I guess I can go ahead and post #12 on the next page. I just ask that you all let me have the first three posts on the next page. There are over 20 images already, and I don’t have Victoria’s completed write-up yet. Last I heard from her, she did say it was okay if I post it today without her. So, please no commenting until I have the first three posts so I can edit in Victoria’s write-up later.

Beauty & The Beast receiving the top spot on my ranking shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone - I choose Lumiere as my character while I explained my love for it throughout the rankdown, notably in my write-up for the 2017’s remake. Not only is this movie a favourite of mine, it’s also one of the first Disney movie I remember seeing as a kid - I fell in love with it just like many kids & adults across the world.

In this movie, inspired by La Belle et la Bete by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, a prince is punished for his lack of compassion towards a beggar who ended up being the enchantress. The prince in question gets turned into a beast while his servants got turned into household objects. And the only way for the spell to be broken is if he learns to love & the feeling must be reciprocal; He must learn how to do so before the last petal on the enchanted rose falls, which has to be before his 21st year.

Fast forward to 10 years later, we are transported to a nearby village where we are introduced to Belle, the main character of the movie - Belle is a young woman who absolutely love to read, even if it means to read the same book over and over again. And just like that, Belle kicks off the movie with the first musical number of the movie, “
” - this is probably one of my first musical number of any Disney movie. One of my favourite part of the song is when Belle sings; “Oh, isn't this amazing? It's my favorite part because you'll see, Here's where she meets Prince Charming. But she won't discover that it's him till chapter three” as this is essentially foreshadowing what is about to happen to Belle’s life. Also when Belle sings “There must be more than this provincial life!” - sing it, Belle! We are also introduced to Gaston, the handsome & narcissistic villain of the movie who is in love with Belle; she has no intention to marry or date him - it makes me laugh the way they pronounce Gaston :haha:.

The story starts to take a turn for the worst when Maurice, Belle’s father, is going to the fair to showcase his new invention. He has to venture into a forest, known as the Enchanted Forest, until his horse ran away. Now stranded in the forest, he finds himself taking refuge in the castle - once inside, he is introduced to Lumiere & Cogsworth; Maurice is amazed by the object being able to talk. Lumiere leads Maurice to the fire to warm where he sits in the masters’ chair - the master known as the Beast isn’t too pleased with having a stranger in the house. It shouldn’t be no surprise to find that Maurice is not locked up, somewhere in the castle.

Back in the village, Gaston is still determined to get Belle to marry him; “Sorry Gaston, I just don’t deserve you” - as soon as Belle utter those words, she opens the door where Gaston lands in the swamp. Belle follows with a reprise of “Belle” where she sings how disgusted she would be to his wife and how she wants more than the provincial life.

IPB ImageIPB ImageIPB Image

Suddenly, Belle notices Phillip, the horse, which worries her as her dad is not there - Phillip brings her to the castle. Once in the castle, all the objects are in awe that there’s a girl in the castle - finally, there’s a girl that will break the spell; I love Chip’s reaction to this. Without being seen, Lumiere & Cogswroth leads her to Maurice where she then confront the Beast who tells her that Maurice is his prisoner. Worried for her dad’s health, Belle offers to take her dad’s place where the Beast is shocked that she would do such a thing. The Beast accepts her offer at one condition, she must stay there forever; she agrees where Maurice is finally free but Belle is unable to say goodbye to her dad :bye2:. Luckily for Belle, she will have a better life in the castle than her dad as Lumiere convinced the Beast to give Belle a proper room - she has access to the entire castle as long she stays away from the west wing. What’s in the West Wing? You must not go there!

We are then transported to a bar in the village where Gaston sings his anthem which is known as “Gaston” - the song is super addicting, and le Fou is everything in this scene. At the end of the number, Maurice walks in the bar asking them to rescue Belle - the townsfolk did not believe him because he’s known as “Crazy Old Maurice”. Gaston suddenly have a plan to win Belle’s heart!

qVdgaSuAjII

Back in the castle, Belle is being well taken care of by the object & starts to bound with them - I love when Mrs. Potts tells her that what she did was incredibly brave. She’s invited to dinner with the Beast - she’s late for dinner where the Beast is impatient where Lumiere and Mrs. Pott tell him that he must control his temper & be gentle because she could be the one to break the spell. He loses his temper when Belle does not show up for dinner where he confronts her - the objects try to tell him to be gentle which he does not listen. And now in his room, with the help of his magical mirror, the Beast quickly realize that he is a monster and she’ll never want to do anything with him.

