1. Yaya DaCosta
Yes I admitted that Elyse is my all-time favorite ANTM contestant when she was eliminated, but I’m actually not 100% sure about that lmao. I go back and forth between Yaya and Elyse all the time. One day it’s Elyse and the next it’s Yaya. Yaya is a woke villain which is my favorite kind of villain. I guess I have a theme with Yaya and Elyse as my top two. Intelligent, but condescending bitches. I just love them (maybe I like to believe I’m one of them too ). I’m sure living with either of them is an absolute headache. But like……when are they wrong? They’re really not. Yaya specifically. Tyra hates intelligence so Yaya was always doomed for failure. Yaya is smarter than everyone in that cycle, she knows it, they know it, and Tyra knows it as much as she doesn’t want to admit it. I’m sure Yaya could have used a bit more nuisance a lot of times throughout the season, but the lack of nuisance is obviously why I love her. And sometimes, Yaya just needed to be honest and cut a bitch when they’re being a racist bitch to her (TRUST ME, we will get to the African hat in due time).
Yaya started off the competition at the top, both as a model and as a personality. The judges loved her, the viewers loved her, the other girls liked her it seems. Her first bathing suit picture is absolutely stunning and if every other picture of hers flopped after that, she would still deserve to make it overseas on the strength of that shot alone. Yaya was incapable of taking a bad picture. Even her energy drink picture which was supposed to be her token bad picture was still impressive. It could’ve been better, but it was far from bad.
Yaya’s intelligence was clear from the start. When Kelle was being lowkey racist (against herself lmao) Yaya educated her why it’s not a good idea to be comparing her nose to a pig’s snout. Yaya’s lack of nuance was pretty apparent immediately, and while Toccara showed compassion for Kelle, Yaya was more judgmental. But as per usual, Yaya was completely right and I’ve got no problem with Yaya judging Kelle for her asinine remarks. Yaya’s rather under the radar till she has her amazing breakout week at the final nine.
#BrownieGate is iconic for many reasons thanks to Ann & Cassie, but Yaya is the star of the show. Yaya breaking out her “Respeito” shirt for a nice family dinner to passive aggressively call out Ann & Eva is the epitome of Yaya. It is lowkey so rude, but Yaya’s completely in the right and her approach is just so damn hilarious. Yaya smugly telling everyone that there’s a severe lack of respect in the house causing Ann and Cassie to go off on each other. Then Yaya just sits back and watches the fireworks. It was so out of left field and it showed me that Yaya was someone to keep my eye on.
However, what I also noticed was the beginning of Yaya’s journey where the judges essentially punished her for succeeding. The judges told her she looked like a dancer too much in her poses so she held back for the energy drink photo shoot. Then the judges scolded her for not using her dance training to deliver a better photo. You can’t have it both ways judges! Tyra’s clearly mad that Yaya’s trained well in an art other than fashion and that she’s a better dancer than Tyra. Yaya is of course passive aggressive about the whole situation and #OverIt.
The beginning of the end for Yaya, her fan favorite status, and any modicum of love the judges have for Yaya comes at final seven when a racist ass guest judge comes for Yaya, Yaya stands up for herself, and Tyra sides with Rebecca the racist. Let’s backtrack a bit to casting. Yaya proudly stands in front of the judges explaining who she is and where she comes from. She is extremely proud of her culture and flatout says that she is representing a beauty that is black. So when Rebecca the Racist comes to Yaya’s house to and tells her she shouldn’t wear a dashiki and that she is essentially too African, Yaya is understandably offended. She stands up to Rebecca telling her she will not conform to Western beauty standards. Why can’t you wear a dashiki in a toothpaste commercial? And we’re supposed to be on Rebecca’s side? It obviously gets so much worse at panel. When the producers clearly want Yaya to wear that fake Kente cloth hat, but she won’t let her African pride be criticized again so she stays away from it. So the judges have to bring up that she’s not wearing it. Nigel tells her everyone pegged her as going for the “typical African hat”, Nole tells her she looks like she rode in on a giraffe, and then Rebecca the Racist tells her that “her intensity to prove her Africaness is overbearing”. Tyra looks at Rebecca like she’s gonna kill her……but then pretty much sides with her and I’m in shock. Yaya #drags these judges for their disgusting ignorance about why it would be offensive for her to wear the cheap Kente cloth hat as Janice rolls her eyes and Yaya pridefully explains that she doesn’t need to prove her Africaness to anyone because it is a natural and beautiful part of her. Yaya wanted to do this competition to represent herself and her culture so badly, but the judges are so offended that Yaya won’t conform to the Western beauty standards. They make her go as far as to apologize to the f*cking hat. It is one of the ugliest things this show has ever done, and it’s done a lot of ugly things. I feel so upset for Yaya because she is made to look like the villain here. This isn’t the show showing the ugly side of the modeling world with Yaya as the hero. Yaya is in the wrong in the show’s mind and they mock her for it.
Predictably, the rest of Yaya’s time on the show is messy. Some of it her fault, some of it not. Yaya spitting out the umeboshi isn’t the best look in the world, but sometimes you just can’t swallow something you don’t like. Yaya’s still only 21 despite how intelligent and worldly she is. The judges were waiting for Yaya to fail, they found their moment, and they pounced. Yaya was the most respectful of the Japanese culture the entire time overseas and she was mocked for it. As much as I loved Norelle’s trainwreck journey through Japan, Yaya’s attitude is more commendable and should be lauded as such.
Yaya is far from a perfect human being. I loved watching her sit on her pedestal above Eva & Ann at all times. I loved her winning every single challenge and never picking either of them as they seethed. None of these are amazing qualities, but nobody’s perfect in any way. I’ll tell you this much, if anyone in the world has earned the right to be arrogant it’s Yaya DaCosta. Look at her career now. Star actress, top model, and righteous black icon. We should all be a lot more like Yaya. She was doing all this in 2004! That’s amazing how woke she was so many years ago. Early seasons of ANTM were famous for being problematic, but Yaya was not. Yaya deserves my number one ranking and I hope to see a high placement from her. Such an amazing character with the perfect combination of always being right, but doing it in the most entertaining and messy way.

