02. Toy Story (1995)
Things Toy Story did in this rankdown? THAT. :wub:Toy Story 4 deserved to be here, though. #BlameWally

The original in the now quadrilogy, Toy Story was Pixar's first ever major length production and it truly was a game changer upon its release. The first completely generated animated film, this film ushered in a new wave of animation and cemented Pixar as as iconic company. I'm sure we all know the basic plot of Toy Story and all that, so I'm just going to say I hope this or the third one come out on top. :*

In 1995, our life changed for the better when we were introduced to Andy & his toys. And the movie in question is, of course, Toy Story which was produced Pixar & Disney film which starred Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Don Rickles to name a few; and the music was produced by Randy Newman. The movie was an immediate success where it's often considered to be one of the best animated films ever made - the movie is definitely up there for me hence why it received a high ranking on my end… Let’s go back in time to relive the magic of Toy Story - I recently rewatched all of the movies for this rankdown and I’m still in love with the movie as I was when I first saw it.

The movie starts by the introduction of Andy - essentially the lead character and the owner of the toys featured in the movie - and his toys become alive when there’s no human around. And the toys become a nervous wreck when they realize that Andy’s birthday is happening NOW - Andy’s mom threw him an early birthday before their big move. Should the toys be worried about getting replaced? Woody, the sheriff and leader of the toys, ensure there's nothing to worry about because no one is getting replaced because they’re always there when Andy needs them. However, the other toys don’t trust Woody when he says that because Woody is Andy’s favourite which means Woody would never be replaced or left behind.

IPB ImageIPB ImageIPB Image

As Andy is opening up his presents, Woody send the little green army men on a mission - to spy on the birthday party. As they are camouflage in a plant, they are transmitting all the information to the toys upstairs via walkie-talkie - now, that’s a throwback! Andy is done opening his presents where Andy did not get any toy to replace them - Woody told the crew that the mission was accomplished and there’s nothing to worry about; Slinky replies always make me laugh because he’s such a suck-up to Woody :haha:... But maybe Woody should worry because Andy’s mom brings out another present out of the closet - the army men rushing to provide information to the crew which they did not receive because Rex made the speaker dropped on the floor.

After receiving his new toy, Andy and his friends rush to his bedroom where Woody gets pushed off the bed. Woody & the crew soon meet the toy, Buzz Lightyear - Buzz is completely confused as he does not understand the concept that he is a toy. Buzz is under the impression that he landed on a strange planet where there’s no sign of intelligence until Woody shows up.

IPB Image

As the days & weeks goes by, Woody is slowing getting replaced by Buzz - this is quite the emotional realization. Andy plays with Buzz more often than he does with Woody, and Andy’s posters & bed sheets gets replaced with Buzz’s accessories. But now only is Buzz closer with Andy, he’s also getting closer with the other toys - Rex learning how to roar properly is always hilarious. All of this is starting to get to Woody whom start showing signs of jealousy - he’s not getting along with Buzz where they essentially get on each others’ nerves.

Now, Andy is going to Pizza Planet where his mom told him that he’s only allowed to bring one toy. Woody really wants to go so he comes up with a plan to make sure Buzz does not go with Andy. However, the said plan does not go according to plan and Buzz falls out of the window - everyone is worried because they’re under the impression that he is in Sid’s yard. Why would that be bad? Sid is terrible with his toys… Shortly after Buzz’s fall, the other toys finds out that Woody orchestrated the entire thing - all the other toys confronts him, beside Slinkey & Bo Peep. Luckily for Woody, the fight got cut short when Andy walked in to grab Buzz whom he was unable to find; Woody became the consolation choice.

Now with Andy, Woody gets a surprise visitor while they were at the gas station - Buzz surprises Woody which lead to them being left behind. Both toys are now lost - Woody frustrated because Buzz took everything that was important to him while Buzz accuses Woody of putting the galaxy in danger. Then Woody found a way to go back - a Planet Pizza truck; Once in the truck, Woody gets tossed around in the trunk while Buzz is comfortable in the truck - this scene makes me laugh since Woody thought he made the right decision :haha:.