Belle finds her way out of her room where she finds Lumiere & Cogsworth who brings her to the dining room. And this is where the ever so iconic, “Be Our Guest”, takes our place. I absolutely love this scene & the song - shouldn’t be a surprise as I love Lumiere, so much. And now, let’s watch the musical number:

flBrQ5GT-Kc

After figuring out that the castle was enchanted, Belle decides to go on a tour led by Cogsworth & Lumiere. While Clogsworth was giving the tour, she got distracted and decided to make her way to the West Wing. Once in the West Wing, she found the rose which did not please the Beast who urge her to get out. Listening to his command, Beast escape the castle in the blizzard - she’s surrounded by wolves. A certain someone decided to come and rescue her. Who could it be? Of course, it’s the Beast - he’s starting to have feelings for Belle ... Following rescuing Belle, the Beast was injured by the wolves - Belle started to nurse him which led to the start of their friendship, even though their bickering made it look like they were already a couple :haha:

IPB ImageIPB ImageIPB Image

In the village, Gaston is slowly turning into a villain where he bribes Monsieur D’arque to have Maurice locked up in the asylum - not hard to convince him as the village already views him as crazy. Gaston is under the impression that it’s the only way to marry Belle as she cares for her father, too much. And after that the townsfolk didn’t believe him, Maurice decides to go on his own to rescue Belle.

Back in the castle, the Beast & Belle’s relationship is quickly improving - the Beast shows Belle the library where she was in awe. However, one of my favourite scenes is when they are playing in the snow & the objects are starting to realizing that Beast & Belle might be in love & able to save them… Shortly after of all this, one of Disney’s iconic scenes takes place. What scene? Their date night where Belle is wearing her signature yellow dress. And their dance in the ballroom to “Beauty & The Beast”, performed by Mrs. Potts - if you have never seen the movie, you absolutely know what scene it is because it's truly iconic.

IPB ImageIPB ImageIPB Image

Belle shares with the Beast that she is missing his father, after he asks her if she’s happy here. He tells her that there’s a way - he shows her the magical mirror where she finds her dad in distress in the middle of the forest. Beast makes an act of sacrifice & love when he lets Belle free so she can find her dad - he gives her the mirror so there’s always a way to look back at their time together. And thanks to the Beast, she was able to rescue her dad and bring him back home. Once in their home, Chip escaped from Belle’s bag where he asks her - “Belle, why did you go away? Don’t you like us anymore?”, it broke my heart that the object thought she didn’t love them.

However, the director of the Asylum suddenly knock on their door to kidnap Maurice to bring him to the asylum. Belle asks them why? The townsfolk makes fun of him for saying there was a beast. Belle tells Gaston that he knows that her dad is not crazy where he tells her that the only way that she got to marry me if she wants to resolve the solution. Not willing to do so, Belle defend her dad by telling that there is a beast & used the mirror to show the Beast. Gaston then insult the Beast as a monster where Belle said to Gaston that he is a monster - she is a queen for standing up for her beliefs. However, Gaston ensure to lock up Belle & Maurice because both of them are “crazy” and he leads the townsfolk to the castle to kill the Beast.

IPB ImageIPB ImageIPB Image

The castle is now under attack where Lumiere got a solution - they pretend to be normal object & when the townsfolk walks in castle, they attack them! Meanwhile, Chip used Maurice’s invention to free Belle & Maurice - I always laugh when Chip is like “You guys gotta try this”. Anyway, the objects are slowly becoming the hero of the movie except that Gaston found his way to the West Wing. Once in the West Wing, Gaston attack the Beast where it seemed that the Beast gave up until he saw Belle rushing to the castle. About to throw Gaston from the roof, Beast spared him from his death which led to Gaston to throw another bow at Beast while he was having a moment with Belle.

IPB ImageIPB ImageIPB Image

In the end, Belle managed to save the Beast - she uttered “I love you” as he was taking his last bright. She managed to utter those 3 words before the last petal fell; The Beast came back to life while all the objects are back to their true selves - I always love the transformation of the object into their true selves. And of course, the credits features “Beauty & The Beast” performed by Peabo Bryson & my queen, Celine Dion!

pgYEJHJXFB4

Since its release in 1991, the movie proved to be an immense success for Disney - from the awards it has won and the adaption of the musical on stage where Susan Egan portrays Belle and performs “
", an underrated song. And we have to talk about its popularity at Disney World - while not having a specific attraction, Belle’s castle is quite the experience (e.g.: the decor, the detail, and the food is amazing, especially the grey stuff). And personally speaking, Beauty & The Beast remains a favourite of mine - the soundtrack composed by Alan Meken, its animation - Disney really had the animation down during the renaissance era, the story of the movie, and the characters! And on another note, I do not understand how one cannot love this movie so I am curious to see why many of you dislike it :)

