love the clapping beat throughout too. The belting near the end is great too. I definitely want to add this to my annual Christmas playlist.

It just wouldn't be Christmas without some festive Pentatonix music to sooth my soul and here is the first song I want to feature of theirs. They released a compilation album this year of their previous three Christmas albums, and added some new songs. Pentatonix IS Christmas music, honestly. Jazmine Sullivan lends her vocals to this song as well and sounds really great. And that ~rap section is fun too. "You down with G-O-D? (Yeah, you know me)" omg but the layers keep going because I also love this part: "Right away, what have you done for Him lately?" The little scatting parts and the full on vocals with them all singing together are fantastic. I feel so festive now.

 

 

Pentatonix - You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch

I have more Pentatonix already because I can and I had to fit two of their songs in one of the last sets, since I failed to put one in the first. But anyway, I kind of love this song and obviously love Pentatonix's version of it. I actually remember singing this back when I was in choir in school and trying to learn all the lyrics. So that's a fun memory. The bad banana line always stood out to me. This song is also a bit different from others from Pentatonix, since they have their bass singer, Matt, on lead and that was a great choice. He sells this really well. His vocal nuances and facial expressions are spot on. Wow, slay. (!) I love it and love all the background vocals from the rest of the group as well. Ugh, this is so good.

I think I was too spazzy on my last David write-up, that I failed to mention "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays" was one of the songs included on the re-release, deluxe edition of his Winter in the Air album. But it was, so now you know... and this is one of the other new ones! The third one is "The Christmas Song", which I wanted to post from JoJo in the previous set. I do want to kind of tag his version onto this write-up though, since he actually sang that one live at my concert, so I'll include the video of that here:

It's like a poem about that special night when baby Jesus was born. "Sleep, sleep, sleep,'tis the eve of our Saviour's birth." Yep. I love how he lets his voice and the lyrics shine through with no background music needed. It's gorgeous.