Afrolatina Queen. Multilingual goddess. Hater of umeboshi. Chocolate barbarella. THE MOST SUCCESSFUL ANTM ALUMNI. There are endless things I could say about the greatest ANTM contestant to ever grace the television screen. No comparison. None in her league. Yaya defines the excellence of Cycle 3 with perfection. Yaya is the person that makes Cycle 3 of ANTM one of the greatest seasons of reality television in existence. An absolute goddess. Yaya is also one-half of the greatest top two in reality television history.

Proof is in the pudding people. Dramatic as hell. Took Tyrant + co. to task on a weekly basis. Not here for the bullshit. Schooled these women every single week. Killer portfolio. Insane post-show career that is still booming. I could write a novel about Yaya's time on ANTM, and if she wins, I will come back and add much more to this write-up.

But for now, I will keep it short and sweet. Yaya DaCosta is ANTM. <3

THIS GIRL IS A STAR. She is on Chicago med, has contestant booking, is a true actress who deserved better than this show anyway. I always forget she didn’t win her season and then I get sad again. She seems like a winner to be but she was runner up. Probably the best and most successful runner up of all ANTM history. I truly love her and she is a legend. She has made such a huge career post ANTM for herself and is one of the most successful people from this show. I am ranking her this high because she is a queen.

YAYY for Yaya making it to the Top 20 of this Rankdown. Pretty much the Top 5 models in my rankings are all amongst my Top 10 (or maybe Top 15) all-time favorite ANTM models of all-time so I am veryyy excited for all of my Top 5 making it to the end - with one of them being Yaya DaCosta, whom I am ranking at #5. Yaya was my 2nd favorite of Cycle 3, behind Eva, so of course I was loving and totally HERE for that Final 2!

Yaya was a very confident model, and hmm I do feel like some people may have found her cocky but I never really did. She had the right balance of confidence and amazing talent to back it up. Yaya was a dancer, alongside being a model, and I think for the most part, her dancing helped excelled her modeling. She was a really amazing model and she delivered and produced so many strong and fantastic photos. I’ll share my favorites, and will try not to post all of them.








My favorite photos of hers are the bathing suit shot, roller skating showcasing the bag, the spider shot (ugh how was this only 4th in the call out order?) and her Covergirl shot. I do think Yaya was quite impressive on Cycle 3, so I will show a video of her slaying it at the final runway and showcasing her photos throughout the season.