Beauty and the Beast

IPB Image

I think it comes as no surprise the film I decided to rank at number one and that is Beauty and the Beast. I tried to play it cool at first but Wally was on to me since day one because I am pretty sure I have discussed that Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney film on this forum previously. This movie is not only my favorite Disney film of all-time but it's my second favorite movie of all-time. This movie is very near and dear to my heart. It's the first film I've ever received at the age of at two. The movie was a gift from my grandma who my only grandparent still alive so it means even more so now. I still have the original VHS in the case with my name inscribed inside the case. The VHS cassette has some wear and tear but it's still in my possession and it's in working condition. I've watched that movie so many times as a child, as a teenager and now as an adult. I never tire of that movie and I can recite the movie word for word. I thought I lost it once as a child and I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. My parents bought me a bootleg version of them film. You know what I'm talking about. VHS's had bootlegs too. :dead: I eventually found the original and cried tears of joy. This movie is the best Disney film ever in my opinion and nothing will ever top it in my eyes. The story is iconic, the characters are iconic, the meaning behind the film is iconic and the songs are iconic. I could go on and on about my love for this film but I won't. I really hope this movie can crack the top ten but I know it's not likely because Elliott took over for MJ. BRING BACK MJ. (!) That will always be my motto. Before I get the ball rolling on my write-up for the most beautiful Disney movie of all-time let me give you a disclaimer: IF YOU RANKED THIS MOVIE BELOW NUMBER TWENTY-FIVE THEN WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BE FRIENDS ANYMORE AND I HAVE TO CUT OFF ALL TIES AND COMMUNICATION FROM YOU. I can't be friends with someone who doesn't appreciate this masterpiece. I just can't. I've written over 100 words on this write-up and I haven't even started talking about the film. :dead: I won't prolong it any longer so I present to you my write-up for the tale as old at time; Beauty and the Beast.

Beauty and the Beast was released in 1991 and it's classified as an American animated musical romantic fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation. It was released by Walt Disney Pictures which is why it's included in this rankdown, duh. :giggle: Beauty and the Beast is the 30th Disney animated feature film and it's the third released during the Disney Renaissance era. The Disney Renaissance era is considered Disney's peak and I'm so glad this film took part in that period. The film is based on the French fairy tale of the same name by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont and ideas from the 1946 French film of the same name directed by Jean Cocteau. I've never read the French fairy tale or seen the 1946 French film, oops. Here is the synopsis on the film but I will go into further detail was we go on. The movie focuses on the relationship between the Beast who is a prince who was magically transformed into a monster. His servants suffered the same fate and were into household objects as punishment for Beast's arrogance, and Belle who is a young woman who is imprisoned by Beast in his castle to become a prince again. To break the curse Beast must learn to love Belle and earn her love in return before the last petal falls from an enchanted rose or else the Beast will be doomed to remain a monster forever. The film as an amazing voice cast including Paige O'Hara as Belle, Robby Benson as Beast, Richard White as Gaston, Jerry Orbach as Lumière, David Ogden Stiers as Cogsworth and the Narrator, Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Potts, Bradley Pierce as Chip, Rex Everhart as Maurice, Jesse Corti as Lefou, Jo Anne Worley as the Wardrobe, Hal Smith as Philippe

Mary Kay Bergman and Kath Soucie as the Bimbettes, Brian Cummings as the Stove, Alvin Epstein as the Bookseller, Tony Jay as Monsieur D'Arque, Alec Murphy as the Baker, Kimmy Robertson as the Featherduster and Frank Welker as Sultan. Yes, I did name every voice actor. What about it?

IPB Image

The film opens with the narrator giving a backstory of how the Prince became the beast. It all started when an old bigger woman came to his castle and asked for shelter in exchange for rose from the cold. The Prince was selfish, spoiled and unkind so he turned her away. She warned him not be deceived by appearances for beauty is for beauty is found on the inside. He dismissed her again and when he did so the woman's ugliness faded away to reveal a beautiful enchantress. The Prince tried to plead and apologize to her but she had seen there was no love in his heart. As punished she transformed him into a hideous beast and turned all her lived there into household items. She placed a spell upon the castle with a magic mirror as his only view into the outside world. The rose she offered him was actually an enchanted rose which would bloom until his twenty-first birthday. If he could learn to love another and end her love in return the spell would be broken; if not he would be doomed to be a beast forever. Years past by and the beast fell into despair and lost all hope because who could ever learn to love a beast. WHAT AN ICONIC OPENING. ONLY UP RIVALS IT. WHEN WILL YOUR FAVS? NEVER. :)

BONJOUR, BITCH!

After a setback Maurice get his invention to work and he is off to the fair with Philippe.

