JT Church

IPB Image

JT Church is another kids from the Next Generation version show. JT was a jazz/broadway dancer who was picked by All Stars Robert Roldan to move to the live shows. JT lucked out in the competition as he received the single best piece of choreography during that season with the Mirror routine. Other than that routine his journey was pretty much the same as the other kids meaning that I didn't care about it. JT finished as the runner-up when he lost to fellow contestant Kida (who I almost cut but I figure he was better than JT). Some years after the show, JT served as a pro in the Junior season of DWTS where he danced with Sky Brown and they ended up winning. I guess his exposure on SYTYCD opened a lot of doors from him and I'm glad to see that he is doing great.

Faina Savich

IPB Image

Faina Savich is a ballroom dancer from the 3rd season of SYTYCD. Hmm I can’t remember how Faina was viewed pre-live shows, like if she was casted as fodder or as a middler. I don’t think she was casted as a frontrunner as I remember Lacey and Anya being the standout ballroom girls, soo maybe Faina was casted as a middler/fodder. Either way, she was partnered with Cedric Gardner and yikes that partnership was soo bad and such a mismatch. :fear: On Week 1, they danced a Hip-Hop to “Get it Shawty,” which was one of my jams back in 2007 - Cedric was good in that but Faina was bad and the clear weak link in that dance. Then on Week 2, she danced the Foxtrot to “You’re the Boss” with him where she was clearly much better than Cedric but even she couldn’t cover or mask his badness of that dance. They landed in the Bottom 3 and she was eliminated while he was saved. She was against Shauna and Jessie there too and I was fine with her going as I preferred the other two. I was never really a fan of Faina so this was a fine cut to make at this point.

As I said, Faina was good in her Foxtrot and clearly that was what i view as her better dance sooo here is the link for it.

WADI JONES

“He’s a real B-boy!” - Debbie Allen. Wadi was on Season 8, but I believe he also auditioned for an earlier season. Wadi was paired with legend Missy, and they danced two routines together on the show. The first was a Sean Cheesman Jazz that was pretty good. It was one of Sean’s routines where he throws in a million moves and the kitchen sink, and I think it was a good moment for Wadi, especially at the end when he did a bunch of parkour moves off the set. The second routine was a Jean-Marc cha cha, and I just remember the song being Kesha and Missy being in animal print. It wasn’t well received and they went home for it. The tragedy is that he went home during the show’s first and worst quadruple elimination along with Iveta, Missy, and Nick Young. If the judges had the guts to send people home during the previous week, who knows how things might have been different.

Since the show, Wadi has done stunt work for Marvel TV shows like Luke Cage, The Punisher, and Jessica Jones. Wadi now has a beautiful family with a son and daughter.

ROBERT TAYLOR, JR.

IPB Image

Have I cut him before in the prior rankdowns? Probably. Robert Taylor, Jr. is a hip-hop dancer from the eight season. He was partnered with the ridiculously WHOOOOOOO overrated Miranda Maleski and the two of them made it all the way to the top sixteen after not being eliminated in the first week like they should've been, and then robbing Nick, Iveta and Missy (and I guess Wadi too) the next week. Their three-week run consisted of a terrible jive, a mediocre hip-hop to one of my favourite rappers and WHOOOOOOO an absolutely abomination of a broadway routine. The fact that the judges didn't send them home after the first routine was a disgrace, especially coupled with the fact that we could've kept at least two of the aforementioned four around. Or they could've just eliminated Ryan Ramirez in WHOOOOOOO the second week like they should have. But since this write-up is supposed to be about Robert, I'll just say that I prefer him over Miranda because at least his solos didn't blend in with every other basic contemporary female solo. :*

SAVE: Jordan because she danced to Fleur East.

Woo man! I didn’t hate Miranda, but yeah the first couple weeks of season 8 were a mess. I honestly think if Mitchell hadn’t been injured that they would have cut Robert and Miranda. When they asked Mitchell and Robert to dance for their lives a second time, my bet is that they felt bad eliminating Mitchell because he didn’t get to perform and felt bad eliminating Robert because Mitchell didn’t perform, so they gave up.

That's always been my thought on it, too. I think Nigel basically said the same afterward. But Nick was my favourite that season so I wasn't happy at all. :haha:

I’m trying to think of something similar happened another time. They cut Bianca even though Noelle didn’t perform, but that was also during the weird non-voting portion of Season 6. Then they had injury disasters in Season 7. They could never figure out a good way to deal with injuries.

I think the method they used for Jessie and Mitchell was fine - they were automatically in danger and had to dance a solo to save themselves. The issue they had in S6 was that Noelle’s injury happened when there wasn’t a results show the next night and the judges were deciding all of the results, and Ashleigh’s injury happened when it was purely up to America’s vote. We could’ve watched dress rehearsal footage, but then that wouldn’t have been fair to Russell. :haha: It just sucks in the current format because there’s no separate results show, so they basically get a free pass to the next week and screw over my favourites. @Tucker

Marquis Cunningham (Season 4)

Marquis Cunningham is a Contemporary dancer from Season 4 and a really forgettable contestant. Marquis partnered with Susie for the competition and only survived two weeks before his elimination. Marquis and Susie danced a Waltz during the first week of the competition that managed to be surprisingly solid. The dance had some minor flubs, but overall was like a really solid Ballroom dance for the first week of the competition. During the second week of the competition, Marquis danced Salsa (choreographed by the trash human Alex Da Silva) with his Salsa-trained partner Susie. However, the routine sucked. Marquis looked really out of place during the routine and did not sell the sex appeal. This routine landed him in the bottom with Susie, but his generic Contemporary solo could not save him from elimination. Considering he landed in the bottom with two other Contemporary men, Marquis's solo did not do much in the way of standing out. I do remember Marquis having a sad story of having to fight to be kept in dance by his parents. Eleven years later, Marquis seems to be doing well and is still dancing!

I think Marquis would have benefited from waiting a year or two to be on the show. But I do remember being very surprised when he was eliminated because his solo seemed so impressive with all the tricks to my then-untrained eye. I think they were just hesitant to switch up partnerships yet, so they just cut Susie and Marquis together.

Darion Flores

Here we are. Sorry Andrew you never officially asked for a extension so I am doing this cut for my IDF Sola who asked someone to save Susie. Now obviously I nominated him so this cut is not hard to do. I wish all of my nominations could be cut but alas. I mean sorry this guy only lasted one week and was eliminated top 20 so I am not sure he is a big loss anyway so I am hoping Andrew doesn't care about this. He danced with Lilly I think? One dance in season 12 before they were both cut. now he is cut from this game