IPB ImageIPB ImageIPB Image

The new amigos find their way at Pizza Planet - Buzz feels at home with the presence of a spaceship. But how will they make their way into Pizza Planet? They come up with the idea of using the take out cup & burger box - them making their way into the restaurant is hilarious :haha:. Once inside, Buzz is feeling at home while Woody noticed Andy & his family; he tried to get Buzz attention which did not work because Buzz found a spaceship where he makes his way inside. Once in the spaceship, he found himself surrounded by aliens which Buzz say “I am Buzz Lightyear. I come in peace”; Woody makes his way to Buzz until he sees Sid. Sid then makes his way to the machine where he grab an alien to then find Buzz Lightyear - he’s the chosen one, according to the Aliens because the claws are the master. Woody decided to hold onto Buzz - Sid is delighted because he got a double win.

Unfortunately for Buzz & Woody, they must deal with Sid from now one - Woody’s get terrified when he notices Sid’s operating one of his sisters’ dolls. Woody is even more convinced that they must get out of there, especially when he finds a bunch of creepy toys. Meanwhile, Andy is sad that he is unable to find Woody & Buzz - what if he don’t find them before they move out. But not only is Andy sad, Bo Peep & Slinky are also missing Woody; the worried look on everyone’s face also makes me sad :bye2:.

IPB ImageIPB ImageIPB Image

Back at Sid, Woody is experiencing the abuse when Sid is melting his forehead - luckily Sid got distracted, Woody rush and jump in a bowl of cereal to stop the melting :haha:. Finally, Buzz is on the same page & they must find a way to escape and return to Andy. During their mini-escape mission, Woody’s string gets stuck somewhere which lead to Woody saying something which wakes up Sid’s dog - Woody & Buzz must hide, quickly. Buzz runs into a room where he then notice a commercial which makes him realize that he is a toy - this really have an effect on him where Buzz seems to be depressed & gave up on the mission to return to Andy :bye2:.

Shortly after finding out that he was a toy, Buzz decides to embody what it means to be a toy - make kids happy. And he does exactly that with Sid’s sister when she was unable to find her Sally doll - Buzz becomes Ms. Nesbitt; the scene always makes me laugh especially when Woody rescues Buzz to bring him back to Sid’s room :haha:.

Anyway, back in Sid’s room, Woody has to come up with a plan to get out of there - he notices the other toys in Andy’s room where he tries to get their attention. Woody is begging for their attention and help - the majority of the crew is willing to help except Mr. Potato Head who does not want to help due to what Woody did to Buzz. Woody then ask Buzz for a hand where he literally throw his hand at him :haha:. Woody improvise by using the hand until it’s obvious that it was just the hand - everyone suddenly gives up on Woody, even Bo Peep & Slinky.

While all of this is happening, Woody was under the impression that the Sid’s toys were cannibals except they all mean well as they fixed Buzz’s arm for him. And Woody quickly realize that they, too, are afraid of Sid as they keep hiding from him… Once in his room, Sid has some fireworks equipment where he wants to put it on Woody except he decided to use it on Buzz as he always wanted to a space man into orbit. Sid’s mission comes up short when the storm kicked in - I loved the animation here, it was well done.

Across the street, Andy is still missing his toys - he’s incredibly sad & terrified that he will leave them behind. His mom convinces him that they will find them before they leave; all the toys are in the box where Bo Peep utters; “Woody if only you could see how much Andy misses you” which implicates that Woody is not replaceable in Andy’s eyes.

IPB ImageIPB ImageIPB Image

Back in Sid’s room, Woody is still trying to escape before Sid wakes up - he is begging Buzz to help him and how he is unable to do this without him. But Buzz is still not convinced that he should go back to Andy’s - he does not see any difference between Sid or Andy’s house as he is just an insignificant toy. In reply to those comments, Woody has the following words of wisdom for Buzz: ““Look, over there in that house is a kid who thinks you are the greatest, and it's not because you're a Space Ranger, pal, it's because you're a toy. You are his toy!”. Even those words were not enough to convince Buzz as he does not understand why Andy would want him; Woody replies “Why would Andy want you? Look at you! You're a Buzz Lightyear! Any other toy would give up his moving parts just to be you. You've got wings, you glow in the dark, you talk, your helmet does that... that whoosh thing. You're a cool toy. As a matter of fact, you're too cool. I mean - what chance does a toy like me have against a Buzz Lightyear action figure. All I can do is this [...] Why would Andy ever wanna play me me, when he's got you? I'm the one that should be strapped to that rocket.”. Buzz then looks under his boots and find that Andy’s name under it - this scene and the exchange between Buzz & Woody always warm up my heart.