The film switches to Belle's home and the opening number commences. "Belle" is sung by Belle and the people of the town. The song explains Belle's longing for something more than the little town she is from. The town is reliable in the way that nothing exiting every happens and everything that happened today will happen tomorrow. She has aspirations of something grander but the town folk thing she is odd. A beauty but odd. She returns a book she borried from the bookstore owner. She borrows another book and the the owner realizes it's the same book she's ready over and over he gives it to her as a gift. She continues to sing throughout the town as one in a Disney animated movie does as the whole town gossips about her. They all agree; she is an odd beauty. We are introduced to Gaston, the villain of the film who has his sights on marrying Belle and Lefou, his goofy sidekick. He joins in on the song and goes on about how he is going to woo and marry Belle. Gaston is handsome, but vain to the core. The Bimbettes think Belle is crazy for not accepting Gaston's advances. Bells has a mind of her own though and sees past just beauty. The Bimbettes sounds like a girl group name. LOL. The song stops and Gaston takes away the book Belle is reading. He asks her how can she read the book if it doesn't have pages. Bells says "Some people use their imagination." and Gaston shudders at the idea of a woman having her own ideas and thinking. Belle calls him primevil but Gaston being dense takes it as a compliment. Gaston invites Belle to take a look at his hunting trophies but Belle declines stating she must get home to her father. Lefou beigins to mock Belle saying that crazy man needs all the help he can get. Lefou and Gaston abrupt into laughter while Belle doesn't find it funny one bit. She defends her father and calls him a genius. An explosion is head coming from her home and Gason and Lefou continue their laughing. Belle arrives to her house all smoky from the incident. Maurice, who is Belle's father is an inventor who is as his wits ends. He states he is going to give up on his latest invention. Belle reminds him he always says that and with some words of encouragement he has the wood chopper invention working for the fair tomorrow. The invention works and he is off to the fair with their horse, Philippe. Belle is left to tend to the house while he father is off in hopes of becoming a world famous inventor.

On their way to the fair Maurice and Philippe get lost. Maurice takes a shortcut and it goes all downhill from there. Phillippe is scared off by some bats which causes him to almost jump off a cliff. He backs up dropping Maurice off his back. Phillippe is seen fleeing the seen while some coyotes chase him. Maurice ends up being chases by coyotes himself., seeking comes across a castle. The castle of the Beast. He seeks refuge in the Beast's castle where he encounters Lumière, a talking candlestick and Cogsworth, a talking clock. Lumière is eager to help while Cogworth wants nothing to do with Maurice or helping him. Lumière helps him out anyway and are revealed to Maurice talking household items. Maurice is bewildered thinking it's an invention of some sort. Seeing his soaked from the rain, Lumière offers to warm him off by the fire on the masters chair. He is greeted by more household items such as Sultan, the castle's pet dog turned footstool, Mrs. Pott, the mother figure of the house who has taken the form of a teapot, Chip, a broke cup who is the son of Mrs. Potts and the Coat Rack, another of the servants in the castle. He is offered by tea and while is nested in a blanket on the masters chair by the fire the Beast storms into the picture. The fire goes out and the household items know they have messed up as they look scared for their lives. Lumière and Cogsworh try to explain but the Beast cannot be reasoned with. Getting violent the Beast thinks Maurice wanted to get a good look at the Beast while Maurice protests saying he was just looking for a place to stay. The Beast says he will give him a place to stay and takes him prisoner. :(

Belle offers to take the place of her father to save his life.

Back at Belle's home, we see Gaston preparing to propose to Belle. He has a band and people ready outside as if she is going to say yes. :dead: Bells denied his ideal of marriage; cooking, massaging his feet and bearing his children. Belle being the brilliant and smart girl she is denied his proposal and kicks hm out her house where he falls into a pit of mud. Gaston is PISSED and this makes him even more determined to make her his wife. A MAN I SAY, A MAN. Bells waits for Gaston to be gone while she talks to the animals. That seems to be a common theme with these princesses. She breakout out into reprise When Philippe returns without him, Belle ventures out in search for him and finds him locked in the castle dungeon. She finds her father and bargains with the Beast. He agrees to let her take Maurice's place as he and the other tenants see an opportunity for someone to actually break the spell and make them human again. Belle must remain a prisoner of the castle forever. She asks to see him in the light and when he reveals himself to be a monster she is taken back but still agree to swap places with her father. The Beast throws Maurice out without even giving Belle a chance to say goodbye to her father. The Beast offers her a room which bewilders Belle as she thought we stay in the dungeon tower. Prompted by Lumière, the Beast tells Belle the castle is her home now and she may go wherever she wants except the The West Wing, it's forbidden. He demands he joins her for dinner as she is left in her room alone.

"Fine! Then go ahead and STARVE!!!!!!! If she doesn't eat with me she doesn't eat at ALL."