I also LOVED Yaya defending Cassie in the The Girl Who Mutilated the Precious Brownies episode - with all of her comments there and especially her with the Respeito shirt and her “Respect. Respeito is the issue” is a moment I really love and always stood out to me. <3

Since her time on ANTM, Yaya has proven herself to becoming one of the most successful ANTM models, where she has done a lot of modeling but also lots of acting in films and television. Some films that Yaya starred in includes: Take the Lead and Whitney, both of which I did watch and she did a fantastic job portraying Whitney Houston in Whitney. As for television, she had roles on All My Children, House, Chicago Fire and currently is one of the main stars of Chicago Med. I haven’t seen her on any of these TV shows (I guess except for her guest appearance Eve), but I am super happy for her success which she has worked hard on and totally deserves! Hoping and wishing all the best for her in these rankings!

Yaya - Deserved to win the season and even though she didn't she's definitely the biggest winner of this show. She stars in a network television show. She actually worked as a model.

I loved a lot about Yaya. She's an amazing model and such an interesting person. I felt like she brought a lot to the cycle, and although some of it could be seen as amusing, I think she had a lot of valid opinions and wisdom to share. :* I think there was some ~drama with her not being aware of how she could come off to other people, but I don't know. I love the "respeito" moment! But yeah, Yaya gave us some fantastic photos and definitely earned her spot in the Final 2. Her shot with the spider is absolutely gorgeous and my favorite But if only that spider wasn't there. :bye2: It did kind of bother me how the judges would want her to use her dancing skills in photos, but then also criticize her for it at times. I imagine that would be confusing. But she more than succeeded in the competition with great photos and winning like five challenges, which is super impressive. She's also been very successful in acting after ANTM, so that's great for her.

Yaya DaCosta (Cycle 3, 2nd Place)

Yaya is definitely one of the show’s most interesting characters. She was intelligent and eloquent yet condescending and sometimes immature. While this description also fits contestants like Elyse, Elyse knew how to act professionally when needed. For Yaya, this wasn’t always the case (see the umeboshi incident).

I do think the interesting thing with Yaya was her dynamic with the panel. She was often pushed to “let go,” and this critique was usually accompanied by some racist undertones. Even though ANTM was hosted by Tyra, a woman of color, there have definitely been victims of racism on ANTM, the offenders often being judges or Tyra herself. In moments like this where there was either overt or subtle racism, I could sympathize with Yaya.

In terms of her body of work, Yaya was super strong at the beginning (her first four pictures and her Spider picture are all fantastic), but she declined over time. Once the cast went to Japan, she never really regained her footing and probably should have placed 3rd behind Eva and Amanda.

Overall, there’s no denying that Yaya is beautiful, talented, and intelligent. I just feel more connected to the others I’ve placed above her.

As much as I love Danielle, Joanie should have won Cycle 6 - easily one of my favourite Final 2 of all time. Anyway, our favourite preacher daughter managed to leave an everlasting impact on America's Next Top Model due to her amazing portfolio - I know some people find her boring and will probably tank her score for that reason, I absolutely love her portfolio espacieally when towards the end of the competition;
She was on her way to win the entire thing but unfortunately, Danielle managed to steal the win which we all knew would happen.

Earlier, I mentioned how her portfolio is outstanding so let's take a look a closer look at her portfolio: She nailed the bald covered in Swarovski Crystals, she was a standount in the falling princess shoot, and she impressed during the housewives photoshoot. After a lackluster performance in the covergirl commercial, Joanie came to slay - she slayed the krumping photoshoot but she slayed the dolls shoot even more; Her ventroloquist picture is iconic. And that black & white beauty shots? Even more iconic - one of my favourite of hers. She ended the competition with 3 stunning photos.

The victory should easily have been hers, and she should be a contender to win this whole thing but will not be surprise if some people try to stop it.

Joanie - Joanie is my favorite model ever on the show. Her portfolio is flawless. No other model came close to her that season, not even Danielle or Jade. I do love Danielle too, but I much prefer Joanie. In ANTM realm, Joanie is like a Kayla to me, while Danielle is like Jeanine. Both amazing models but while most people prefer Jeanine and Danielle, I prefer the other two. Anyways, I know she won't win or anything seems she wasn't that close to the drama happening that season and that's apparently a requisite to place high in this rankdown but I'm glad that at least one of my top 5 girls made it to the end and what better than my actually #1. Iconics pictures: All of them!!!!!! Especially the elephant, mermaid on a net, swimsuit, beauty, puppet, krump, bald mannequin, housewife, ice princess.. lol I listed them all.. What a queen!!!! your faves could never!!!!!