As they were about to get out of the room to go into the moving, Sid wakes up which means that they must be silent toys for a while. Once Sid takes Buzz and go outside, Woody asks the other toys for their help as they need to rescue Buzz - “He’s my friend, the only one I got”; that line always gets to me :bye2:.

IPB ImageIPB ImageIPB Image

The other toys help Woody where they do so by breaking the rule - they become alive in front of Sid; Woody tells Sid that they can see everything and it is important to play nice with the toys. Sid is terrified and runs away which means that Buzz & Woody are free, except they must find Andy’s moving van.

They find their way to the van, however Buzz get stuck somehow so Woody goes for him because no toys gets left behind - he does so with the help of the remote control car as they must run away from Sid’s dogs; Andy’s toys are not understanding & they think that Woody is doing it again :haha:. When the other toys finally realize that Woody was telling the truth, Slinky goes to the rescue - while all of this is happening, Molly is seeing Woody & Buzz from the mirror while “Hakuna Matata” is playing.

IPB ImageIPB Image

During their adventure on the remote controlled car, Buzz & Woody must find a solution to light the rocket that is attached to Buzz’s back. As they were unable to use the matches, Woody quickly realize that Buzz’s helmet will light it which it did. Once the rocket was lit, it gives them speed & power until the rocket blew up. By blowing up, it meant that Buzz & Woody were flying except Buzz said that they were simply falling with class :haha:. And during this scene, we hear the 4 magical words ‘To Infinity & Beyond”. While they’re “flying”, Woody realize that they missed the truck to which Buzz replies “We’re not aiming for the truck”. Once they officially fell with class, they find themselves next to Andy who is beyond himself - the best part about this scene is Andy’s mom’s voice where she is so unenthused about Andy being reunited :haha:.

The movie ends with the toys living in the new house and waiting for Christmas to happen - Bo Peep & Woody kisses under the mistletoe (side note: I realized that there’s quite alot of non PG reference in these movies :haha:). Mr. Potato Head finally get his Ms. Potato Head. Then Buzz is super worried - Woody teases him as to why he should be worried because what can be worse than him? And they got their answer - a puppy!

So this movie played a huge part in my life - it had an impact on my love for Toy Story growing up, and even to this day. I’ve always loved the Toy Story trilogy, and every movie brings nostalgia back to my life when I rewatch them… I also went to Disney World, a year ago, and one of my highlights was Toy Story Land where everything was so detailed to make us feel like toys in Andy’s backyard. Anyway, the movie and the series is a favourite of mine - the first person will always be my favourite because it’s the one that started it all!

Toy Story - My childhood <33333. I pretty much grew up with this movie throughout the years and it was very important to me. I pretty much went through life changes as Andy was. Toy Story was one of the first movies I have ever seen and I just loved it from the start and still love it. It’s one of those few movies that works for both kids and adults. The humor never gets old and it’s genuinely one of the funniest Disney/Pixar movies ever created. It’s also very dark. I mean the more you think about the intricacies of the world, it’s incredibly terrifying. Specifically everything involving Sid and what he does to his sentient toys.

Toy Story (1995)

The very classic and iconic original film of Toy Story, I am choosing to rank it at #6. I only really remember watching the first two Toy Story films, and i don’t really know for sure if i prefer the first or the second film. Based on memory, I do want to say that i prefer the first film hence my higher ranking of it but I am sure a rewatch could change my mind. :haha: I expect it to rank fairly well in this Top 30.

Toy Story is the first feature film from Pixar, and the first entirely computer-animated feature film - which was released on November 1995 and has grossed $373.6 million. The film features voiceover work from: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Jim Varney, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Annie Potts, Erik von Detten and others. Toy Story is about various toys coming to life when humans and kids aren’t around and they live their true adventures. We are introduced to the main characters - Woody (cowboy doll) and Buzz Lightyear (astronaut action figure) - whom are very different and have different outlooks and are viewed as rivals but eventually get to know each other and become good friends. They get lost from their owner, Andy Davis,, and both have a mutual desire to get back and reunited with him.

