*Wallace
I met Marissa when I auditioned for Season 12. #derekisanamedropper I later tried to take a class at her studio in Nashville but the timing didn't work out. I think it was Ricky Palomino who was going to be teaching maybe? Anyway, Marissa is awesome. Aww that's a bummer you couldn't take Marissa's dance class. But yay Marissa love. *Amanda
Yeah, I do feel bad for Marissa. She had so much potential but then got stuck with that Club Cha-Cha with Asaf and there was nothing she could do to save that routine from being a trainwreck. At least she had a fantastic Hip-Hop with Yorelis before she was eliminated. <

Deeee
Marissa and Yorelis HH is one of my fave routines. It does not forgive her for the other three really bad dances she performed. She was also up against much stronger dancers in this group of nominations.

I remember watching it being like "wow!" and then the judges read her and I thought I was taking crazy pills. Ugh yeah. I didn't get that. Marissa and Yorelis HH is one of my fave routines. It does not forgive her for the other three really bad dances she performed. She was also up against much stronger dancers in this group of nominations. Hmm I thought her only bad dance was the Cha-Cha. And I don't think her part in it was *terrible* and she did a respectable job on her end but she wasn't strong enough to cover up/mask how terrible Asaf was in. I thought her Jazz routines were fairly good.

Deeee
Lex Ishimoto (Season 14) o5NGPr4SI3U SKxO5UPIJBo USnnP_FI2WI Meh. Lex is an interesting contestant to discuss. Most importantly, I would like to point out that Lex is very clearly an insanely talented dancer/artist. Lex is very unique in his movement style and clearly is very dedicated to dance as an art form. Having said that, Lex is not the best SYTYCD contestant nor is he a worthy winner when compared to the other finalists, Koine and Kiki, from the same season. At the beginning of Season 14, I really thought I would enjoy Lex in the competition. Do not get me wrong, I think there were some moments where I really did appreciate Lex. However, there were also moments where he was so incredibly bad, and was of course, not held to the flames for his shortcomings. As the producer pet that season, Lex winning was a foregone conclusion and that made his eventual victory not only lackluster, but really disappointing after the best season in some years. Between the romance shenanigans with his girlfriend and fellow finalist, Taylor, and all of the overdone praise heaped onto him, I really grew to dislike Lex by the time the season ended. LOL. Which sucks because his fusion of Contemporary/Ballet/Hip-Hop in his personal style really is so cool. Lex was chosen by All-Star Gaby Diaz for the duration of the competition. Lex is very well-known within the competition and convention dance world and is really well-versed in many styles, one of them being Tap. Gaby Diaz was also the SYTYCD Star Child at the time, so the writing really was on the wall from the very moment the Live Shows began. Lex did have an incredible audition, but that alone would not sell me on all the pre-arranged pimping and rigging that was already going on for Lex before the actual competition had even started. During the first week of the competition, Lex danced a Tap routine with Gaby choreographed by Anthony Morigerato. I hated the routine honestly. I really enjoy Tap, but this routine was extremely boring and not well-suited for the first week of the competition. But of course, the judges acted as if this routine was world-changing and thus began a cycle of overpimping that we are all too familiar with on this show by now. Lex danced an Argentine Tango with Gaby the following week, which was choreographed by Miriam Larici and Leonardo Barrionuevo. The routine was absolutely horrendous. A trainwreck to watch. This routine highlighted exactly why Lex was not yet ready for this show. Lex is a very cold performer. Lex is so introverted, which really works against him in any routine where he is supposed to actually feel and portray human emotions. Lex was the opposite of sexy and smoldering, lacked the technique for this routine, and really sucked as a partner for Gaby. But yet again, Lex escaped critique. LOL. Which I never understood because Gaby was always dancing at such an obviously higher level than him and is always delivering performance. This would occur again the following week, when Lex danced a Warren Carlyle Broadway routine with Gaby. The routine sucked, and only because Lex simply could not bring any life or character to the routine. Gaby single-handedly is what makes that routine watchable. Three weeks, three misses in my opinion. Lex could have been eliminated first or second, and I honestly would say that we would be better off for it. My annoyance with Lex reached new heights during Top 8 Week. Lex danced the pretty good "Work Song" with Gaby, but it felt a little too late. The routine was also overshadowed by far more iconic routines that night. But the worst crime would be committed after his Spencer Liff Broadway-Jazz routine set to "An American in Paris." The routine is quite frankly devoid of emotion and is so painfully boring, yet was hailed as the greatest routine in the history of the show. LOLOLOLOL. At that point, the agenda to push Lex and Taylor as a couple into the Top 2 positions of the season was not even being concealed anymore. That statement for that routine is pure bullshit and hyperbole. Lex's journey continued to be good the following week, after he danced the Luther Brown Hip-Hop routine, "Humble." I know he danced really well in the routine, but all I remember is Gaby's wig. Sorry. Lex then danced in the Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson Contemporary group routine, "Strange." Pretty good routine. But not on the level of "Still I Rise." So Lex continued to be outdone but hoisted up as the best of the season. This streak of good routines would end the following week though. During Top 6 Week, Lex danced a Sasha Farber Samba routine with Gaby set to "Chillando Goma." This routine is legitimately awful. Lex failed in every single way imaginable. The less said the better honestly. Lex then continued to fail during his Disco routine with Koine. I understand he was injured at this point, but he almost killed Koine in this routine. I just do not think Lex is meant for partner work. At all. Luckily for Lex, his place in the finale was long-solidified by this point. Now, I will say that Lex had a really good finale night. That Al Blackstone Broadway with Koine is one of my favorite routines ever. And Lex actually delivered a memorable performance for once, so kudos to him. Lex continued to shine in the Luther Brown Hip-Hop with Kiki, which is very underrated. Finally, Lex danced the routine where he was like permanently attached to Taylor's lips for the entirety of the time. LOL. Of course, Lex just so happened to be gifted the first Mia Michaels Contemporary duet piece in like five years. LOL. And of course it was with his girlfriend. And of course the routine is about a couple in love and kissing for the first time or something. The whole thing just felt like...#RIGGAMORRIS. And Lex did nothing to deserve all this favor. As we all know, Lex went on to win Season 14. Good for him. He seems like a nice guy, but he did not really deserve that win. After all, it was handed to him at the beginning of the season. Since Season 14 has ended, Lex has been working like crazy. Lex is touring all over the world to teach and choreograph, particularly with JUMPDance. Lex has danced and toured for big name artists such as Muse. Lex toured as a principal dancer with Shaping Sound. He has made a few pretty good appearances on the show as an All-Star. He is still producing some sick work fusing together all of the styles he knows. Lex is very talented. Just a bad winner and not very versatile as a contestant on the show. He was so introverted to the point of hurting his performances. And of course he is stained with the shenanigans of production and the judges. Sorry Derek, I know you're a fan, but I'm always going to kick out the overhyped winners. Lex is no exception.SAVING: Mark Villaver (Season 14)