Back at the tavern the patrons lift the spirits of Gaston and sing a song praising him for the God they think he his. This is one the most memorable songs of the movie and one of the best villain songs just because its so narcissistic and vain and no one realizes it. After Gaston and company finishing stroking Gaston's ego with "Gaston", Maurice storms in the bar and explains that Belle is being held captive by a Hugh hideous beast. The people shrug him off because is known as Crazy Old Maurice to them. The patrons kick him out go the bar but Gaston's wheels have been turning and he concocts a plan; by helping Maurice that will increase his chances of marrying Belle. Belle meets Mrs. Potts, Chips and Wardrobe and they all think what she did today was really brave. Wardrobe s trying to get Belle ready for dinner but Belle refuses. The Beast is seen consulting with Lumière and Mrs. Potss on how to woo Belle; one of the main points made was for him to control his temper. That all goes out the window when Cogsworth comes into the room and announced Belle is not coming to dinner. Beast storms to her room and BANGS ON IT demanding that she come to dinner now. Belle says she is not hungry. After asking politely she screams at from the other side of the door screaming "Fine! Then go ahead and STARVE!!!!!!! If she doesn't eat with me she doesn't eat at ALL." The Beasy storms off and Mrs. Potts, Lumière and Cogsworth are left worried about their future as being inanimate objects forever.

The most vivid number in the whole movie, "Be Our Guest". Lumière + company did THAT. Mrs. Potts deserves an individual shoutout. It's the most vibrant and energetic number in the whole movie. The visuals and song are amazing. Be our guest, indeed.

The Beast storms to The West Wing upset that Belle refused his offer to dinner. He asks to see the girl with the help of the mirror the enchantress gave him as his only view of the outside world. He sees Belle crying in her room talking to the Wardrobe. The Wardrobe says he isn't as bad as she think but Bells doesn't want anything to do with him. The Beast discouraged agrees and says he she will see never seem as anything other than a monster. The magic rose is show as is it loses a petal. Belle is browsing the castle when she seen by Lumière who is flirting with his girlfriend, the Featherduster. Mrs. Pott is put Chip to sleep as the Stove is complaining about the meal he cooked that went to waste; Belle walks in as they are discussing what occurred between Belle and the Beast. Belle is hungry so Mrs. Potts and Lumière are happy to oblige while Cogworth is against the idea but gives in with the advisement to keep it down. Lumière proceeds to do whole musical number entitled "Be Our Guest". :dead:

After dinner Belle says she wants to look around because it's the first time in an enchanted castle which Cogsworh and Lumière deny. Belle says she was able to figure it to on her own. They offer to give her a tour and while on the tour Belle escapes from Belle and Lumière even when tempted with a library. She finds her way into The West Wing where she finds the enchanted rose. It's so beautiful and majestic she can't help but remove it's glass protection and get a close look. As she does the Beast arrives and is irate. He screams at her and says she doesn't know what she could have done. HE IS BELLIGERENT AND WILD. Belle, being scared off leaves the castle. Promise or no promise she leaves with Philippe. She is attach by wolves trying to escape. She is close to her death when the Beast saves her life and fights off the wolves only to be injured in the process.

"Something There" describes the blossoming relationship between Belle and the Beast. STOCKHOLD SYNDROME AT ITS FINEST. (!)

This changes things between Beast and Belle as she helps him back to the castle. Meanwhile, we see Gaston and Lefou talking to Monsieur D'Arque. Monsieur D'Arque delightedly accepts his offer and the plan is set into motion. Maurice decides to help save Belle by himself if the town folk won't help him. He leaves to find her but shortly after Gaston and Lefou have come to take Maurice away. Maurice is already on route to save Belle though. a friendship develops between them and they become close and even get close to falling in love. Beast says he has never felt this way about anyone ever before and Belle is seeing the Beast in a different light. The Beas not having these feelings of love for anything anyone before wants to something special for Bell and he gives her the library. She loves it and there feelings for each other start changing; it's all explained via song in "Something There".

The most iconic film in the film and in all of Disney. <3 They share a dance in tbe ballroom where Belle is wearing that iconic yellow dress and the Beast is dressed up to the nines. The scene is set to Mrs. Potts singing "Beauty and the Beast". It's tear-inducing and Angela Lansbury is a legend and up there with Julie Andrews. Fight me.

Gaston did THAT even though I didn't want him to.

After sharing a romantic dance with the Beast he asks her if she is happy here with him at the castle. Belle answers yes but that she misses her father. Beast allows Belle to see her father through his magic mirror. Belle discovers her father collapsing in the woods in the harsh snow. The Beast seeing how sad this makes her releases Belle so she can save her father. The Beast allow her to take the mirror to remember him by. She thanks him and goes off with Philippe to save her father. The servants are happy with how good things are going as they are close to be human again. The Beast reveals to Cogsworth that he let her go and when question why he reples with "Because I love her". The servants are distraught but think the spell could be broken because he finally learned to love but Mrs. Potts reminds them that it's not enough as she must love him return. Belle find her father and take him home to nurse him to health. Lefou who was instructed to stay guard by their house until their return informs Gaston of their return. Belle and Maurice reunited explain how much they love each other and Maurice is surprised to know the Beast has changed and let her go. They discover a stowaway as Chip hid in her bag and asks why she left. Before she can answer there is a knock at the door. It's Monsieur D'Arque coming to take Maurice off to the asylum. The town is there in support of Maurice being locked up because his rantings about a monster. Belle pleads with Gaston to help her but he will only help her if he marries her. Belle refuses and she shows the town people Beast with the help of the mirror. Belle defends the Beast and when she calls Gaston a monster not the Beast he realizes she has feelings for him. Gaston deems her loony as well and Maurice and Belle are both locked up. "The Mob Song" which I didn't like as a child is a bop and it shows how people are fearful of things they don't understand. They go to the castle to kill the Beast. Locked way they are helpless to help the Beast. Chip comes up with a plan and uses Maurice's invention of the wood chopper to set them free.