Such a great classic film…. although I’d say a modern day classic compared to most of the other films here. I also remember having a Toy Story video game that I was into for awhile which I really liked. Ooh and I see it has an impressive 100% on Rotten Tomatoes which is so deserved. Here’s a trailer of Toy Story.

And some enjoyable songs I really enjoy such as “You’ve Got a Friend In Me” and “Strange Things.”

9. Toy Story

The fact all 3 toy stories are in this final ranking is a testament to its power. I will rank this highest because it’s the original. I think it’s my favorite but I love all four. I think Woody and Buzz are at there best in this film and it works great for out me. Although when I first saw this as I was a young kid and SO scared of that neighbor like nightmares lol. I can’t wait to introduce this series to my baby girl when Disney plus comes out in November. Overall, it’s a very strong serious with very lasting power in this rankdown and should be proud of its accomplishments in this rankdown.

Toy Story

IPB ImageIPB Image

Toy Story is definitely one of the biggest Disney movies. It was the first feature film by Pixar and made way for three sequels, which is amazing. And even more amazing that three of the four movies ranked in the Top 30 here. I'll be very surprised if the original is not the highest ranking one of them all, but we'll see. It is definitely the most nostalgic one for me, although hard to pick a favorite.

The movie revolves around a group of toys that belong to a child, Andy, who all come to life when humans are not around. Every birthday and Christmas, the toys are on lookout to see if Andy gets any new toys that threaten to take their place in his collection. This happens on his birthday when Andy receives Buzz Lightyear, who seems to replace the cowboy Woody as Andy's favorite. Woody is not thrilled with this, of course, and in an attempt to go on a car trip with Andy, ends up sending Buzz out the window. :fear: The toys trying to use a barrel of monkeys (that is way too short) to get Buzz is so cute and cracks me up. :haha: The adventure begins when Buzz finds his way into the family car where Woody is and they have to get back home, a task that is all the more difficult when they end up in the hands of Andy's neighbor, Sid. :shiver: He really is awful and his creepy toys were things out of my nightmares as a child. Sid's sister kidnapping Buzz for a tea party though still cracks me up. Mrs. Nesbitt! :lmao:

t_x_Baw_kAE

"Would you like some tea, Mrs. Nesbitt?" "What a lovely hat, Mrs. Nesbitt. It goes quite well with your head." :dead: Anyway, Sidi's scary toys turn out to be helpful and through a series of obstacles, Woody and Buzz get back where they belong as Andy's family moves to a new house. The part where Woody talks out loud to Sid is terrifying, but also amazing and hilarious at the same time. :haha:

IPB Image

This movie is a classic for sure, and also provided us with an amazing timeless song in "You've Got a Friend in Me." <3 I love the diversity of Andy's group of toys, but out of them all, I most love SLINK THE SLINKY DOG.

IPB Image

The unlikely duo of Woody and Buzz is iconic and what the series is most known for. They form a great and funny friendship that we can't help but love. The moment when they are traveling through the air to reach the family car at the end is so great. "This isn't flying. It's falling... with style." "To infinity and beyond!"

Toy Story

The movie that started it all for Pixar. The most beloved Pixar franchise imo. Even thought Incredibles 2 outgrossed all the Toy Story's but I didn't say everyone has taste. :* I love this film and I'm thankful for it because it changed the game for computer animation and has brought us so many great movies. I ranked this film outside of my top 10 because I don't think it's in my top 10 tbh and I wanted Toy Story 3 to beat it as it should. If it doesn't I blame nostalgia. The idea for this film is amazing though the fact the toys come to life when we leave? Amazing. This is one of the films I watched with my brothers when they were babies so this movie has a special place in my heart. It always will. Toy Story did that; 1, 2 and 3. 4 did not deserve, I don't care what you say Elliott. This movie is a strong contender to win so I would not be surprised if did. I should have ranked it #30 to ensure that doesn't happen. This a Disney Rankdown not Pixar Rankdown. :bleh: Moving On. Let's get into the write-up for the movie that started it all for Pixar. (!)

jx5i8LjH-xA

The opening scene to Toy Story where we are introduced to Andy and Woody. Wood is Andy's favorite toy.