04. Joanie Dodds (Cycle 6)

Joanie Dodds - pure beast. There has never been an ANTM contestant as consistently amazing as Joanie. Ever. Before or after. Joanie is single-handedly the strongest competitor in ANTM history. That simple fact alone rightfully earns her a spot as a finalist and hopefully a fantastic final ranking! If not for the inevitably low ranking Alex will give her, I think Joanie might have snatched the win.

I know I spent most of this Rankdown criticizing people for caring too much about portfolios only, and I stand by that statement. However, Joanie became an instant favorite of mine nearly 14 years ago because of how incredibly fantastic she was as a model. Joanie honestly swept the competition. Pretty much every single photograph of hers is unique, compelling, strong, and iconic. Future careers photo? Saucy. Krumping shoes photo? ICONIC. Marionette photo? Spot on. Crying photo? Dramatic and theatrical. Mermaid photo? Sexy and ad-worthy. Elephant photo? Genius and one of the best photos in ANTM history. Swimsuit photo? Stunning. CoverGirl photo and commercial? Exquisite, divine, sophisticated. Joanie is the true definition of a chameleon, and her performance throughout the entire competition is so spotless and perfect.

Joanie even did an incredible job with the challenges! Who can forget her nearly perfect runway walk while wearing the heels from hell? Or her breathtaking Thai dance performance? There simply has never been a more stellar contestant on the show, and that is really what initially attracted me to Joanie so strongly. But what kept me was her endearing personality. <3

Joanie really had such a sweet and dorky personality imo. Except when Sara copied her poses on the elephant. That brought out the huge bitch residing in Joanie.

The daughter of a preacher from humble beginnings that performed during amateur nights at the local strip clubs and worked as a cage dancer, Joanie was just really dorky, funny, and sweet. I cannot describe how much I enjoy her beautiful friendship with Danielle, which really reached its peak awesomeness during the torturous trip to the dentist. Watching Joanie struggle through two days of intensive surgery and reconstruction is such a touching storyline, as is watching her struggle for the remainder of the competition to smile and feel confident in expressing her joy because of her lifelong dental issues.

One-half of the most epic top two in the history of ANTM, Joanie made me a lifelong fan through her immense successes on the show and her sheer drive to win for herself and her family. Joanie truly had a passion for modeling, and watching her excel only to lose was such a heartbreaking experience for my younger self. But she lost to Danielle, and there is no shame in that. There is also no shame in being widely considered the strongest contestant ever to appear on the show, and losing the competition or this Rankdown will not take that away from her. Joanie's legacy stands strong all these years later, and the strength of her legacy keeps her one of my sentimental all-time faves. I hope she ranks highly, it's what she deserves. <3

Yayy I love Joanie Dodds and she’s one of my all-time favorite models on ANTM, so much so that I am giving her the #4 spot. Cycle 6 was an amazing and memorable cycle and certainly one of the best cycles out there, which Joanie did contribute some of that greatness too. Its true that Joanie may not have had the big standout personalities like Jade, Danielle, Furonda, etc, but I personally loved her personality and found her to be really cute/likable. And she is also very beautiful too.

Joanie was always a strong model that stood out throughout the season, and she’s one of the few moles that never landed in the Bottom 2. Here’s some of my favorite photos of hers:










Okayy so I’ll admit that Joanie’s first few weeks were her weakest and she wasn’t a huge standout but everything from her Housewife shot onwards was freaking great to amazing… she was legit killing it. Joanie would have been a very deserving winner but I love Danielle tooo much so I am glad that Joanie did make it to the Final 2.

I love her and not Jade as much as everyone else so here we are. SHE IS A FANTASTIC MODEL. She deservers her placement. She is a part of the strongest top 2 in ANTM History. She is apart of the BEST season of ANTM, She is one of the best at giving us entertaining voice overs. She took amazing pictures. I am actually offended she was nominated as much as she was because she is a legend in her own right. She often is overlooked but she is an amazing model who gets a high ranking because everyone else is going to tank her to make Dani strong.