FrogLenzen
BRANDON MITCHELL Brandon Website Brandon Mitchell was a stepper who made the show on Season 9. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the judges admitted that they picked a Top 20 this season despite the fact that there would be multiple double eliminations due to the olympics (which are happening again this year... thoughts and prayers for SYTYCD) and when they did they chose some dancers of different styles, AKA Brandon and Janelle. But Brandon actually had a pretty decent run on the show. During the showcase week, he had the final piece of the night with Cole and Glitch by Chris Scott. In hindsight it seems like such a nothing piece, but for some reason it consistently gives me chills when I watch it. Brandon danced a mediocre hip hop with Janaya week 1, and they basically screamed fodder after that. But his week 2 dance with Janaya by Sean Cheesman is one of my all time favorite duets. Janaya couldn’t pull any votes from the previous week and was eliminated, but Brandon survived to be paired with Amber (whom I am saving this round). They danced a jazz to Aretha Franklin, which again is one of the better duets to have been on the show imo. I will say though that Janaya and Amber did more in those routines than Brandon, but he was still a solid partner for them. Unfortunately they were both in the bottom that week and went home. I thought Brandon’s DFYL was good, but he was up against Dareian tricks and the judges couldn’t help themselves. Granted, it would have been also questionable if they saved Brandon and cut Amber. As Adam Shankman constantly reminded us, Brandon was in Step Up #whatever before he was on the show. Since the show he still dances, choreographs, is apparently a hip hop artist, and got married and had a kid. FrogLenzen
Hahaha Elliott removed Lex and Marissa from the list Re: Lex, I definitely agree that he was the chosen one and his run is definitely tainted by that. The plotline with Taylor was super cringy and the mia michaels piece made me roll my eyes out of my head. I mean, even though Evan had an amazing audition there was no question whether Gaby would pick Lex. Weren’t they in Shaping Sound together and even had a duet on that tour or something? But personally I think he is supernaturally talented and I look past all that. I was hooked since he did that developpe out of the pirouettes in his audition. Elliott
LILY FRIAS Lily Frias was part of the fantastic* Team Street from season twelve of the show. *Asaf Goren? I don't know him. Her first routine was with eventual runner-up/rightful champion Jaja Vaňková, hottie Burim Jusufi and future gay porn star Asaf Goren. This routine, a hip-hop routine choregrpahed by Christoper Scott, sent her into the bottom three even though she was fantastic in it. Then again, that week could've just been a bottom six of all Team Stage and I would've been 100% fine with it. :* The next routine saw her and Burim partnered alongside eventual winner/rightful runner-up Gaby Diaz and Edson Juarez for a Bollywood routine. Since Twitter didn't save her, the judges chose to eliminate her over Ariana Crowder for some reason. Among the first boots the show has had, she's one of the strongest so it's a shame we didn't get to see more of her. It's also a shame that season required us sending home someone from both Stage and Street every week since tWitch the producers had a much stronger Team Street cast, but I digress.