Toy Story is a 1995 American computer-animated buddy comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The feature film directorial debut of John Lasseter and it was the first entirely computer-animated feature film as well as the first feature film from Pixar. The screenplay was written by Joss Whedon, Andrew Stanton, Joel Cohen, and Alec Sokolow from a story by Lasseter, Stanton, Pete Docter, and Joe Ranft. The film features music by Randy Newman, and was executive-produced by Steve Jobs and Edwin Catmull. It features the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Jim Varney, Annie Potts, R. Lee Ermey, John Morris, Laurie Metcalf, and Erik von Detten. The movie takes place in a world when toys come to life when humans are not around. The film focuses on the relationship between Woody, a cowboy toy and Andy's favorite toy and Buzz Lightyear, an astronaut action figure. It seems that Buzz is being replaced as Andy's favorite toy. Their relationship evolves from rivals competing for the affections of their owner Andy Davis to friends who work together to be reunited with him after being separated. I never knew Andy had a last name until today. Following the success of Pixar's 1988 short film Tin Toy, the company was approached by Disney to produce a computer-animated feature film and thus Toy Story was born.

The toys meet Buzz Lightyear. (!) Or as Woody called out Mr. "Lightbeer." :dead:

The movie opens with Andy and Woody playing. Woody is Andy's favorite toy. Today is Andy's birthday party and they are having it early because they are moving soon. Andy gets Molly ready because his friends will be here any minute and when Andy leaves the toys comes to life. Andy's toys are surprised when the party is a week early. We get introduced to what would become the most iconic characters in all of Pixar (besides Woody and Buzz): Bo Peep, Mr. Potato Head, Rex the dinosaur, Hamm the piggy bank and , RC, a remote controlled buggy and Slinky Dog. They toys always think they are going to be replaced (except Woody) around birthday and Christmas time. Woody calls a meeting to make sure everyone has a moving buddy and and to inform them the party has been moved up a week early aka today. Woody is the leader of the group sends out army men, led by Sarge, to spy on the party to easy the worries of the other toys. The toys are relieved when the party appears to end without any of them being replaced by newer toys, but then Andy receives a surprise gift: a Buzz Lightyear action figure who thinks he is a real space ranger who has crash landed on a strange planet. Other toys what were introduced but I didn't mention were Etch A Sketch, Lenny, Mr. Spell, Robot, among others. AND THE ICONIC PIXAR BALL. I can't forget that one.

hlD443w5g5U

Andy gets knocked down from his spot on his bed when Andy places the new toy on his bad. The toys have already asked if he was being replaced. Woody introduces himself to Buzz who like I said thinks he is a real space ranger. Woody introduces himself and Buzz is caught off. guard he tries to shoot him with his laser. :dead: After they sort that mess out Buzz impresses the other toys with his various features and Andy begins to favor him, making Woody feel rejected compared to the newer, sleeker and more advanced Buzz. There is a montage showing Andy's going from Woody themed to Buzz themed. We are introduced to Sid Phillips who is voiced by Erik von Detten. I never knew that. Sid is Andy's next door neighbor who tortures toys for his own amusement. Two days before the move, Andy's mother tells him that he can only bring one toy to a family outing at the Pizza Planet restaurant and knowing Andy will choose Buzz he ask the Magic 8-Ball if there was any chance Andy will pick and the Magic 8-Ball says no, Woody attempts to trap Buzz behind a desk but ends up knocking him out of the window, This makes most of the other toys accuse Woody of "murdering" Buzz out of jealousy. RC confirms this story. Before the toys can exact revenge, Andy arrives and takes Woody after he would not find Buzz.

EXu6lQqhieA

The argument between Woody and Biuzz is one of the most memorable of the whole franchise.