The battle at the castle: Gaston and the people of the town versus the servants of the castle and the Beast. Place your bets.

mjgeSxMcojc

As Belle professes her love for the Beast before the last rose petals he is transformed back to a human in an epic scene that makes me cry every time.

Gaston, Lefou and the town people arrive at the castle and when the servants are aware of what's going on they want the Beast who in his dispart says let them come. The servants get ready to defend themselves and prepare for a fight. The town people enter the castle with brute force and are ambushed by the objects. Gaston is searching for the Beast during all of this. The fight at the castle between the objects and the town people is one of the funniest and entraining of all. They win but there is still Gaston versus the Beast to come. Gaston finds the Beast and him in his tower. The Beast is too heartbroken from Belle's departure to fight back. Belle returns which puts the fight back in him. After a big of back and forth the Beast defeats Gaston, but spares his life as he had him dancing from a balcony by his neck. The Beast shortly reunites with Belle and is in awe that she came back. Gaston ungratefully stabs the Beast with a knife and falls to his death after losing his footing from the Beast's thrashing. The Beast id hurt and dying. Belle and the Beast talk a a bit and the Beast says he's glad he got to see her one last time. The Beast ultimately succumbs to his injuries and dies as the last petal on the enchanted rose falls. Belle tearfully professes her love to the Beast and the spell is curse is broken. The Beast is restored to his human form along with all his servants and his castle. Belle is bewildered for a moment until she takes a look into his eyes and realizes it's the Beast. They kiss and swings her around and the scene switches to the ballroom where they are dancing. The movie ends with "Beauty and the Beast" playing in the background as the people at the castle watch. Ugh. I cry everytime I see the ending. No ending gets me like that. :'( She saw beyond his appearance and fell in love for the person on the inside. This movie is perfect in every way and I don't care what anyone says; original ranker or not. The films credit play the iconic "Beauty and the Beast" by Céline Dion and Peabo Bryson.

THIS SONG IS SO BEAUTIFUL WHEN WILL YOUR FAVES? <3

Beauty and the Beast was originally going to be adapted by Disney in the 1930s and 1950s but both times proved to be unsuccessful, THANK GOD. Following the success of The Little Mermaid the studio to try their hand as this tale again. Richard Purdum originally conceived the movie as a non-musical, but Disney chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg eventually dismissed Purdum's idea and ordered that the film be a musical similar to The Little Mermaid instead. Again, THANK GOD. The film was directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise with a screenplay by Linda Woolverton story first credited to Roger Allers. The lyricist Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken wrote the film's songs.. They were an iconic dup for Disney, however Howard Ashman, who additionally served as the film's executive producer, died of AIDS six months before the film's release. The film is dedicated to his memory. Beauty and the Beast premiered as an unfinished film at the New York Film Festival on September 29, 1991. It was followed by its theatrical release as a completed film at the El Capitan Theatre on November 13. The film grossed $425 million at the box office worldwide on a $25 million budget.

Beauty and the Beast won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy making it the FIRST animated film to ever win that category. It also became the first animated film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 64th Academy Awards. LET ME REPEAT THAT FOR YOU: IT WAS THE FIRST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM TO BE NOMINATED FOR BEST PICTURE. The first for Disney. Walt Disney would have been so proud. The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for its title song and received additional nominations for Best Original Song and Best Sound. This is something Chris will appreciate because in April of 1994, Beauty and the Beast became Disney's first animated film to be adapted into a Broadway musical. So many accolades and firsts. The vocal cast was impeccable. I can't even name a standout everyone was so perfect.