Joanie Dodds (Cycle 6, 2nd Place)

Joanie is without a doubt one of the most talented contestants ever. She took fantastic pictures consistently and never took one I’d consider bad. Among her best pictures for me are her Future Careers, Crying Beauty, Dolls, and Elephant. I’d say that portfolio-wise, she was probably a couple of notches better than Danielle. However, I still agree with Joanie finishing as runner-up since Danielle “bested” her in runway, personality, and in-person presence.

Joanie as a character was fun and sometimes snarky, and she offered a more low-key humor to the cycle as opposed to Jade’s and Furonda’s more over the top humor. I wouldn’t say Joanie was a super memorable character, but she definitely helped elevate the cycle to where it was.

Overall, I like Joanie a lot and think she was a valuable part of cycle 6. While she might not have been the most memorable character, I don’t think she needed to be. She is still awesome in her own right.

Joanie is an incredible model. I feel like something about her personally didn't connect with me, so I was never too invested in her, despite loving a lot of her photos. It's shocking to me that Tyra didn't even originally want Joanie in the Top 25 that cycle, but maybe she improved a lot. Twiggy didn't even think she was a model at first either! She proved them wrong by getting all the way to runner-up. Her visit to the dentist for teeth surgery was particularly memorable on this season, and it's nice she got to have her teeth fixed up, since she always wanted to do that but didn't have the money. Joanie delivered consistently all season, regardless of her teeth. I especially love the following photos: stay-at-home mom, Krumping, Ventriloquist, black and white beauty shot, and the one on the elephant. They're all amazing.

20. Joanie Dodds
It’s no secret I’ve been targeting Joanie for a bit now. I swear I don’t dislike Joanie at all! In fact I really like her! I like everyone in this top 20. However I saw her as a big threat and I do have some issues with her.
First of all as a model, I think Joanie is one of the strongest in ANTM history. She is extremely photogenic and doesn’t have a bad photo in the bunch. Well I’m not crazy about her Ice Princess or Falling Princess shoots lol whoops, but they’re not terrible. Everything else is just absolutely stunning. I was kind of intrigued about her early on, but not really stanning (I was all about Jade, Furonda, Nnenna, and Danielle obviously <3). At the commercial episode she started winning me over. “I luv coming to Los AngUHles, I love entertaining my furriends Covergirl gives me confidence…..to go out……and make it through the dayuhhh”. Iconic as they all are . She was also becoming THIRSTY for a FCO and I love those girls always. At the church runway show she thought she had it in the bag and was finally gonna be a winner….but then Jade slayed her of course . She becomes desperate at the krunking photoshoot and gets her FCO and I was #here for it!
Of course this leads us to Joanie in the dentist’s office. One of the most iconic moments in ANTM history. What Joanie got done in her mouth is expensive as f*ck and it’s nice seeing moments where Ty Ty actually cares about the girls. Of course it’s also painful as hell and requires lots of drugs so it gave us an iconic Joanie meltdown . “I’VE BEEN IN THE DENTIST’S OFFICE FOR 12 HOURS…LOOK AT MY TEETH!”

Joanie gets thorough the surgery with help from her bff Danielle and makes it overseas . Furonda, Jade, Danielle, and Nnenna continue to be iconic and I kinda get over Joanie. She bitches about how Jade’s not a good person and doesn’t deserve to be America’s Next Top Model. Let’s ask should be number one Elyse what I think of that:

Calm down sis, it’s not Jade’s fault she’s more entertaining than you. Joanie then sets her sights on Sara. Sara copies Joanie’s poses at the elephant photoshoot which is frankly the most interesting thing Sara has done all cycle. However, this upsets Joanie. As if Joanie’s not stealing poses and ideas from magazines and other models. You ain’t special sis :*. CONVENIENTLY after all that, Joanie decides Sara doesn’t ~deserve~ to be there anymore because she doesn’t ~want~ it. Uhh whocurr? It’s a reality show. Danielle basically tells Joanie to shut up as she bitches to her about Sara tho <3. Joanie makes it to the finals, but luckily the judges realize Danielle is better than her in every single way and gives her the win <3. Joanie wore on my last nerve overseas, but I’m kinda nit-picking I still like her! She’s a big threat and probably my least favorite left so I have no qualms ranking her last.

I feel confident me, Denise, and Wally gave Danielle the higher ranking. So in a worst case scenario where everyone else gave Joanie the higher ranking, Danielle still wins .