The toys try to rescue Buzz but meanwhile Buzz sees Woody being taken by Andy to Pizza Planet by his mother. Buzz follows them. Buzz finds Woody and they get into a fight that leads outside of the car. Not knowing Woody is not in the car they drive off. They were at a gas station where all this happened. Woody is freaking out and Buzz is calling Star Command. :dead: They get into a argument where Woody tells Buzz he is delusional and he is "YOU ARE A TOY... YOU ARE A CHILD'S PLAY THING."; Buzz retorts with "You are a sad strange little man and you have my pity." He walks out but Wood knows he can't return without Buzz. Woody sees a Pizza Planet car and he makes Buzz go with him under false pretense that he can get him home. They manage to reach Pizza Planet by hitching a ride on a delivery truck. Buzz, still believing he is a real space ranger despite Woody's attempts to convince him otherwise. While attempting to get back to Andy, Buzz gets them stuck in a crane game full of alien toys, where they are retrieved by Andy's sadistic neighbor, Sid. THE INTRODUCTION OF THE ALIENS AND THE CLAW. Sid scores both toys with the claw along with another another alien and I n Sid's bedroom, the two watch in horror as he creates a mutant toy by decapitating his younger sister's (Hannah Phillips) doll and replacing the head with that of a pterodactyl.

u9y2tXnjP_E

The claw scene and Sid's room.

So Andy and Woody are close to Andy's home but they are stuck at Sid's house, Andy's neighbor. Sid destroys toys for fun. They see all the atrocities in Sid's room and Andy quickly tries to escape. Woody is greeted by al the toys Andy has mutilated and he is freaked out. Andy returns and now Andy realized now Woody is gone too. The other toys think he left out of guilt. In Sid's room Woody and Buzz are getting tortured. Sid leaves his room and he leaves the door open and the mutilated toys come out as well which scare Woody. They escape but now need to avoid Sid's dog. While they are trying to find a way out Buzz then sees a television commercial for a Buzz Lightyear action figure, and after failing in an attempt to fly out a window and breaking his arm in the process, realizes he is just a toy and becomes despondent. TO INFINITY AND BEYOND. :bye2:

The toy band together and reveal that they are to Sid defeating him in the process. :giggle:

Hannah find Buzz and we know see Woody escape from the closet. Hannah is having tea with Buzz who she has name Mrs. Nesbitt. Buzz has lost it and Woody snaps him out of it. He tells him he can't even fly out of window which gives Woody an idea. Woody attempts to signal Andy's toys for help, but they misunderstand his gesture and ignore him. That and Mr. Potato head does not trust him. Andy attempts to prove Buzz is alive and well but Buzz ia not helping so he uses his arm to show that Buzz is okay. Some of the toys don't believe him and when Woody accidently shows Buzz whole detached arm which makes the toys think he did kill Buzz so they don't help Woody and abandon him. Sid's mutant toys fix Buzz's arm. Andy is so sad about losing Buzz and Woody and is worried he won't find the before the move. Woody restores Buzz's confidence by telling him about the joy he can bring to Andy as a toy. The next morning, as Sid is about to launch Buzz on a firework rocket, Woody and the mutant toys come to life in front of Sid, terrifying him into agreeing to no longer mistreat toys. Woody bids the mutant toys farewell and escapes with Buzz only to see Andy and his family departing for their new home.

Woody and Buzz use RC and the rocket launcher to reach Andy in the car right next him in perfect movie fashion.

Woody and Buzz try to make it to the moving truck in time. Sid's dog Scud sees them and gives chase. Buzz saves Woody from Scud but is left behind, so Woody attempts to rescue him with Andy's remote-controlled car, RC. Thinking that Woody is "killing" RC as well the other toys attack and toss him off the truck. Buzz and RC retrieve Woody, and the other toys realize their mistake and begin to help, but RC's batteries become depleted before they can make it aboard. Realizing that Sid's rocket is still strapped to Buzz's back, Woody ignites it, hurtling them towards the truck. Woody throws RC into the truck before he and Buzz soar into the air, and Buzz opens his wings to free himself from the rocket just before it explodes, and glides with Woody to safety inside a box in Andy's mother's van right next to Andy. WE LOVE A HAPPY ENDING. <3

Christmas Day at Andy's new home. We hear the introduction of Mrs. Potato Head and Buster, the family's new dog.