Beauty and the Beast was the second film, after The Rescuers Down Under, produced using CAPS (Computer Animation Production System), a digital scanning, ink, paint, and compositing system of software and hardware developed for Disney by Pixar. This software allowed for a wider range of colors, as well as soft shading and colored line effects for the characters, techniques lost when the Disney studio abandoned hand inking for xerography in the early 1960s. The technique was put to significant use during the "Beauty and the Beast" waltz sequence in which Belle and Beast dance through a computer-generated ballroom as the camera dollies around them in simulated 3D space. The filmmakers had originally decided against the use of computers in favor of traditional animation, but later, when the technology had improved, decided it could be used for the one scene in the ballroom. The success of the ballroom sequence helped convince studio executives to further invest in computer animation. Beauty and the Beast responsible for the rise of computer animation ala Pixar. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. :)

This music in this film is just as important as the film itself. The film soundtrack was met with critical and commerce acclaim. The music featured on the album won several awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, the Academy Award for Best Original Score and the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition Written for a Motion Picture or for Television. Its title track and only single, "Beauty and the Beast", achieved similar success, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, Academy Award for Best Original Song and Grammy Awards for both Best Song Written for Visual Media and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. The soundtrack was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Just as the film made history by becoming the first animated film to receive a Best Picture Oscar nomination, so too the soundtrack made history by becoming the first animated film soundtrack to receive an Album of the Year Grammy nomination (to date no other animated film soundtrack has been nominated in this category). The pop version of the title track "Beauty and the Beast" also received Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. In total, the soundtrack won 3 Grammys for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (Celine Dion & Peabo Bryson, Best Pop Instrumental Performance (Richard Kauffman), and Best Song Written for a Motion Picture. Alan Menken revealed that this was the first time one of his compositions had been rearranged into a pop version. So The Lion King, Mulan and Aladdin, you are welcome. Both the soundtrack and the Dion and Bryson version of the title track peaked at #9. The album has sold over 3 million copies in the US alone. The soundtrack was originally released on October 24, 1991 with 3 rereleases that followed.

The song "Human Again" which was cut from he original film which was releases on the Platinum Edition entitled Beauty and the Beast: Special Edition.

Following its original release the film had reissues of IMAX and 3D; both proved to be financially successful. The film has also had multiple home media releases following the original VHS release which include the "Platinum Edition", the "Diamond Edition and the "Signature Edition". Naturally I own all variations of the film. The Platinum Edition of the film has a special song that was deleted called "Human Again" which fits the film nicely. The film has a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes which imo should be bumped up by 6%. The film also holds a 95/100 on Metacritic which indicates the reviews as universal acclaim. Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film a rare "A+" grade. Animation legend Chuck Jones praised the film and 1992 he made a guest appearance on Later with Bob Costas where he said he loved them and think it should have won Best Picture at The Academy Awards. Ditto. "I think the animation on the beast is one of the greatest pieces of animation I've seen", he continued to say. In 2010, IGN named Beauty and the Beast as the greatest animated film of all time. Who am I to disagree with IGN? The film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Something what will never happen for The Emperor's New Groove. The success of the film spawned two direct-to-video follow-ups: Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas (1997) and Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World (1998), both of which take place in the timeline of the original and both of which were horrible. This was followed by a spin-off television series, Sing Me a Story with Belle. The film has made it's impact on pop culture with a Broadway play (which I have seen three times), merchandise galore and a multiple video games which I sure sucked as well. Sorry, Belle and Beast but I must state facts. In 2017 a ive-action adaptation of the film directed by Bill Condon was released starring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast. It became the highest grossing live-action Disney film of all-time grossing over a billion dollars. You could argue The Lion King beat it but we all know that movie was animaton so THE QUEEN STAYS QUEEN. :* In 2018, Belle made a cameo in Ralph Breaks The Internet along with he other Disney Princesses. This is my second favorite movie of all-time, my favorite Disney of all-time and the first film I ever owned. All I hope for is a spot for it in the Top 10. If it doesn't get there I'm grateful it made the finals because a certain Coco cutter has his eyes set on axing this masterpiece. I'll leave you with two different version of "Beauty and the Beast" by Jump 5, Jordan Sparks and Ariana Grande and John Legend's version from the 2017 live-action adaption.

I bopped to this as a teenager. #Oops

Jordin Sparks did an okay version of the song.

axySrE0Kg6k

Ariana Grande and John Legend failed to do that on their take on the classic.

This concludes my write-up for the tale as old as time, Beauty and the Beast. <3 A movie I have seen over 500 times just about and seen every version theaters except the unfinished version of course. :giggle: Belle, I love you as you showed that Disney Princesses could be smart and think for themselves. The first important Disney princess imo and my favorite Disney Princess ever.

VICTORIA BLESS YOU. I love this movie and feel like it would be a easy petty cut had it not been safe. I love this movie just not really the live action movie. Belle is one of my favorite princesses so of course I adore this movie. BE MY GUEST is legit one of my favorite songs ever. I actually picked it for a song game we had. I love the Beast too. I love the whole movie so I am going to rank it high also I feel like I owe Victoria for cutting Cheetah Girls when I know that was hard her so I am doing this for you girl.

Beauty and the Beast - Tbh never one of my favessssss, but objectively it is really good. A VERY strong cast of characters imo, possibly Disney’s best ensemble. A lot of fun and distinct personalities amongst all the side characters. They weren’t all fully-developed complex characters or anything, but they all had fun and distinct personalities. Character ranking:

Mrs. Potts - A queen. Clearly keeps the whole operation going despite the incompetence she’s surrounded by. Also her snagging the title song? Truly an icon.

Belle - As someone who doesn’t usually like the main princess character, Belle is BY FAR the best Disney princess ever. So sassy and independent . Not a personalityless dumbass

Lefou - Incompetend sidekicks

Maurice - Truly the father I aspire to be.

Gaston - Such an OTT hammy villain. Scary but not too scary. Ridiculous while still serving the story in a serious way. An icon.

Lumiere - I just like him.

Wardrobe - The fact that her name is wardrobe

Bimbettes - Almost killed feminism, but worth it cause they’re godesses.

Cogsworth - Sorry he’s boring y’all!

Chip - When Mrs. Potts disowns him>>>>>>

Beast - Abusive sh*t.

Another true Disney classic. Beauty and the Beast isn't one I'm super attached to, like some others, but it will always be nostalgic and legendary, for sure. I love the character of Belle, and how she's not your typical princess. She loves to read, which I could really relate to her on. "With a dreamy, far-off look, and her nose stuck in a book":giggle: She also has to continually turn down Gaston who is forever pursuing her, despite her having no interest and him not being worthy of her. I found Gaston quite funny in the live action version, but here he's just bad news.

The story takes place in France (which wins bonus points from me  ) and revolves around what happens to Belle after she is locked up in a castle with Beast - a selfish prince who was turned into a monster by an enchantress. Of course, he's not the only one who suffered, since his loyal servants became household objects. So rude. A spell was also cast on a rose that could only break if he was able to love and be loved in return before the last petal of the rose fell. Belle ends up in the castle after following the trail of her father when his horse returns without him. He was only looking for a place to stay after getting lost in the woods, and Beast had to go and lock him up. This scene makes me so sad when Belle finds him there and begs to take his place. :bye2: Beast accepts and the relationship between him and Belle unfolds. It certainly doesn't start off well, with him imprisoning her father and then her... not to mention, just being generally unpleasant. I love some of the other characters in the castle, especially the dog as the foot stool. Chip and Lumiere are standouts for me, and of course they all serve Belle the most epic dinner of all time!

Beast tries to heed everyone's advice to be more likeable because should Belle fall in love with him, the curse could be broken. That could still seem kind of selfish, but not when it comes to everyone else becoming human again, I guess. Beast gradually becomes more likeable, but it's after he saves Belle from wolves in the forest when they start to bond a lot more and she takes a liking to him. She confides in him that she misses her father, and he tells her there's a way for her to see him.... which is to look in a special mirror. Of course, the real way would be him letting her go... and he finally does when they see that her dad is in trouble and needs her. BE SELFLESS, BEAST. (!) Took him some time, but he got there. lol I love how Chip is a stowaway on Belle's way home! Thankfully her dad is okay, but he's accused of being crazy by Gaston and the rest of the townspeople. Belle shows them the Beast with the mirror and then they all set out to kill him. There's a huge fight that ends in Gaston being defeated and Beast nearly dying himself... before Belle confesses her love for him to break the curse and bring him back to life as a human!

Not a human there, but I like those gifs. :haha: Anyway, of course it's a happy ending and hopefully Beast has learned his lesson after all that. :dead: This movie shows that there is good in people you wouldn't expect, and that we should always be considerate of others.

Of course we know some of the amazing iconic songs from this movie, including "Be Our Guest" and the title track, "Beauty and the Beast (Tale as Old as Time)." "Gaston" is also really fun. :bobo: I also really love the live action movie starring Emma Watson. She made such a lovely Belle and I loved the whole visual and production of it.

Beauty and the Beast (1991)

Well…. I guess it’s time for Victoria and/or Chris to hurt me with this ranking of Beauty and the Beast, which I’m putting at #22. But hopefully they outrage more at Elliott whom I expect will rank this lower. And if not, LOL OOPS. :dead: But yeah I and everyone knows Beauty and the Beast is an iconic Disney film and I got lots of respect for it…. but it’s never been one of my huge favorites or a film I was crazy about. Although I can not recall if I seen the movie in its entirety. I think I did but that must have been a long time ago, or at least saw parts of it. But regardless I am sure it’s great and it 100% deserves its spot in the finals so I am genuinely glad it made it here. However, I do see it as a huge threat to win and I don’t want it to win as there’s other films I’d rather win, sooo yeah.

I do really like and love a lot of songs from Beauty and the Beast, namely “Beauty and the Beast” and “Be Our Guest,” which I will post below.

30. Beauty and the Beast (1991)

Ugh. By far one of my least favourite Disney movies ever. The only good thing come from it is music rankdown's robbed runner-up Céline Dion's fantastic performance of the title theme song. Otherwise? NHFT. Since Chris and Victoria were always wanting it safe, I'm sure they can talk about why they like it. :x