The next scene is on Christmas Day at Andy'a new home. Woody and Buzz stage another reconnaissance mission to prepare for the new toy arrivals and one of the toys is Mrs. Potato Head to Mr. Potato Head's joy. As Woody jokingly asks what might be worse than Buzz, they discover Andy's new gift is a puppy, and the two share a worried smile. BUSTER.

Toy Story premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on November 19, 1995 and was released in North America on November 22, 1995. It was the highest-grossing film during its opening weekend and eventually earned over $373 million at the worldwide box office. It cost $30 million to make to it was a cash cow for Disney/Pixar. It was acclaimed by critics and audiences, who praised the technical innovation of the 3D animation, the wit and thematic sophistication of the screenplay, the musical score, and the voice performances of Hanks and Allen; it is considered by many to be one of the best animated films ever made. The film received a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Toy Story was released by Walt Disney Home Video on VHS and LaserDisc on October 29, 1996, with no bonus material. In the first week of this release, VHS rentals totaled $5.1 million, debuting Toy Story as the week's No. 1 video. Over 21.5 million VHS copies were sold the first year. On October 2, 2009, the film was re-released in Disney Digital 3-D. The film was also released with Toy Story 2 as a double feature for a two-week run[79] which was extended due to its success .In addition, the film's second sequel, Toy Story 3, was also released in the 3-D format. Toy Story became the highest-grossing domestic film of 1995.

IPB Image

The film received three Academy Award nominations, including Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Song for "You've Got a Friend in Me", and Best Original Score, as well as winning a Special Achievement Academy Award. In 2005, its first year of eligibility, it was inducted into the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The film won and was nominated for various other awards including a Kids' Choice Award, MTV Movie Award, and a British Academy Film Award, among others. John Lasseter received an Academy Special Achievement Award in 1996 "for the development and inspired application of techniques that have made possible the first feature-length computer-animated film." Additionally, the film was nominated for three Academy Awards, two to Randy Newman for Best Music—Original Song, for "You've Got a Friend in Me", and Best Music—Original Musical or Comedy Score. It was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay for the work by Joel Cohen, Pete Docter, John Lasseter, Joe Ranft, Alec Sokolow, Andrew Stanton and Joss Whedon, making Toy Story the first animated film to be nominated for an Academy Award writing category. Unlike other Pixar films this movie has a lot of songs I like. I'll list them.

"You've Got a Friend in Me" which is the theme song for the whole franchise.

4_F2Fl17RX8

"Strange Things" which explains Woody being replaced by Buzz.

C2Y7Iz-ePOg

"I Will Go Sailing No More" which is the song Buzz falls when he attempts to fly.

The duet version of "You've Got a Friend in Me" by Randy Newman andLyle Lovett.

In addition to home media and theatrical re-releases, Toy Story inspired material includes: toys, video games, theme park attractions, spin-offs, merchandise, and three sequels, Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 all of which also garnered massive commercial success and critical acclaim. A spin-off TV series called Buzz Lightyear of Star Command aired from 2000 to 2001, starting with a direct-to-video film, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins. I know I have trashed all the other video games related to Disney/Pixar movie but the one for Toy Story slapped and I loved playing it as a child. Toy Story had a large impact on the film industry with its innovative computer animation. After the film's debut, various industries were interested in the technology used for the film. Toy Story left an impact with its catchphrase "To Infinity and Beyond". Like I have mentioned before the movie spawned 3 sequels, software, merchandise, the film has multiple attractions at Disney Parks. My favorites are Toy Story Midway Mania! and Pizza Planet. The movie has had a massive impact on pop culture and I will always Loe this franchise "To Infinity and Beyond".

TS

So glad it won; very happy that one of my all time favourite won. And this is not to say TLK didn’t deserve the win because I love that movie, as well, but didn’t have same impact as TS.

Overall, great rankdown and happy with the overall results despite my #1 showing up earlier than I would have preferred.

Congratulations to Toy Story for winning the Disney Movies Rankdown!

As the rankings were coming in, it looked clear to me that Toy Story was going to win as nearly everyone ranked the film within their Top 10. However, not one person ranked Toy Story #1. It wasn't even #1 for any of the public rankings. :haha:

Thank you to all the rankers for being a part of this rankdown! This was a fun one to host, and I hope everyone enjoyed this game, too.

And thank you to the public, too!
